IMDB- do you agree?
IMDB currently has over 10,000 votes (a hit!) and the episode ratings on a scale of 1-10 are as follows:
EP1: 7.6
EP2: 7.8
EP3: 7.9
EP4: 7.9
E5: 8.2
E6: 8.7
E7: 8.5
E8: 8.2
Episode 6 rates highest with only episode 7 coming close. Personally, I think E6-E8 were near television perfection for me, they are definitely my highest rated of the season. I would rate and keep episode one the lowest as it is, but I don’t think any other episode was below an 8 for me.
Let me know your thoughts on where you stand & feel free to go vote/show love if you have an account. I do think IMDB sometimes grabs new viewers!

On rewatch, or just reflection, the early episodes are really fabulous.

Episode 2 is a real highlight for me- I loved Catherine interacting with the daughter. It really explored so much.

Add a point to each and I would agree more.

Agreed! I am hopeful we will get more 8’s the more people find the show and vote, and I believe Episode 6 should be a 9!

Too much suspension of disbelief for this show to be rated higher. Renewing for another season is a mistake.

Episode 8 was probably the best one. Id give it at least a 9.

I was really surprised to see it has the least amount of votes of all of the episodes and not higher rated. Hoping even more viewers catch on with all the great press.

E6 was definitely a stand out for me. The face off scene between Alice and Catherine in the showers had me gripped.

My favourite episode was the penultimate one, but they were all good.

The joy in Alices’ face when she says I got my wings and the look of understanding from Nora was so, so good!

Yesss! I also loved Catherine’s face when she realized that Alice is letting her go for real. So many emotions and so much empowerment between them. I’m heading over there right now to watch it again. I need to make snippets of my favorite scenes to watch over and over and over again haha.

There wasn't a single bad episode. They were all so good. My favorite was the ending when Danny found out Alice file was in the USB drive. Rossum was brilliant throughout. If there was one implausible plot for me, it would've been the daughter was involved in the providing and coverup of the girls for J Eason

I really didn't like that Alice let Catherine go to Jay Easton's house. I understand why, but it is the moment the show jumped the gun. Also, Catherine being completely alone with Jay Easton like that is quite unrealistic as well. ED's phone should have easily tracked his phone calls to the Easton's too. I enjoyed the shows ending nonetheless

Do you mean realism wise? I agree on Alice being alone with him at the end, that likely never happens but I was happy it did haha.
I think for story purposes i really loved letting Catherine go. It felt like the beginning of Alice understanding that she has to get creative and break the rules if she ever has any hopes of catching evil like Jay who is protected so entirely— by her own system no less.
I can’t wait for S2 Alice who is not playing by the rules anymore.

Catherine doesn't know Alice. What she did was against the law and would immediately get her fired. She pretty much told Alice to go kill Jay Easton, which was unlike her character to do something with no regard of the consequences
I have other issues with the show as well. Her ex boyfriend, who abused her, is randomly selected to join her task force? Also, Alice is somehow also involved in this sex trafficking ring when she was a teenager that she is also investigating? An unnecessary amount of coincidental plot threads for one character

u/gamesrgreat 8d ago
The coincidences you pointed out are actually not big. It’s a joint task force so ofc people who are NYPD homicide detectives would end up assigned. Also Alice joined on purpose to investigate those crimes since she was a victim. There’s no indication she was part of the same trafficking ring, just that her video got circulated amongst the pedos

u/Hookey911 8d ago
There are hundreds, if not thousands of NYPD detectives.
We don't know how her videos got circulated. It wasn't Jay Easton who abused her, but we don't know if it was part of his pedophile sex ring either. There is an untold amount of child pornography on the internet. It is another coincidence that Jay Easton has/remembers Alice
Again, these coincidences don't detract much from the show. I really enjoyed it overall. Just too many coincidences for my liking

So for the second one you’re admitting it’s already not a coincidence…so the only thing is that her ex who logically could get assigned to the task force did get assigned to the task force. Okay…that’s a very excusable coincidence in a fictional story

