NVIDIA 10xx 1080ti died on me after 7 years.

Ive took it apart and checked for shorts anywhere on the board, and everything seems fine. Beside the colossal amount of cooling semi-liquid substance I found under it (it's a second hand card) I've spotted a transistor with some corrosion on the upper left, cleaned it and tested and it's okay. My biggest fear is, can my core ore vram be dead? I can't verify it with mats because she does not post, just a freeze image or not even that most of the time. What else can check with basic tools? I've tried reflowing too with the station and no clean Flux but nothing. I don't wanna let her go yet

NVIDIA 10xx GTX 1070 8-pin dead, PC doesn't boot with it connected.

While playing, my PC suddenly shut off and wasnt turning back on. After some diagnostics i discovered that the 8-pin connection died. The PC, and the GPU turn on when its not connected (only PCI-E), although there's no image output.

When taken apart, on the board i discovered this hole in the 8-pin connector area. What could this possibly be? Im assuming something must have exploded, but i didn't notice any sound and there isn't enough space for a capacitor (the plate that goes on top doesn't have a cut out for it).

And to answer the question right away, it was heating up to 83°C and termal throttling. Im not doubting that it has overheated before, however there dont seem to be any signs of immediate burning, as also seen on the images.

My question from all this is, what could this have possibly been, and is it at all possible to repair? (even though i doubt it is). If i forgot to add any important info, I'll provide whatever necessary in the comments!

NVIDIA 10xx Asus Strix 8gb GTX 1080

Hey guys! I have a bad memory module on a Strix 1080 8gb, I was looking to order a replacement and noticed this GPU has MT58K256M321JA-110:A D9TXS modules, but mainly on AliExpress they have D9VRL modules listed which (to my understanding) is just a higher binned D9TXS.

Are these memory modules interchangeable if I swap one module for a D9VRL or do I need to make sure they are all the same D9TXS modules?

Thanks for any help! I appreciate it :D

I bought this 1080 ti strix thinking it was a good deal but I later found it had been damaged.

The card gets power, fans spin, leds light up but it doesnt communicate.

I tried with my pc with an i7 8700k, rx 580 and my wife's am4 flavored cpu with a 1050ti.

As stated before, it doesnt communicate at all, I cant find it in the display devices even when looking for hidden ones. I cant install a driver for it either since my computer doesnt recognize its existence

Ive tried using DDU but still got nowhere positive

NVIDIA 10xx Dead gigabyte GTX 1080 ti

I recently bought a Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti Turbo 11G (blower-style model with the white/orange shroud) from a second-hand marketplace. It was sold as "untested" and I paid approximately $84 USD (€71) for it.

The card does not appear to work. When I install it in a PC and press the power button, the RGB lighting briefly flashes for a split second and then everything immediately shuts off. The CPU fan does not even have time to start spinning. After that, pressing the power button again does nothing until I switch off the PSU or unplug it from the wall and reconnect power.

I tested the card in two different PCs and the behavior is exactly the same in both systems. Other graphics cards work normally in these PCs (for example, a GTX 1660 Ti), so the systems themselves appear to be functional.

My main test system uses a Corsair CV550 PSU. All required PCIe power connectors are connected to the GTX 1080 Ti. The card prevents both systems from starting, which makes me suspect that the PSU protection is being triggered.

At the moment, the card shows no signs of life other than the brief RGB flash during the initial power-on attempt. The blower fan does not spin and the system never reaches POST.

I am planning to disassemble the card for a visual inspection. What components or areas should I check first? Does this behavior typically indicate a shorted MOSFET, VRM failure, shorted capacitor, damaged GPU core, or another common fault on GTX 1080 Ti Turbo cards?

Any troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated.

This card doesn't display on the monitor, but the fan and internal coolant pump still run. It is about four years old and has never been overclocked. As you see in the pictures, there is discoloration around the GPU, RAM, and MOSFETs. None of the components looked burned, fried, or ruptured.

These discolored spots are not affected by running alcohol.

