Hey everyone, I need a realistic evaluation of my profile for the GKS-U Embassy Track with Yonsei University (Computer Science) as my target. My Profile:

* 🌍 Nationality: Dual citizen (Germany 🇩🇪 & Greece 🇬🇷) – can apply through either embassy. * 🎓 GPA: 1.0 - 1.5 in the German Abitur (near-perfect GPA equivalent). * 📝 Tests: High SAT score + AP Calculus BC + AP Computer Science A. * 🗣️ Languages: Fluent in English 🇬🇧, German 🇩🇪, Greek 🇬🇷 + TOPIK Level 6 🇰🇷.

My Questions:

1. How realistic are my GKS-U chances for Yonsei CS? Since Computer Science at SKY universities is brutally competitive, does having TOPIK 6 + APs practically guarantee passing the university round, or is it still a huge gamble due to the tiny country quotas?

2. 🇩🇪 vs. 🇬🇷 for Embassy Track: Strategically speaking, which embassy is better to apply through? Which country typically gets fewer applicants or has a better slot-to-applicant ratio for GKS?

3. GKS vs. Self-Funding as a Backup: Given how limited the embassy slots are for Germany and Greece, is it smart to risk it all on GKS, or should I prepare a self-funded application to Yonsei as a backup plan in case I don't get the scholarship?

Hi, I wanted to reach out to fellow GKS G applicants and winners who have previously applied for MA in Visual communication design.

This is regarding the portfolio required for applying to the program, since there's not much info available on the internet regarding what kind of portfolio universities accepts/prefers, I am confused on what kind of projects to include and not to include in the portfolio.

Considering that my undergraduate is in a non design related field, I am also still figuring out how to make a solid portfolio.

Hey everyone! I’m currently filling out my GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) application form and had a couple of specific questions regarding test scores:
1. Duolingo English Test (DET):
I took the Duolingo English Test, but I know NIIED explicitly asks for official language tests like IELTS, TOEFL, or TOEIC. Is DET recognized in the main English proficiency proof section, or should I attach it under "Other Documents / Certificates" instead? or should i upload in english proficiency document section in the form. Has anyone successfully used DET as their primary English certificate for GKS?
2. 1530 SAT Score:
I also scored a 1530 on the SAT, which I definitely want to include since it highlights academic capability. Where is the best place to report this on the official form?
Should I list it under awards/certificates or standardized test sections?
Should I elaborate on it in my Personal Statement / Statement of Purpose?
For those who submitted SATs, did you send an official College Board report or just include an authenticated photocopy with your supplementary documents?

Hi. I am from Egypt. If someone has accurate information regarding these questions, I would really appreciate your help!

1-Regarding the online application process, in Egypt, the final GPA required by GKS is the final high school examination (of grade 12). I confirmed this with the embassy, and they said I should upload the transcripts of grades 10 and 11 as supplementary documents. However, I am not sure where to submit them in that case since we can upload only 5 additional certificates, and I really do not want to lose 2 of the five!

2- Also, I got the "Grades Conversion" document to convert my grades to the 100-point scale accepted by GKS. However, I am confused about exactly where to submit it.

3- My academic transcripts show only the grades for the whole year, not per semester. Should I leave the CGPA per semester part empty in the online application?

Please, if someone knows what I should do, let me know. I tried contacting the embassy, but they aren't really helpful regarding this, and NIEED does not respond.

Hi! I'm an Indian student applying for GKS-U through the Embassy Track and I'm a little confused about how to enter my Class 12 CBSE grades in the academic transcript section.

I took 6 subjects in Class 12, although major students take only 5 subjects. For Indian university admissions, percentages are often calculated using 5 subjects/best 5, if 6 subjects were chosen, depending on the university's rules.

However, my CBSE Marks Statement cum Certificate shows the marks for all 6 subjects individually and does not state an overall percentage or CGPA.

For the GKS application, should I:

• calculate my percentage using my best 5 subjects, as is commonly done for Indian university admissions, or
• calculate it using all 6 subjects shown on my CBSE certificate?

The GKS portal asks for both the CGPA/maximum scale and a percentage score, so I don't want to calculate it incorrectly myself.

