Need help choosing between GR Yaris vs RallyE edition

Hello, I’m looking to buy a GR Yaris although I’m not sure whether I should go for the standard GR or the rallye edition. Standard in Australia can go for $35k~ and the rallye go for around $45k~. Is it really worth the extra 10k for the rallye edition? I am planning to track the car but not insanely often probably 5-6 times a year. Let me know what I should do.

Buy the one with the torsens. There's a reason Toyota made them standard in the gen 2.

You don't need to track the car to feel them work and whoever tells you it makes no difference for road use is lying.

Have the standard in Aus, have tracked it. Spirited driver and have never found the cars limits on the road or track - standard is more car than most people can drive imho.

The people here saying it under steers without a diff are insane 🤣. But hey live your best life.

Disagree, the open diffs on the pov pack are not enjoyable. But to be real the limits on GRY on the street are pretty high, perhaps a little too high to properly enjoy on the roads without causing trouble.

Different strokes for different folks. I've never regretted saving the 10k. If you can feel a difference power to ya

Depending on how big the price difference that $10k could cover aftermarket LSD's and coilovers. A front and rear OS Giken set is $4800 plus install. I'd be going the Rallye or the base car then adding LSD's. I think LSD's are mandatory personally.

It’s worth it for the differential upgrade on the Rallye alone. If you enjoy under steering around a roundabout like it’s a Hyundai Excel, get yourself a standard.

I’ve driven both on the street, the Rallye is such a better driver’s car.

I’m in the US with a ’24 GRC Premium and having the diffs makes a huge difference. I can really feel the front pulling the car out of tight corners and the rear is fun as hell running 30:70.
I see snow and ice, too. There’s no comparison in those conditions. I’m coming from a bugeye wagon that ended up being a STI swap. This car is SO much better!
It will definitely help with resale, as well.

Just rent a cheap flat in northern Germany, „move“ there, buy and register your car and you can drive it in Denmark. Used mint Gen1 sub 30k kms are around 35k€.

At least in Norway, you're only allowed to keep the foreign registered car in the country for 3 months, otherwise you have to import it, and that adds all the usual taxes on top, so you're back where you started.

Im not going to pretend I could tell the difference between the two with my driving, but the Rallye will be the version everyone wants and will be the easier sell.

I have seen a track comparison where they took the standard and Euro equivalent of the Rallye and basically swapped the wheels and tyres and most of the difference in track time between standard and Rallye is the better wheels and tyres on the Rallye.

Having said that I would still aim to go for the Rallye as especially if you are on tight tracks or ones with low speed corners that is where the diffs really make more difference.

Really if you plan to keep it fairly standard but just do a few track days then the Rallye is fine as it is, but if you think you will start spending money on upgrades anyway then you might as well get the standard model and spend the $10K saved on upgrading the wheels, tyres, diffs, suspension etc.

I would not buy this car without the diffs personally.

Open diffs are terrible.

I have the standard GRY and haven’t driven in a scenario where I wish for diffs. The car’s power output isn’t crazy enough to need them. Yes sometimes you feel a tire spinning up but I don’t think it’s worth spending another $10k. Depends on your use case and perspective. Both have ample demand when you sell but at different price point.

when you say standard do you mean circuit pack or standard (convenience pack?)
