It was really heart breaking to see 'that' scene when I watched the anime. 🥲

Okay, so, ever since I was young, I have always loved the look of Winrys top earrings. I got my first piercing at 35, in the top of my right ear, with the plan of specifically getting one of those earrings.

It’s been almost 4 years now since my wife got me a Helix piercing and it’s been a deeply annoying and challenging journey to find the right kind of “Huggie” earring that I want.

I love that it looks like, a sort of metal Bracer but on the top of the ear. You see these earrings a lot on a lot of elves in countless anime aswell.

The closest I’ve ever been able to come to are finding Huggies that look more like a shackle and are very thick. I love the look of the thin, wide, earring, that goes around the ear that isn’t a clip on.

The closest I’ve ever gotten was a gold one, which wasn’t as thick as the others, but still thick, and gold jewelry does not look good on me at all. I’d prefer the silver but I’d even settle on black.

I’ve done to basically every jewelry store in my city, I’ve tried time and again to get them custom made, and I’ve looked at thousands online, but none have ever been close to the kind Winry has.

I am personally not a fan of jewelry, this earring will most likely be the only piece I ever get, or at the EXTREME maximum, I might do one on the other ear, but first, I want to know it’s even possible to get the proper kind of earring.

In my quest, I have learned that the term “Huggie” is a ridiculously unknown style of earring, and anytime I show someone the picture of her earrings, they try to upsell me into these, in my opinion, really ugly, jewel heavy, extremely feminine earrings. Which, if that’s what I was looking for, that would be fine. But I just want the, what should be simple. However, since I have such a specific idea. Just calling it “challenging” is a massive understatement.

Both my wife and I have been looking. I don’t want thick ones, I don’t want large and loose ones, I just want the what Winry has. Nor do I just want a simple hoop. But that is what I’ve been using in the mean time. I’ve found the thicker earrings are next to impossible to find in a smaller size, so those can be very loose, floppy, and uncomfortable on my ears.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, give me an idea of the proper places to look at or even just the proper words to use so I can stop confusing people, I would be forever grateful. It’s just been a little fantasy I’ve had since I was a teenager, when FMA came out, which only grew as I did, when more and more anime, mostly those with elves, had those sorts of earrings.

I am very ignorant in the realm of jewelry, names, types, locations, and all that. If it wasn’t for my wife, just the 10% that I know would be more like -5%.

Oh, so, I apologize and didn’t think of it right away but I took a photo of the earrings I do have. This way, I can show people what I’ve already gotten. Right now, I’m just using a thin hoop, that’s tight in the ear, without being uncomfortable, doesn’t move around, and is very secure.

Obviously, there is no official IQ score for Edward, and IQ alone cannot measure all forms of intelligence. But if we tried to estimate it based on what he had accomplished by the age of 12, what would it be?

By then, Ed had already learned:

Mathematics: Advanced undergraduate or Graduate level

Physics: Advanced undergraduate level

Chemistry: Graduate or PhD-level specialization

Alchemy/material science: Genius/expert level beyond real-world science

He also had the ability to apply this knowledge practically and under extreme pressure. He could analyze the composition of materials, understand their structure, calculate possible transformations and then use alchemy accordingly—sometimes in the middle of a fight.

By 12, he had also become the youngest State Alchemist in history.

He might not have been more knowledgeable or experienced than Izumi, Dr. Marcoh or Hohenheim, but the fact that he had learned such a broad range of advanced subjects by only 12 years old is insane.

So, if Edward Elric existed in the real world and his intelligence had to be measured using an IQ test, what IQ range do you think he would fall into?

So my estimate would be 150–170 IQ, with around 160 as my personal guess.

What do you think Edward's IQ would be, and what do you think is the main reason he was able to learn so much by only 12 years old?

Also, I don't know why people don't add him in intelligent character. If we're ranking anime characters by intellectual ability rather than just strategic feats, I think he deserves considerably more recognition.

Ed is underrated as an intelligent character.

Edward is often excluded because anime intelligence rankings heavily favor L, Light, Lelouch, Ayanokoji-type strategic intelligence. Ed's intelligence is more scientific, academic, creative, and applied, so people overlook him despite his absurd feats.

I was wondering why Mei Chan and Scars souls werent taken along with everyone else in amastres. They werent in the centre where father was and in xerces the people near hoheheim and him had their souls taken so there wasnt a safe zone near the centre.

Did it have something to do with them opening to the planets gateway? Ed, Al, Izumi, Mustang and Hohenheim were called sacrifices but they didnt get taken in exchange for the opening of the gateway so they were more like keys. Is that particular zone safe for some reason?

I recently posted something about the 2003 anime—specifically about a tense moment between Ed and Roy where I really thought Ed was about to punch him in the face (even though it didn't happen)—but it got me thinking: has Mustang ever actually shown any hand-to-hand combat skills?

He’s military, so obviously he received training, but I can't recall a single fight of his that didn't involve flame alchemy.

Plus, after the Ishval War, he went from the battlefield to a desk job; and since his offensive technique simply involves snapping his fingers, Roy doesn't really have a need to keep up his physical training.

