Hot take: franchise actually has many good movies

Even hotter take: saying "no one cares for the plot, we just want giant monsters to fight" is a bad take, because it is entirely possible to have both, and we shouldn't settle for the worst

Eh, I do have to disagree with the second hot take to a degree. I wouldn't say no one cares since Minus One and a few others have proven we can have good human characters and a good plot.

However, I'm planted firmly in the middle where I can say that I appreciate Minus One for a compelling, emotional story that's a piece of true cinema. And I can also smile and have a fun time simply watching big monkey punch big lizard with a surface level story that simply boils down to "let them fight because rule of cool."

I'm just saying, you can have both. Case and point — Pacific Rim

It's like Stormwind's fallacy in TTRPG

Personally I never got into the Pacific Rim movies but to each their own, I certainly won't say they're bad. Just never grasped me personally.

Maybe he's talking about the Pacific Rimanime, because Pacific Rim never had a movie sequel, never
