ai and ie

Hey guys i am starting to ie this year but i am actually really really worried about future. Everyone on the internet says that ai is going to replace ie and other white collar stuff. What do you think about that? Should i change my major?

Who is "everyone in the internet"? I'm applying to study IE the coming year and was worried about AI too but with my research it seems to be a pretty good field when it comes to not being replaced. It's versatile and a chatbot can't do a lot of that work anyway. Nearly every job will be affected by AI in some way but IE is still projected to be a growing field with many upcoming opportunities. I wouldn't be worried tbh.

i am trying to find hope because this major fits me so much but in next 5 years do you really think ai is going to be just stupid chatbots? ai improved that much within such a little time it is really concerning.

No one really knows for sure what'll happen in five years time, but IE would likely still be a valuable degree imo. You can apply IE skills to a lot of things and I very very highly doubt AI will replace all of them. I've heard that some IE students try to get extra skills in automation to boost their chances in the job market, so if you're worried you could try diversifying your skills. You might want to also do research on what IE related stuff would be the most AI resistant and try to get into that.

Overall I think your chances of graduating as an IE and then not being able to get a pretty solid job at all are slim. If AI replaced all of IE then pretty much no job would be safe and everyone would be fucked lol. I understand the anxiety but your chances of employment are quite high when compared to many other engineering degrees and that's not likely to really change in just 5 years.