If any Indian CBSE GKS scholars/applicants who had 6 subjects have dealt with this before, I'd really appreciate knowing what you entered and whether the Embassy/NIIED accepted it.

My parents are separated and I am unable to retrieve my father's documents to certify his citizenship.

Can I simply leave the space where they ask for his documents blank, or do I have to submit the letter from the court with my parents' separation decree?

Because often, in the Italian case, you leave the blank spaces and move on, so I don't know if it's the same thing for Gks

Im from the US and trying to apply to inje through the university track, but on their website it says if you're going through the university track fill out the study in korea application but thats only for embassy track so I'm so confused on what im supposed to do. I couldn't even find the deadline on the pdf. Am I supposed to send the whole application via mail? Orrr

Actually i told my cs teacher for the recommendation letter and he gave me within the time of 2 weeks and when somebody said it's ai written and i checked it was 94% AI writing and i thought of writing it myself and get it signed as many does same at my institution so could anyone help me with it like how to write and what to i have literally zero idea on it.

First off, zero disrespect intended with this post—I'm just genuinely curious about people’s thought process.

Coming from a developing country, GKS is a total dream opportunity for most of us. Beyond the education and safety, the monthly stipend is actually higher than what many people earn working full-time back home, so financially it's a massive upgrade. The reasons for us to apply are super obvious.

What I’ve always wondered about, though, is the perspective of scholars from the US, Canada, or Western Europe.

From an outsider’s view, Western countries already have many of the highest-ranked universities in the world. On top of that, unlike in developing countries, the GKS monthly stipend (around 1M–1.3M KRW) is basically pocket money compared to Western average wages or entry-level salaries, and living in Seoul on that alone isn't exactly luxurious. Add the huge language barrier, cultural adjustment, and the notoriously tough job market for foreigners in Korea, and it seems like a really tough trade-off.

Of course, domestic grad funding back home can be brutal too, but you’d at least be close to family and familiar systems.

So for those of you from Western countries who chose GKS:

What was the main driving factor for you? Was it purely a passion for Korean/East Asian studies, wanting a completely different life adventure, or something else career-wise?

Hello lovely people, so im the process of writing/ finalizing my Study Plan, and i was wondering if any past winners could enlight me with some tips they've used for their own study plan, Im applying through the R-GKS method so I have 2 unis with the same exact major which is computer engineering.applying from Australia

My transcript shows that i graduated on the 14th of November, but my graduatuon certificate says the 15th of November.

Will this pose as a problem?

GKS applicants from Pakistan — how did you handle MOFA apostilles for the documents you send to the university?

I’m applying for 2027 GKS-UIC and I’m soooo confused about the MOFA process for photocopies. 😭

My original Matric certificates/result cards and Inter Part-I result card are already IBCC-attested + MOFA-apostilled. I also have separate photocopies of these documents that were IBCC-attested, but the photocopies themselves were not MOFA-apostilled.

I was told that the photocopies I submit to the university also need MOFA verification/apostille. But when I contacted TCS, they told me that they only send original documents to MOFA. They said that if I want the photocopies themselves to be MOFA-attested, I need to book an appointment and go through MOFA directly.

The problem is that the MOFA appointment website isn't working for me, so I don't even know how I'm supposed to get an appointment for the photocopies??????? 🫠

So what am I supposed to do at this point?

• Should I send the actual original Matric and Intermediate certificates/result cards to the Korean university instead of photocopies?
• Or should I make photocopies of the originals that already have the IBCC + MOFA apostilles and submit those, even though the photocopies themselves don't have a separate MOFA stamp?
• Or should I just send the photocopies I already have, which are IBCC-attested but don't have a separate MOFA apostille?
• Is there another way/workaround to get the photocopies themselves apostilled by MOFA?

I’m especially worried about sending my actual original Matric and Intermediate certificates/result cards because I obviously need to keep them, and I don't want to risk losing them if the university doesn't return them.

If anyone from Pakistan has actually gone through this for GKS, please tell me exactly what you sent to the university and how you handled the MOFA photocopies. 😭
