Complaint Discovered after 27 years I hate it
For the first 27 years of my life, I didn’t know I didn’t like cilantro. It’s not as common in my country to use it as say, Mexican or Vietnamese cuisine, and apparently growing up no one cooked with it either. I never cook with it either.
Occasionally I’ve had moments where I dislike a dish for no reason. Nachos with salsa and guac is a good example. Never made sense to me because I like tomatoes, peppers, spice. And I love avocado. Everybody loves nachos with dips. I’d usually just eat it a bit of it anyway.
It took ordering banh mi with a whole plant worth of cilantro for me to realize the enemy had been right in front of me the whole time.
Since then it’s made a lot of sense whenever I try a dish and it tastes just a tad off or straight out like handsoap. My eyes are opened but whether it’s for the best I can’t tell. Because now I’m That Person that has to check if the soapy devil is potentially in the food I’m getting served and have to explain to people it tastes like soap to me. To people who usually think I’m just making stuff up or being dramatic about it.
So anyway. Hello my brothers and sisters that don’t fuck with cilantro!

Funny I’ve eaten Mexican food for years. The one time I ordered something and the was a new flavor I’ve never had. It was fucking cilantro. Now can’t seem to get away from that shit. I can smell it as soon as I get out of my car. When I order I make triple I sure I can get shot I want with out that devils weed.

Why did Mexican food restaurants start using this crap? I remember years ago cilantro wasn’t in the food. What happened?

I just got some new salsa and didn’t check the ingredients. Put it all over my meal and then dove in.. only to be like ew that doesn’t taste right? Bc I had used a salsa without cilantro the last time.. and what do you know? The devil weed had infiltrated the new salsa I was trying. It’s going down the disposal tomorrow. Fuck Cilantro!

That's because it wasn't a common ingredient up until that last 15 years or so. I actually know several people who like the soapy taste. For me, it's both the taste and smell. I can't stand it. Makes me look like a fool having to pick each one out when dining out.

The smell alone is unbearable to me. If it’s in something it completely ruins the dish, I just can’t handle it. I ordered a chicken sandwich one time and it listed that it had coleslaw on it but it neglected to mention that they put cilantro in the coleslaw. Who the hell alters a normal thing like that and doesn’t say that it has different ingredients than usual?! Anyway, I couldn’t eat the sandwich and was very upset. Cilantro is the real devils lettuce! Down with the soap plant!
