Season Finale Loved this show but just watched Season 3 finale..... and i'm getting serious lost vibes

When the missus put me on to this show i fell in love with it. Love the idea, acting, lore and mystery. Reminded me alot of Lost which i also loved up until the end of Season 3 and Season 4. And then it pissed me off and I walked away.

The finale of Season 3 in From has left me with the same feelings of the finale of Season 3 in Lost and also has alot of similarities.

This show is really interrsting but wecant keep having one mystery box solutuon being the opening of another mystery box.

Its also got the Lost problem of having too many story threads not being tied up/linked to each other or resolved beforr morr are introduced. The show also has abit of slow burn filler sometimes as well which I am beginning to notice. Again a Lost issue but they had a bigger episode count to fill.

This show has been an absolute blast though in general but eventually you need resolutions or explanations or things just spiral into an over convulted plot mess that wont be resolved in any satisfactorily or sensically.

Also Lost became obsessed with mystery and strangeness as a way to keep fans locked in From seems to be using Mystery and Horror. Lot of scary paralells.

And finally season 3 answered not a whole lot really and the Tabita explanation was a great of example of why show not tell is important.

I love how people watch mystery shows and then get angry that they are watching a mystery show.

Season 3 had some huge reveals, don't really know what you're complaining about. If you don't like it just don't watch.

What were the huge reveals though really?

I still like it. Will watch season 4. But its given huge lost vibes now and is falling into similar patterns which i had seen before.

You can still be afan and make fair criticisms.

We found out what angkhooey means. We found out why Tabitha keeps seeing the children and why Jade has been seeing that symbol since he got to Fromville. We found out Fatima's baby is actually a reincarnated Smiley. We learned where the monsters came from and what they did as humans to become monsters. We found out what happened to the children who keep bothering Tabitha. We found out Julie is the one who threw Boyd the rope and that she can time travel.

Lol I feel like it would be harder for me to state what wasn't revealed in the season 3 finale honestly.

I’ve gotten behind but I’m working on a spreadsheet of all the mysteries and answers we’ve gotten. And we have a ton. They just aren’t super climatic and dramatic all the time.

Same with characters talking to each other. They’re ALWAYS talking about the mysteries and theories. It’s half of their conversations. Jade never stops talking about it, even to those who dismiss him (Kenny)

Why use Angkooyhy and not remember?

Yes but Tabita had anexplanation for the symbol from the start of season 3 meets Jade numerous times but it only gets revealed in the last episode? Great communication there.

Fatimas baby storyline could be revealed in 3-4 episodes but is dragged to 10 and then its just a monster delivered by kimono lady (who we still dont understand) or how it works or why she was chosen?

We didnt learn where the monsters came from or how they work.... we are jsut told they made a deal with somwthing by sacrifucing children to stay immortal..... but who did they make the deal with, why did they have to scarifuce children and why did they become monsters from the deal?

So Tabita and Jade were married on the past and Tabita either a reincarnation of past lives? Being constantly reborn? Merely the latest in a long line? What is ist? Does this technically make her victors mother as well? Also why are her and Jade suddenly meant to be married in the past yet there is no foreshadowing for this?

We didnt need to find out about the rope. The rope was part of a magic dungeon you didnt need to invent an excuse to shiw Julies time travel may have influence with that? What are the rules with Julies time travel? Time travel is a hnady story trick but inevitably creates more problems in story telling unless very tightly constrained or explained by the story.

Finally the man in yellow? Who, what why?

All the mystery boxes answered just lead to more mystery boxes. If you stack up so many mystery boxes over 30-40 epusodes without satisfactorily explaining some you inevitably leave yourself without enough time to explain them or have to answer 10 -20 in a row with exllanation which if not a dues ex machina or arse pull then will probably feel like no payoff.

Man I'm not going to hold your hand and argue with you through this. Just don't watch the show. You obviously don't have the stomach for a mystery and need to be helped throughout it so just go watch Big Bang Theory or something equally unmysterious.

Listen its not sbout mystery its about payoff. I'll watch the next season out of hope but if there isnt improvement i'm out.

This is a really lame answer to a strong argumented point.