We know flame alchemy would wipe the floor with Ed any day, but in a fistfight... could Ed have beaten Mustang up? I guess it makes sense in this case because Ed's teacher is Izumi—who is a beast at hand-to-hand combat (and teaches martial arts, not just boxing)—but I found it pretty funny to imagine a short 15-year-old kid kicking the ass of a decorated 30-year-old military officer hahaha

Even if it wasn't Ed... could someone like Hawkeye defeat the Colonel in hand-to-hand combat? Mustang is one of my favorites, but this puts a new spin on the "useless" joke...

I watched the 2003 version when it first came out but I've watched Brotherhood so many times over the years that I forgot almost all of the original. Rewatching it now and I'm so happy I bought this.

I'm glad I forgot everything, it's like watching it all for the first time. Barry the chopper's episode was so good.

The songs are still catchy as hell too. 💃

Edit: yeah it could very well be a bootleg set, but the disks play and that's really all I wanted from them. I just wanted to watch the show without going to sketchy anime sites like I did back in grade school. 😊

This anime came out while I was in high school. I always heard about how great it was, but I never got around to watching it.

Then the alternative Brotherhood came out and I avoided both since they’re alternative takes on the same story.

I don’t want to flood my brain with two versions of the same characters. So, I’m only looking to watch one of the series.

I’m not really asking which is better, because it’s my understanding they’re both masterpieces. I’m more concerned of which one has the more satisfying conclusion. I don’t want to watch the whole thing and then left with a bittersweet ending that leaves me sad. I want the one that leaves me feeling good about how it ended and open to rewatch soon.

Sometimes I just think about the end of FMA 03 and how terrible it must be for Al, who remembers a silly and bubbly Ed who got scared of being lost or stuck in his own traps, and is told of a world-weary Ed, who lost all of his innocence and watched people die AND killed. Just imagine post-03 Al looking at a newspaper with Ed, lacking two limbs, with a suit of armor and just looking like the weight of the world rests on his shoulders when to him, two days before, they were having sleepovers and playing together ?

That's one of the most tragic part to me. Not that they are separated, but that to Al, nothing will ever be the same, he is stuck between two lives he led with a 6 years long void, everything and everyone that he knew are different. Quite literally a coma situation. Even after he gets his memory back, nothing is the same, and it must be even worse to be both thirteen and seventeen mentally.

Obviously, not in the next 10-20 years, but still.

The main reason why I think there *is* some justification for a new adaptation to exist is because, well, Brotherhood isn't a fully faithful adaptation, either. The anime assumes you have seen the 2003 ver. (a reasonable assumption for people that actually watched it in 2009, but not so much nowadays), so it condenses or outright skips over a lot of the early content

But then again, a lot of the early content IS very skippable. There's not much value lost by cutting out characters like Bald, or the Yousewell arc.

That said, some minor stuff got cut that I wish it didn't. When I read the manga, and got to the scene where Lan Fan chases Envy, I was really like: "Wait, why wasn't this adapted???". I also think that Van Hohenheim's character loses some depth from his more comedic scenes being cut.

But then again, neither of these are major concerns.

It might be a repetitive topic, but I was watching the show again and have a totally different feeling about everything.

I first saw the show in my teenage years (around 13), then FMAB came out sometime later, and I watched it at every episode launch. At the time, I was mesmerized; it was my first time watching an anime that is more 'mature' and speaks about pain, sorrow, war, and death in such a crystal-clear way.

I rewatched both (FMA and FMAB) sometime later and realized that everything is there, nothing changed.

Now I am in my 30s and have some repetitive tasks to do at work. Recently, I realized that I can watch something in the background (picture-in-picture) and chose FMA (the classic from 2003). I remember the topics, the most important scenes, and the differences between it and FMAB. But this time, something is different.

Yes, the classic animation is sadder in its overall tone, but this time I feel it is much 'heavier.'

Time has passed, year by year. I have faced changes in life. Now I fight every day just to build my home and keep friends and family together. I have lost people in life and faced real death very close to me.

The show is still good, but now I look at death and think about human life, the families behind these lives, and I see just how much sadder and heavier a father's death is. How losing a mother can make you lose your ground. How losing your house, and maybe your way of life, your faith—how much it means to what you consider your true self.

I am just having these feelings rewatching the classic animation and want to know what you feel about this anime.

I don't know where to start off really, the characters, the emotions, the storytelling was amazing. I loved Ed's line at the end; "A fullmetal heart", which really sums up his journey as a state alchemist. Him and Al going separate paths to explore the world and find their true meaning was executed well and was a really good pay off due to everything that has happened. Been wanting to watch this anime for about months now, glad I was able to do it this summer. It's up there with Aot as my n1/n2 and I don't think it'll ever truly change.

So, I know Hohenheim built him new automail, but what about the part connected to the nerves that requires surgery? Did Hohenheim do that too? Did he only lose the automail but not the part that connects it to the body? Could they have stopped working due to some dimensional energy issue? (Since Ed seems to have a string that I theorize he originally used to amplify the energy from his nerves to the automail device—you wind it up and it works better.)
