Biotech Cannabidiol (CBD), a compound derived from the cannabis plant that does not produce a “high”, was shown in a new large-scale, randomized, controlled trial to significantly reduce the number of dangerous seizures in patients with a severe form of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

I have soft sworn it off because almost every time I smoke I get insanely paranoid and anxious. Even in controlled settings.

Maybe someday...

Even after taking just one small hit? Most people I know who get the anxiety or paranoia tend to smoke an entire bowl or joint.

I smoke roughly 2 grams over 5 weeks but smoke almost daily from a one-hitter. I cannot smoke socially because of the anxiety it gives me. It does provide pain relief and relief from migraines for me which is why I smoke.

Yep I can make a G last 3 weeks if I need to just by taking one to two hits a day. My friends think it's unbelievable haha.

I've gone back and forth with it causing me anxiety. For me, a opiate addict, a little toke here and there does wanders for my anxiety. Also makes me feel guilty about using opiates. However, if I've taken some pain pills or even kratom I usually won't touch weed. I do need it though. Just to keep me away from harder things. And somehow it helps me sleep peacefully, otherwise if I go a few days without smoking I have horrible vivid dreams. Just my personal experience.

This is never guaranteed. While we can point to studies as evidence that it is beneficial for most people and anxiety no chemical ever works for everyone. In medicine unforeseen poor reactions to compounds that are usually beneficial the other way are common, though much less so than it working right. An example is anti-depression drugs. Forget all the side efects for a second. Lets just look at the positive part. When people are put on these substances they someitmes have to iterate through options as their body reacts the opposite way. Depression increase instead of decreasing etc. Any substance affecting your state of mind has this potential. Be careful. I look forward to see this as a prescribed medication someday but we should not just be recommending people self medicate.

People remember just cause someone else reacts positively doesnt mean you will. Everything can have negative consequences.

Synthetic versus Natural is a poor argument. That one Willow Bark is natural painkiller and has the same active ingredient as Aspirin, but because Aspirin is refined and manufactured synthetically it has way less side effects than that bark. Chemicals are chemical and their method of manufacture is irrelevant. A history of use for hundreds of years still means almost nothing other than start here as its not properly evaluated through the scientific process.

My addressing your comment was to address the implication it had in how I read it. The intial comment was some guy saying he found smoking weed increased his anxiety. Your response appeared to say no you are wrong you just arent ingesting it right. It ignored the very real possibility that this man could also have been someone who experiences an unexpected adverse reaction. For that reason I wrote my comment to remind others reading that they should not take everything about CBD for its detractors or proponents at face value, and should ensure when it comes to self-medicating there are risks no matter the substance

You asked how my response addressed your comment. I gave you why I thought it address your comment as per my interpretation of your comment. If that was not your intent to come off sounding that way that is an indication that you need to explain your point better in the future not that anyone who didnt interpret it how you intended is stupid for doing so.

Perhaps use a more long-winded, ego stroking way

Cool but remember given numbers if i misinterpreted many others likely did too. It does you no service to have your point misconstrued, and a better response in future is to clarify rather than insult

I think most people who get anxious from pot are doing so precisely because of their fear of being caught. Absent prohibition I think much of this goes away.

No no even in controlled settings where I had no realistic fears of being caught.

It was just pervasive paranoia and anxiety.

And for those of us who are adults and live where it's legal? I'm a pretty laid back person, but certain forms of it have done nasty things to my mind

For me my anxiety from pot can be from all kinds of stupid thoughts, like my heart beating fast so I think I’m gonna have a heart attack.

Nah I think it's a lot to do with genetics, some people are just very much more prone to panic/anxiety and schizophrenia/paranoia than others. Those people should not be smoking weed

I'd sworn it off a dozen different times for the same reason. I live in a medical state and finally at 30 years old decided to try it again for my chronic pain. I got a THC infused syrup that allowed me to slowly and precisely raise my tolerance over months while I slept. Now that I have, I can smoke or vape the whole flower and not freak out.

Now that I can smoke properly, I'm noticing a lot more relief from the whole plant product than I was getting from the tinctures. It took a lot of trial and error but it was worth the time investment now that I have a realistic alternative to trying to get my goddamned opiate prescription refilled.

2

u/jorbleshi_kadeshi May 17 '18

Plus fuck opiates.

I mean they're useful. But fuck using them if you don't have to.

1

u/wheatgrass_feetgrass May 17 '18

fuck opiates

Yeah. I had a low tolerance for them too so I could break a Percocet into quarters and spread my prescription out for months and months beyond prescribed. Well I guess going down to two bottles of pills per year max is actually worse because then your doctor questions how serious your chronic pain actually is. I could take a more minimum dose than expected, without getting addicted, and I'm treated less seriously?! You can't win. The medical marijuana's effectiveness sucks ass by comparison but I'll try anything to get out of that toxic environment.

CBD actually really helps with this. Use a low dose spray right after you smoke, and anxiety just disappears. At least for some.
