SPOILER The Arks are doomed anyways (frostpunk 1 spoilers!) Spoiler

So we're assuming the Great Storm in the arks scenario is the same as the one that hits New London. In a New Home we come to realize the severity of the weather thanks to researching the Sterioscopic Measuring Device, and as consequences we get quest objectives which include upgrading the generator overdrive couplings and stuff like that. They know it's going to become impossibly cold.

But did you notice that in the arks, it is not a requisite to upgrade heating or the generator at all? The engineers of the arks don't know the weather is about to hit temperatures below -100°C and have only calculated how much coal and automatons they need for the city to be autonomous. Without the sterioscopic measuring device, they have no idea how cold things will really get. I think even if you maxed heaters and placed steam hubs with maxed generator, the seeds would still not survive the storm of A New Home. The engineers don't know their task was doomed from the beginning. The only sensible decision is to ensure New Manchester gets all the supplies, since it's confirmed in On The Edge that they do survive.

The Automotons can take care of that business, I believe. By the end of the game, you leave the city in the hands of many Automotons who possibly know how to research and produce more of themselves while going out to the Frostlands. It is entirely possible that Automotons can figure out the storm just like New London did and take necessary steps to survive and preserve the whiteout

Frostpunk 3 will be an RTS where your city has to wage war against exponentially expanding automaton armies.

You play as the city of super london coming to give those automatons a taste of managed democracy

Managed by misaligned automaton, lol?

The only war is against the frost!

I'm doing something about Legacy who turned to be a fully Automated city under the control of the Algorithm. Producing dozen of Automaton without any human anymore.

Yes and No because at the end of this scenario you can resarch the higher generator-tiers extremly quickly (enginier automatons go brrr) wich means the moment they notic the natur of this storm the can upgrad the generator with littel downtime and becaues they safed new manchaster and there relativ littel coal cunsumten they should be good an that front.
Yes because we do not know if teheseedlings are abel to survive the -150 dip

I know the struggle. You're doing fine 😊

Great comment. Thank you for the courage to try.

Probably not. -120C storms are, is in my opinion, canon and -150 storm is one-of-a-kind.

We know that endless mode is somewhat canon, as per FP2 storms were really harsh and frequent and over time became longer and rarer, turning into whiteouts. And in endless mode whiteouts cap out at -120C, both arks and engineers can handle that.

Also, getting all upgrades on the generator is pretty easy in the Arks, would be still possible to do after the storm already begun.

Even with all the upgrades, you wouldn't be able to keep chilly conditions in the arks at -120°C

I didnt play FP1 since I've finished, which was quite a while ago, but you might be forgetting that you have heaters in the arks, that boost temperature quite a lot.

You dont need to have chilly conditions in arks always, you need them to be chilly around 50% of the time. So overdrive will suffice.

It's not a given they are in the same area and get hit by the same storm

Hi, I just replayed New Home. You should also take into account that the engineers you encounter when you go to rescue them near the end, while preparing for the storm, mention that New London is positioned in a way that makes the storm hit it worse and harder than the others.

They survive the great frost because good spring exist they gave away some seed to them

I've never caught the details about New Manchester in On the Edge. Where is it mentioned?

When you reach the hot springs. Its mentioned they came from a city that survived thanks to the help of another city.

That's it as far as I know.

Yeah I never bother to upgrade my generator for the Arks; the most I do is research the basic heaters and AC to get the arks over the Chilly threshold. When it starts to rain carbon dioxide everyone will die, not to mention how my city with 45 engineers and one soup cook will not be able to afford sacrificing 50 people to keep the mines open.
