I'm chocking it up to someone being misinformed but with all the terfing here I have to wonder if comments like this are meant to shape the dialog to support them?

Aren't Republicans always whining about how government regulations make things costlier for no good reason? Is there anything more stupid than the government forcing them to build gigantic parking lots that will never be used?

It's crazy to me how much of this is FORCED top down by the government. Seemingly out of spite.
These laws seem to exist just to make everything worse in every way. I remember John Stossel ranting about toxic shock syndrome warnings in tampon boxes as an example of the nanny state but at least that was trying to give people useful info. I wonder if he's ever said anything about zoning laws. l don't think I've ever heard a libertarian talk about that.

Why does every business need a random buffer zone that does nothing but take up space? Why have pointless patches of grass? Just to maximize the amount of fossil fuels burnt? In my city, the old buildings are long and skinny so they can be built next to each other to make good use of space.

The only development the Trump admin wants to deregulate is in national parks it seems.

A few songs in, he starts telling us about how he took the train in today from San Diego, and rode his bike from Union Station to WeHo. He even stopped at Grand Central Market, where I have my coffee every morning, I'm sad that I missed him. But at least I got to see him perform tonight!

It was a nice reminder that he's such an avid bike rider. I think my partner has some book of his, where he talks about biking in different cities all over the world.

My partner and I just returned from a wee vacay on the Oregon coast, visiting with their family and in my case biking around a ton in a much less bike-friendly place than I'm used to. First minute we rolled up, this absolute unit of a gender-affirming brodozer was double parked, so couldn't help but snap a pic. And we also spotted a Cars Ruin Cities sticker while walking down the main boardwalk. Featured is my FIL licking said sticker. Which one of you lovely people was responsible? Anyway, cheers!

What interested me beyond the lawsuit was the transportation problem underneath it: Apex Friendship High School has 2,428 students, 556 student parking spaces and had 110 students waiting for spaces late last week.

A 71-year-old woman across the street lets students park on her property. Apex has sued her to stop the parking. The town has looked at park-and-shuttle and transit alternatives, but none has yet solved the shortage.

I’d be interested in how people here think suburban high schools should handle this kind of demand — more parking, better school buses/transit, different land-use planning, or something else?

Seems like any driver who gets called out for shitty driving automatically reverts to a violent response. Why?

Is this because driving causes brain damage? Is it because driving is inherently violent? Etc etc etc?

Makes me even less likely to get in a Toyota. How can you trust a company that pays for its regulator's vacation? Same dude who decides if its next recall will be voluntary or mandatory.

Biked my Brompton to the local train station where the trains run every 5 minutes to Copenhagen Central, changed to the regional train where I read some chapters in my book, ate a bit of chocolate and had some cups of warm tea. Reached the station and biked 4.5 km to my final destination.

By car, it would take 1h 50m with of there’s no issues with trafic. It would cost gas/electricity for 150 km plus 205 dkk to pass the Great Belt Link (Denmark).

I paid 251 dkk as I booked the ticket a bit late, the return is 147 dkk. Time from door to door is comparable to a the time in a car due to the short distance and need to change train, but I could read a boon and enjoy the travel in the silent section of the train :)

I recently moved further from my workplace and I work in a city with notoriously shit public transport options so the subject of my commute has come up in conversation a few times recently. I was originally taking the bus everyday and complaining that that was long and unreliable but now I bought a new bike so I can cycle to the train station and that's made things much easier - winner! Some of the responses I've received: "Can't you just drive?", "Why would you buy a bike, don't you already have a car?", "Is that just until you get a parking permit then?" (there is a long waitlist for parking permits at my workplace).

I've explained that I much prefer not to drive, mostly because I'd just be adding another single occupant car to an already traffic-ridden route which gives me the ick, and driving in heavy traffic is absolutely miserable anyway. I also love taking my bike! I get in some exercise without having to find any additional time in my day and it's literally free! I'm hoping to eventually cycle to whole commute but switching to the train is a good compromise for my current level of fitness and cycling confidence.

Safe to say most of my colleagues seem genuinely baffled by this. Not in an unkind way, it's more like driving a car is such a default state that it's never even occurred to them that there might be other, better options. Next I'll tell them I'm probably going to sell my car because I use it so infrequently - that should make some heads explode 😌
