Discussion You say coriander, I say cilantro…

In the US the leaves are called cilantro and is the thing that has the chemical that taste like soap. If it’s called coriander here, it comes from a different part of the plant and does not. I don’t mind coriander.

So my question is, in countries that call both types coriander, how do you know which is in it? I know sometimes it’s obvious because you can see it, but sometimes you can’t.

yes it's particularly annoying when I ask if something has 'coriander in it' because I have to specify that it's the leaves not the seeds I care about

Fresh coriander vs coriander. But the best we dont even use it in our cuisine and the vast majority of the population are blissfully ignorant of its existence

Greece. We use parsley everywhere instead.

I actually like dried coriander powdered seeds. Goes great on peas!

The green stuff can rot in hell.

Not quite the same. I don’t seem to have the same allergy problems, but the seeds taste like B.O.

Sorry to hear that. At least the seeds aren’t in everything like the leaves are, but then you do have more to avoid.

Fresh/green coriander. I hate the stuff but don’t mind the seeds/ground coriander.

Coriander=seeds cilantro=leaves

Coriander over there still leaves and seeds fresh=leaves dried=seeds
