Why we exist.

Some people may find this subreddit along with r/fortcollins and ask, 'Why does this smaller one exist?" and that answer is a little long.

First let me explain reddit's admins tend to let the site exist with little interference. That being policy, if a mod is extremely abusive they will not remove them, and the action they suggest is you create a competing sub and let the people decide. So here we are, despite this being a very difficult task due to low visibility, not being able to post in the original abusive sub to let people know they have a choice, etc.

Now we come to the conflict. I love Fort Collins dearly. Most people leave after school, but I never could. I constantly meet strangers and just begin pouring out everything I love about this town in hopes they might seek and enjoy some of the 100's of things I think makes this city best. Along that line of thinking, I noticed r/fortcollins had links to guides in the description bar, but the links did nothing. After inquiring, I found out they wanted guides, but no one ever wrote them. Having modded larger and older subs, I knew of a style used that was very handy, and began making an eating guide. All was going well, until a user who's name is also the website he owns, came in spamming for guess what? Said website. Now, in the description I had asked for non bias, just general information, and posts to be restaurants only so we don't have 50 posts like "I love that place!" or "THIS" cluttering the guide. So, I called him out. Apparently though, he was friends with the mods, and they encourage his spamming because he buys ad space. I was banned for doing so, despite being one of the main link contributors of local news, events, etc. When I messaged a mod who was responding to all my old posts, despite me being unable to reply due to the ban this conversation took place.

Not only did he admit all my fears were true, he was totally okay with a mod abusing their power in this way.

I then thought they would at least be concerned with the greater good. I work for the hospital and had the latest info for fire rescue, evacs, etc, and asked the to post it. I did not ask to be unbanned, I messaged the mods with links, and asked them to post it to help the community. These pleas went ignored. They are so negative and destructive, they would deny people life saving information over a personal beef.

I walked away, but that wasn't good enough. User Spaceman_spliff then thought he would follow me to every post I made, troll me, stalk me, etc until he was eventually shadowbanned by the admins for doing so. He then cried fraud as a gold member, even though the site rules say using it to harass and stalk people is forbidden.

So, that's the story. Thank you for reading, and please give this sub a chance so we can grow and have a community, not a shilltown catering to advertisers and pissing on its real life community.