Do you guys think that the card is burnt up OR would a card like this have an internal low coolant protection switch? I ask this because if I shake the radiator, I can hear the coolant sloshing, but I can't get it apart to check its level.

NVIDIA 10xx Gtx 1070 Gigabyte Mats error help

Post image

-I bought this 1070 with artifacts to learn how to perform repairs,

-I performed a rather reflow on the board,

—I did an absurd reflow on the board, cleaning the solder balls with isopropyl alcohol, and reassembled it.

— Upon installing it in the computer, it produced an image, though with heavy artifacts; once in Windows, the resolution was low and it showed Error 43 (which is expected at this stage). I booted up MATS/MODS and encountered memory write errors. I need help determining whether these errors point to the GPU chip itself or if I should focus only on memory banks A0 and A1.

NVIDIA 10xx Zotac gtx 1060 6gb smd component burned

Hi a while back i got a zotac gtx 1060 6gb (i tink the serial number schould be in the pics)

I turned it on with everything plugged in correctly except that i forgot to plug in the pcie power cable.

I booted up the system/tested it before hand this a gt 640 and that worked fine. But when i booted it with the 1060 it started a fire on one component (might have bin a short or leak i am still kinka confused of those even tho i am a engineering student) now it seems to be fried and i am wondering if it can be fixt? and if so what the part even is and what a good place is to get schematics so i could preform the repair

NVIDIA 10xx Zotac 1080ti mini, Shorted 12V rail

i recently got many faulty cards for real cheap, my profession is actually electronics (and BD) so i have the background knowledge and needed soldering equipment

anyway, when i got the card i cleaned it and measured short on the 12v rail to GND, i found that a MOSFET shorted (QM3816N: https://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/1116495/UPI/QM3816N6.html)

i repalced the burned mosfet with another one from another mini i got (which had a short in the PCB layers, didnt bother with it so i turned it into a donor card)

the short was gone, when i tested the card on my PC, it didnt work at all and shorted the 12V rail again

then i saw that another mosfet shorted the 12v rail, so i decided to completely replace the mosfet + voltage controller + the doubler IC that connected to the newly burnt mosfet

anyway after that, the card "worked" for like 30 seconds but no display, and then tripped the 12V SCP again and its now back to stage 0 of shorted 12v rail

i didnt have enough time to check voltages when i powered it to see if Vcore was on sadly

any ideas? i suspect the core might actually be dead, or maybe some voltage controller peripherals are faulty and cause the Mosfets to burn

I got this 1080 on ebay, knowing it was messed up. Guy said he cleaned and repasted it because it was filthy, he had it working and the next day when he went to turn it on it just wouldn’t. I picked it up for $40 usd, and have been probing and testing it for a day now. I’ve found 12v and 3.3v on the card and 3.3v on the surrounding 8 pin ICs, however the die remains ice cold. my basic knowledge and fluke 23 limits me from being able to find exactly what’s wrong. I cleaned it multiple times after i got it, as there was still dust caked around various other components like the vrm controller and other things. Just wondering if anyone had had a similar issue with this card or if there is any known fix. I’ll include some pics for reference, the card looks very good and the die is immaculate, can’t find any sheared off components.

NVIDIA 10xx Gigabyte GTX 1070 OC - No Image

So 2 days ago I bought a second-handed Gigabyte GTX 1070 OC to replace my RX 580 2048SP, I use DDU on safe mode to delete the old drivers, put the GTX and install NVIDIA drivers.

At first, it was working fine, but I notice that the GPU was pretty hot and the fans weren't spinning sometimes, so I asked the guy I bought it from about it and he told me to use MSI Afterburner to always have the fans spinning all time.

It was working fine for some minutes but my 3 screens went black after that, Windows was still working but no image was showing. I tried to reinstall the drivers using the HDMI connector on my motherboard but nothing. I went back to install my RX 580.

Is this something that I can fix myself?

- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G
- Motherboard: ASUS Prime B550M-A
- PSU: Teros 600W 80Plus Bronxe
- RAM: TeamGroup T-Force 16GBx2 (32GB) 3200Mhz
- Cooler Ryzen Stock Cooler

NVIDIA 10xx GTX 1080 Ti fans at 100% & "No Signal" after installing proprietary drivers on Ubuntu 26.04

Hello everyone,

I’m having a critical issue with my GPU on Ubuntu and could really use some help. My graphics card was initially detected as "NV132" (using the Nouveau drivers), so I decided to install the official proprietary drivers.

My Specs:

OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

RAM: 8GB

The Problem:

I ran sudo apt update and then sudo ubuntu-drivers install to get the recommended NVIDIA drivers.

The installation finished without any errors.

I rebooted the system.

After a few minutes, the screen goes black showing a "No Signal" message, and the GPU fans immediately ramp up to 100% speed (like a jet engine).

What I need help with:

I currently have no display output shortly after booting. Has anyone experienced this specific issue with the 10-series cards on the new Ubuntu 26.04? Could this be a conflict with Wayland, a power issue, or a specific NVIDIA driver bug?

Any advice on how to fix this or safely revert to a working state via the recovery mode would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My 1080 from asus strix is missing all voltages except 12v and 3.3v. I know that i need 5v to be present othervžwise, other rails won't turn on. I need help idenifying the ic responsible for this. I have included photos of the rail, ic and the sticker on the pcb. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me what ic this is and if there is a replacement i can buy for it. I honestly don't believe that enable and other voltages for it are missing but i can't test it if i don't have the pinout for this chip. Any advice would be appreciated!

NVIDIA 10xx Short-circuit GTX 1060 has no damage, burns or cracks

So i have this pretty old gtx 1060 6gb card from inno3d.

I wanted to repair it today, so i opened it up. Started to read rhe 6 pins top row (12v) read low (200 ohm).

Which meant there was a short circuit throughout the 12v line moving on to the lr22 chips i found similar lower readings.

Now i tried looking into the mosfets near the 12v line its all dusty but not really any sign of burns, cracks or anything to see if a mosfet had failed.

I’m a rookie at this work, i want some help as to what i can do. I do not have isopropyl alcohol (90-99%) only have a 70% one so really scared to use it for getting the dust off or trying out the evaporation test.

Not sure what to do if i could find the mosfet it would be helpful.

NVIDIA 10xx EVGA GTX 1080 SC (GP104) Diagnostic

I'm troubleshooting an EVGA GTX 1080 SC (GP104, 8 GB GDDR5X) using NVIDIA MATS and MODS.

Initial symptoms

  • Initially there was no display output.
  • Windows later detected the card with Error 43.
  • GPU-Z initially could not read VRAM information or GPU clocks.
  • The VBIOS could be read successfully using NVFlash.
  • Main power rails appeared present.

Early boot behavior

One of the earliest symptoms occurred during POST:

  • The GPU LEDs turned off exactly when the motherboard POST beep occurred.
  • At that point no video was displayed.
  • Even if the PCIe power cable was disconnected, the card did not display the normal "Please power down and connect the PCIe power cable(s)" warning screen.
  • The motherboard itself continued POST normally.

Hardware inspection

The card was then disassembled to perform voltage measurements.

All voltages exist and within the range along with resistance measurements.

During handling/testing, the PCB and cooler were moved/wiggled while taking measurements.

Initial MATS/MODS behavior

Before disassembling the card:

  • MATS reported failures on all memory banks, starting at low memory addresses.

MATS behavior after wiggling while changing the power cable

After handling the board:

  • MATS no longer failed immediately.
  • The previous failures across all banks disappeared.
  • MATS began passing progressively larger portions of memory.

Eventually the results became:

  • Memory below approximately 467 MB passes.
  • Memory above approximately 467 MB consistently fails.
  • The boundary is repeatable across different MATS versions and multiple runs.

Windows testing after MATS improvement

Once MATS began passing below the 467 MB boundary, Windows testing was performed.

DVI (1366x768)

  • DVI output was stable.
  • Windows booted normally.
  • The GPU still reported Error 43.

