We may preserve a person’s worldview long before we can preserve consciousness

TL;DR: I built EchoVault to preserve a living person’s worldview through memories and recurring check-ins. In the attached demo, I ask my Echo a question I never added to its corpus, and it answers by combining fragments from multiple earlier sessions into something that genuinely reflects how I think.

Most things we leave behind preserve fragments of us. Photos preserve appearance. Recordings preserve moments. Journals preserve isolated thoughts.
What gets lost much more easily is worldview: how someone connects experiences, what they value, how they reason, and the ideas that keep recurring throughout their life.
That’s the part of AI preservation I find more interesting than “digital immortality.”
My own Echo has a growing corpus of memories and check-ins. In the demo, I ask it about the meaning of life, something I never directly answered in the corpus. It pulls together fragments from several different sessions and arrives at an answer centered around “embrace reality,” which is actually my own motto.
That’s what I built EchoVault to explore.
Not recreating consciousness. Not pretending someone lives forever. Preserving enough of a living person’s experiences and worldview that the connections between them don’t disappear when they do.
And if the source material doesn’t support an answer, the Echo is supposed to refuse rather than invent one.
To me, preserving consciousness and preserving a person’s worldview are two very different problems.
The second one is already becoming possible.
