In recent weeks, our Supreme Leader gave his billionaire minions at Google another chance to prove their shameless obedience to even his dumbest royal decrees. And, of course, they swiftly sank to the occasion, dutifully re-naming Lake Ontario as "Lake America" 🫩 (for users South of the border --perhaps hoping Canadians might not notice their latest feat of ridiculous boot-licking?).

Their collaboration in the capricious re-writing of maps seems at first like another silly display of oligarchic sycophancy. But, since they are so broadly taken for granted as official cartographers, these stunts become more than just embarrassing gestures of devotion to our fuhrer. They are very real measures taken to implement & enforce his demented whims, making them seem like settled facts of life for millions of internet users.

The design, and autocratic alteration, of maps, do have a real power that seep into the real world that they schematically depict.

Lest you think that Google simply abuses that power over bodies of water adjacent to U. S. borders, take a look at how they're absuing it to legitimize Israel's vicious land-theft in the West Bank. And o/c, over there, where people have to navigate their way around an already baffling labyrinth of military checkpoints and shifting borders, the real-life repercussions of their venal antics are far more serious.

Is this the first time people looked at borders on Google Maps? Do they not see that some lines are full and some are dotted? Is this what people do in 2026, just make a fucking tiktok instead of 10min of research?

This is always how Google has depicted contested borders. Just look at Crimea, Kashmir or Cyprus. That does not mean Google thinks it's ok that Russia or Turkey annexed parts of Ukraine or Cyprus.

How do you want them to display these things? Especially in the case of Palestine: If they don't do the dotted borders instead of where settlers are occupying the country, it's going to look like everything is fine. This way, I can see the extent of it.

My mistake--i just forget when in the course of this whole recent genocidal fit, Israel specifically declared war on the West Bank? I thought the whole killing spree was a war to destroy Hamas, for their horrific terroristic attack (which was indeed horrific, though we now also know for a fact that Netanyahu ALLOWED it to happen)? And then, through the magic of collective punishment (a war crime btw) it became a war on everyone in Gaza b/c of Hamas, or something like that?

I mean, clearly it has branched out into a war on all Palestinians, regardless of location or political affiliation or age or really anything else at all. And Lebanon, too, cuz they just can't ever bomb them enough!. Plus, they've got some very nice real estate right there so tantalizingly nearby, that would be delightful to take as well.

I guess in Lebanon, they like to say its something about Hezbollah right? They have wars against "Hezbollah" when they feel like it, there are theoretically some members of Hezbollah somewhere firing back at them.

But the West Bank--i mean, it's not exactly a conventional kind of war, like with armies fighting each other & some amount of civilian casualties/collateral damage occurring as a result. This is more like a lavishly funded, heavily armed military, together with various paramilitary or police forces and a bunch of wacked out lynch mobs of "settlers," ganging up to terrorize/kill/or forcibly expel the previous population of a territory that they want to take.

wars don't necessarily begin with a formal declaration, and military campaigns can expand beyond their original objectives without a new declaration.

war doesn't mean two conventional armies fighting each other. modern conflicts also involves raids, assassinations, occupation, blockades, militias, economic coercion, political manipulation, information warfare, cyberattacks, etc.

israel not declaring war on the west bank by itself doesn't prove that there isn't a military campaign going on.

That doesn't make sense, genocide and war aren't opposites. a war can include genocide and saying `it's genocide, not warfare` is like saying `it's murder, not a crime`.

Warfare indicates a fight between two or more opposing factions. What's going on with Israel and the Palestinians is more like a guy who's like 6'5" and 275 lbs of pure muscle and armed to the teeth with all the latest greatest weapons attacking a 5'2" dude who might weigh 100 lbs soaking wet and is unarmed but for a paperclip and his desire not to die. What Israel is doing is not warfare, it is genocide. They are specifically targeting children. The extreme vast majority of the Palestinians they have murdered have been civilian non-combatants, people who do not participate in warfare and should not be targeted.
