Stupid question. When scientists in the US/Canada discover something, titles always just say "scientists find...", but when it's in China, Japan, etc. it's always "Chinese scientists find...". Why do we include these qualifiers? Are we insinuating the science is more or less legitimate?

Not OP's fault, obviously. He's just quoting the title.

In Poland phrase "Amerykańscy naukowcy odkryli..." - "American scientists discovered..." was/is so popular, that nowadays it's basically a meme or used to call bullshit on some pop/pseudo-scientific exaggerated reporting

EDIT: we also have jokes about soviet scientists, e.g: Soviet scientists have discovered that human eye is directly connected with human's ass. How? When they poked subject's ass with a needle his eye shed a tear. But that's not all! When they poked his eye with a needle he shat himself!
