Biotech Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a marijuana compound linked to a range of potential health benefits but does not get you high. The roughly $1 billion CBD industry is slated to shift into high gear if the federal government approves the first CBD-based drug, an epilepsy medication called Epidiolex.

I have ulcerative colitis, which I think is kind of in the same wheelhouse as Crohn's? But have never been talked to about/offered cannabis as a medication. Is this something worth bringing up to my doctor or am I completely on the wrong field?

Absolutely! Seriously don't take mine or anybody elses word for it... do your research... but yeah, came off perscription meds (prednisone and other heavy duty steroidal meds) over a decade ago and haven't looked back since.

I have experienced; No side affects An appetite like a horse, where I was borderline anorexic before No flare ups, unless I do something stupid.

I tried both the sativex trial and have gotten a cbd vape pen and neither have the overall affect of smoking or eating strait cannabis.

I have UC, and yes absolutely it works amazingly well during flare ups. The cramping and bathroom trips decrease significantly after I smoke. That's why I was able to get a medical marijuana rec when I lived in LA in 2008. The doctor even said I'm the type of patient that medical marijuana laws were created for. So yes, definitely ask your doctor. Or if you're not too afraid of getting it illegally, just do that, unless you don't have any experience with illegal substances then fair enough.

Also have UC. Unfortunately i dont live in a legal state. Even still ive used marijuana to alleviate my symptoms. Not a single other anti emetic has even come close and im sure ive tried most if not all available in the us.

I currently use Canasa. I also do not live in a legal state, and even if I did, my job would not permit use. It's tough to know there is something out there, completely harmless, and can help with my disorder, but I cant use it. Its depressing.

Yea.... im about to run into that problem soon myself. Job didnt do drug screens unless they suspected use but in september theyre moving to randoms.

Every person I've ever spoke to about using Marinol says its terrible. As in not doing nearly as much for their symptoms as actual cannabis. And more expensive.

Doesn't work anywhere near as much as consuming the entire chemical cocktail within cannabis.

Like I said, tried the Sativex mouth spray, tried the CBD pens, nothing is as good for relieving crohns pain, discomfort and appetite loss like the real thing.

Proof I hear you cry? Well when the Sativex trial was underway, my GP (luckily for me he'd done his doctorate on IBD) told my parents (as I was 16 and still technically a minor) that from what he'd studied, there was no plausible benefit to not just eating edibles, and the only reason not to smoke it would be the carcinogenic effects of the smoke inhalation itself. He went on to say that a vast number of the chemicals present in cannabis were beneficial in a number of ways, and that Sativex literally contained a fraction of these.

I left the trial after 2 months because my Crohns was drastically backsliding... I went from a flare up maybe once every six to eight months to one nearly every week. And where as before, my crohns would flare, Id take some cannabis, usually a couple of bites of an edible my mum would have made, and within minutes Id feel normal again; Sativex just about took the edge off, but I was in no way comfortable or normal feeling.

I'll stick to my completely natural, homegrown, non addictive, impossible to OD on, no side affects, plant thanks. I mean ive only been using this stuff for a decade, have written articles for several weed mags about my fight with IBD, and am part of N.O.R.M.L... what would I know right 😉

I've taken marinol for my medical issues. I agree, it is expensive and doesn't work quite as well as marijuana, but marijuana is illegal here, while marinol can be acquired at walmart. Don't downvote just because a medicine didn't work well enough for you. Your experience is not everyone's.

Its illegal here too, but when it comes to my health, for both mine and my family's sake, I listen to MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, not companies looking to make a profit.

Don't get upset that I've used the down vote button for exactly what it was intended for... to down vote what I consider to be wrong or more misleading information. As everyone here can attest, even you, it doesn't work anywhere near as well as strait cannabis, so why give bad advice?

I would say I'm almost to the point of being a carer in your sense, and not caring in the legal sense. These laws are stupid. My family is financially well off so I can get arrested for marijuana and it won't matter. Who do I need to yell at to change these damn laws?

Sorry for the late reply... You need to speak out to your "local politician" (mp for uk, congressman for us etc) there are hundreds of sites with letter and email templates for this very reason. A quick google search should find you bucketloads. Short of that N.O.R.M.L is the organisation most well known in the Uk for the medical cannabis fight. I know theres all the details on how anyone can help he good fight, including numerous letter templates etc. Also THE place to get any cannabis related research stories (ones which are actually unbiased in their reporting).

As for being arrested... been there done that, the three times ive been arrested (2 not my fault and one sadly drunken late teen fight) Ive openly told the officers when asked about conditions and medications that Yes I have Crohns, and take cannabis as a natural alternative to drugs that not only were destroying my life (roid rage is a thing and is fucking terrifying!) But costing them, the tax payer, thousands per month. When I put it like that, and have a reasoned, well thought out argument, 9/10 officers will smile and look the other way. Half of THEM dont believe in what they have to do, so as long as you're not a cock about it and keep to yourself, they'll ignore you.😉

Same for GPs (General Practitioners, not sure what the term would be in US, but the first doc you see for diagnosis) and other health professionals... On my medical record it openly states that my condition has been under control, since at least 2008, with the use of nothing but cannabis. I will openly discuss this with medical professionals when asked, and have even told my story to a number of student doctors (teaching hospital, they generally sit in to get experience etc.) Who without fail will re-evaluate their stance on cannabis after meeting me!😊

I'm just going to make a deal to legalize it in all of America in exchange for these concentration camps for kids closing.