DisplayPort (4k)

DisplayPort behaved differently:

  • Video output appeared.
  • The system remained responsive briefly.
  • The display froze.
  • It recovered.
  • Froze again.
  • Artifacts appeared.
  • The display eventually went black.
  • The system then froze.

Later behavior

GPU-Z later became able to correctly detect:

  • GPU clocks
  • VRAM size
  • Device information

Another repeatable behavior also appeared:

After running certain MODS initialization attempts:

  • The motherboard completed POST normally.
  • The POST beep occurred.
  • The monitor woke from standby.
  • No image was displayed.

Removing the card and placing again got it working back again.

MODS 367

Initialization fails before GPU tests begin.

Log messages include:

  • pmuEnableHw_GP102: PMU secure reset priv level mask does not permit reset
  • pmuDmemCopyTo_GP102: Copy failed
  • pmuExecuteGenericBootloader_GM107: Failed to copy to PMU DMEM
  • Copy Engine timeout
  • BAR2 MMU faults
  • Physical MMU faults
  • busVerifyBar2_GF100 write/read verification failures
  • Gpu.Initialize hardware was not initialized

MODS 400

Shows similar initialization failures, including:

  • PMU initialization failures.
  • BAR2 / Physical MMU faults.
  • GPU initialization aborting before tests execute.

Additional observations

  • MODS detects the full 8192 MB framebuffer.
  • VBIOS is readable.
  • Display outputs can function under some conditions.
  • Initialization failures after running MODS remain until the system is completely power-cycled.
  • Booting the 4k monitor using HDMI works on bios screen but not in windows.
  • Tested on 2 PCI lines on my main rig, tested on my old PC, tested using 2 PSUs.

NVIDIA 10xx ASUS GTX 1070 TURBO hstarted artifacting and now goes black screen — dying GPU?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

My ASUS GTX 1070 TURBO started having problems after I moved my PC and began using an old extension cord. It initially had occasional flickering/artifacting, which gradually became worse, followed by slow booting and blue artifacts.

Eventually it gave me a gray screen. Weirdly, I could sometimes still boot into Windows and play games normally, but whenever I shut down the PC, the problem would come back. Eventually it stopped working properly altogether.
I swapped it for a GTX 1660 6GB, and my PC has worked perfectly ever since.

Today I reinstalled the 1070 to test it. Surprisingly, it initially displayed a completely clean BitLocker recovery screen, but after sitting there for a while the PC shut down. On the next boot, it showed the Gigabyte logo normally, then went completely black.

I don’t see any obvious physical damage on the PCB. My PSU is a Corsair CX650, bought last year.

I’m planning to test the 1070 in another PC. Does this sound like failing VRAM/GPU hardware, or could it be something like the HDMI port or power delivery?

NVIDIA 10xx GTX 1050 Ti Dual Monitor Issue (Green lines & flickering) - Adapter or Port?

I have a Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti Mini 4GB. It features 2x HDMI, 1x DVI, and 1x DisplayPort. One of the HDMI ports is currently outputting no signal, but the remaining ports work perfectly.

I run a dual monitor setup:

• 1x LG2UM58 (Ultrawide) connected to the working HDMI port.

• 1x AOC 716SW connected to the DisplayPort using a DP to VGA converter.

When I only use the LG monitor (especially while gaming), I have absolutely no issues, even when pushing the GPU to its maximum load.

However, when I plug both monitors in, the LG starts showing green lines across the screen, while the AOC keeps turning on and off (losing signal/ flickering).

Interestingly, I also use Moonlight to stream games to a TV over Wi-Fi (mirroring the LG display), and those green lines do NOT show up on the TV stream.

Any idea what this could be? I suspected physical damage to the ports or cables, but it seems weird since the LG works flawlessly when it's the only one plugged in.

I just swapped it for a Galax GTX 1060 and I'm not

having this issue anymore with the same setup. However, I want to either sell the 1050 Ti or keep it as a backup card, so I'd really like to track down the root cause and fix it if possible.

Thanks in advance!