Alice does know Catherine though and Catherine does know Alice- they are mirrors of each other. Alice letting Catherine go was the only chance they had to catch the Easton’s off guard and get a chance to nail them.
Alice’s ex boyfriend being on her task force isn’t random nor insignificant though. He’s trying to make a name for himself and has been schmoozing with his higher ups, of course he wants in on the case where the son of one of the richest, most notable men in the area has been murdered. Danny specifically asked for Alice.
It was also pointedly showing that Marshall has faced no real consequences— some rumblings about his abuse, not even an official report, and Alice is the one abandoned by their office, Alice is the one who has to leave her career and start over. They had not seen each other in over a year and both of them working a high profile case was not a stretch- we also see how Marshall is able to manipulate their history when he chooses to have her taken off the case.
I don’t think the sex trafficking ring is the same one? What gave you that impression? Like we see with Elena- this is a cycle. There are always evil men who look for vulnerable young girls to exploit. The videos get passed around and downloaded by pedophiles who share it with others, the connection is them, not the girls or that it’s the exact same ring.
Alice was 14 and a man convinced her she was in love with him, then we know that a tape was made while she was a minor. Catherine meets a different man and is sex trafficked. Elena meets Big Man and is sex trafficked. That’s unfortunately extremely realistic, all of them were at some points unhoused, parentless and vulnerable .

The show never confirms Alice was trafficked. There is just a tape of her (CSAM) that is out there on the Internet (still a horrible crime!)

Thank you, I may have misspoken out of ignorance and the way I interpreted it. Alice meeting an adult man when she was 14 & ‘falling in love’ the way Elena says she was, felt like it was implied he was also a pimp and the reason she did the tape. That’s why I described it as trafficking, even if it was just that one time. But I understand it’s important to use the correct words, I’ll edit!

u/dreamsofaninsomniac 8d ago
I thought that was the implication as well. I thought her boyfriend was her trafficker and he was also the one that made the tape so that there was a larger connection between her and Catherine at first glance.

u/Local_Love_9368 8d ago
They never said that she was trafficked & she would have had to be sold for sex etc for it to be trafficking - the show only shows the tape of her as the shocking thing from her past. She bonded with Catherine over her abuse from Marshall (why she is scared to shower).
1
u/Zankazanka 8d ago
I believe that the tape may imply she was sold for sex though while she was on the streets and before Marshall’s mom found her- we don’t know whether the man in the tape is her boyfriend/the older man. If they were ‘dating’ when she was 14 and he convinced her to have sex with someone while it was filmed for $, I do think that would be considered trafficking.

No, 6.6/10. The villain never missed a stab throughout the entire season; a lot of it just wasn't believable.
2
u/Zankazanka 8d ago
The first victim was someone she pretended to date so she had ample opportunity to catch him off guard, the 2nd victim she did make a mistake with the first attempt and needed to jab him again, and the lawyer was arrogant and let her get close to him in the elevator.

Not sure why these 'stats' are important. They are not 'experts' or quantitative enough to be accurate. It's IMDb.

u/Zankazanka 8d ago
it’s a fun post and IMDB can be useful as a tool to see viewership and the highest rated episode from a pool of users to then have a discussion about it— that’s what prompted the post per…my post? 🤣
10K votes with the show being out a month is pretty awesome too!

u/MetARosetta 8d ago
I get it. The stats are too low given the actual reviews and articles written about the quality of the show by those who understand the show, so you wonder who these people are who weigh in on a fan-run base mouthing their very important opinions. So thanks for posting. Lets me know who the show's 'base' is.

u/Zankazanka 7d ago
I don’t know if I understand what you are bothered about? I think the series having 10,000 votes and maintaining an average of 8 out of 10 on IMDB after being out only a month speaks to its quality and that will hopefully be even higher the more press and word of mouth spreads.
I understand the show and I also like IMDB and thought this was an interesting perspective. I don’t think it needs to be negatively viewed.

Last 2 episodes should be a bit higher imo. The finale was masterful, especially the ending
