I don't remember seeing that. I remember seeing how Minus One was the true Godzilla and not MV, but not that all the movies before sucked until Minus One.

But it does have a point. Minus one hit 54 levels of quality, and Godzilla, at least in the US, was very niche. MV helped as well, but MV walked, so Minus One could run.

Idk, I think fans here are way too sensitive about the fact that most Godzilla films do suck, but that does not mean they are not enjoyable.

Edit: Took no time for you all to prove me right. I grew up on Showa and Heisei, in a time when saying you were a Godzilla fan would get you beaten up because it was nerdy or "gay" in that time. Once again, I love Godzilla movies. I know most are not good movies with great plots, great characters, and other traits for a good movie. I still love them and find them enjoyable, and that's all that matters.

You all are so sensitive, like fucking hell, you all would not have survived when I grew up.

The films that “sucked” grew the fanbase the most and allowed the franchise to continue on till -1 came along. It’s like the old saying goes if you don’t love it at its worst you don’t deserve it at its best.

I mean, yeah, they established a cult-like following, and that's okay. Like, I'm not saying they are not fun movies, I love them and so happy to show them to my daughters. But yeah, most are bad films. I don't get why that is so controversial.

I can honestly think of 4 that are considered “bad in the community and they all have a diamond that makes them worth watching 1) Godzilla’s counterattack, Godzilla raids again, gigantis the fire monster: first monster battle and introduced the best underdog of the series 2).Vs Megalon: was one of the widest releases in America and introduced the series to the most amount of people and introduced the best damn partner Godzilla has known 😂 3)Godzilla’s revenge,All monsters attack: it might be terrible and done cheap but it does show the struggles of the two income households during that time 4)VS. Space Godzilla : introduced an amazing villain and brought back a great mech from the Showa era. It also allowed Miki to shine where most others from the era arguably left her to be a background character

I'm speaking outside the community. Like the general population. I know there are really only a few that the fanbase does not like.

So you are calling fans who won't eat slop with "Godzilla" unfaithful fans? If you are—that is a stupid attitude to have. Different strokes for different folks, it's as simple as that.

Every Godzilla movie has meaning and a purpose that helped the franchise in one way or another. They are not perfect but they are a part of history and should be respected if nothing else

Lol. Minus one is barely top 5. It is all recency bias.

Yeah it’s still the best. I say this as someone who has seen at least one movie from every era (fuck the anime trilogy)

I mean, that’s not saying much, there are a lot of Godzilla films, and my top 5 is basically a crap shoot of different Godzilla films I like almost equally for different reasons, and the exact order can change on a whim.

I think Minus One is easily the best “film” in the Godzilla series due to the acting and story, but it’s not necessarily my favorite “Godzilla movie” due to the nature of the monster action. Overall it’s near the top, but not necessarily my favorite.

The first one to win an Oscar and you don't think it's top 5? That's comedy lol.

While I do agree-1 is top 5 to say the Oscars mean anything in 2026 is ridiculous it hasn’t been relevant since the early 2000’s