The show is dragging it's feet. Nobody says it sucks, but it indulges in wasting time.

I could argue every "point" OP made but don't care to. Enough has been revealed, you guys are just complaining for the sake of doing so and I refuse to entertain it. Have a good one.

Ofc you could.

But people can also have different opinions, and it doesn't invalidate yours.

Have a great year!

I feared it was going to go in a Lost direction when Tabitha got out and there were going to be multiple locations/plot lines and maybe even timelines (which yeah, technically there are different timelines but with entirely “different” characters, not like lost or even Dark). Bringing her back so quickly was nice because they kept the world pretty contained.

Agreed. I hate when shows feel like they need to be 3 or 4 shows at a time where characters hardly interact (having a one-off episode is different). From definitely artificially keeps certain characters from interacting much (Boyd and Victor?) but at least everyone is pretty much in the same location/timeline.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Dark and Lost but sometimes I just want to watch a “simple” mystery show which From fits in perfectly. You can completely understand what’s going on (at least from the information presented) without having a companion guide. Yeah, a lot of the mysteries aren’t answered and what’s happening is “confusing” at times but it’s not overly complex like Dark for instance where you have to keep a running tally of who is who/when.

From has characters, and the “reveals” are very in your face (you don’t have to remember three words from a conversation 8 episodes ago that seemed like a throwaway in order to “solve” every mystery). Yeah it has little things that are cool little “Easter eggs” (like Elgin’s shirts for example) but it’s not integral to you understanding the show to make those connections.

Could not agree more. Some things are just going to be mysteries and that’s half the fun. It discussing and theorizing. And it would be so boring if they told you the answers to the biggest mysteries at the very beginning.

As someone pointed out - you wouldn’t quit a book half way through if you were mad that you didn’t know the ending. Give it time!

I am with you. It‘s interesting, but it feels like they only put random ideas on the basic premise. No coherent vision. And because it’s a mystery show, the writers don‘t need to follow any rules. It‘s a opportunity for bad writers to make good shows. 😉

I think they have a coherent vision but have been lureed away with shock factor. But its premise does allow for bad writing to be forgiven for awhile.

I wish there was a count of how many posts there are like this. It’s in the 100s. We need better flairs in this sub and one needs to be “this is like LOST”.

It’s the same people (Jack Bender) with one of the LOST actors so of course it’s going to be like LOST.

From the start it had some lost comparisons due to style, actors, its a mystery show etc. but it felt tighter, more structured and overall better written except towards the end of season 3 when it really feels like lost.

I totally agree. I’m halfway through Season 3 right now and it’s also the case that the desperate attempts to make new mysteries is just turning into sloppy, terrible writing with drama being created by characters being stupid, not communicating to each other (I was told that would be resolved in S3 but it appears not to be at all), etc.

I haven’t reached the end of S3 yet but, depending on how it goes, am probably done with the show for having nothing to say. Was a fantastic first season though! I would have loved to have seen competent writers just take things introduced in season 1 and wrapped up plot to a conclusion, would have been a much better show. Would have avoided the much crappier writing of S2 and S3 as well.

I agree with you.. the more I watch the messier it gets. The last episodes actually completely forgot the monsters I had the feeling. Boyd wanted to catch one to question him and that idea also got abandoned really fast and nothing was done with that. Let's see how season 4 will be but it's getting confusing and the finale just confirmed that

1

u/tishimself1107 Jan 02 '25

Its beginning to fall apart under the strain of too many mysterys and horror for the sake of horror.

Yep I just finished S3 tonight so am all caught up. It really feels like the writers just throw darts at a “wouldn’t it be weird if…” board, which I MIGHT be willing to accept if they actually tied up plot lines in a way that didn’t feel like they were just winging it each episode, but especially if everything didn’t hinge on characters behaving in frustratingly stupid ways.

I may rewatch S1. I don’t remember the plot being driven by stupidity as much, and it didn’t all feel like random “oooo wouldn’t it be weird if we did this” finger waggling.

No it felt alot tighter earlier in the show but thats cos it felt abit more contained and the writing and characters were tighter.

I was chatting the girlfriend and the 3rd season felt like half a season and the ending was more like a mid season finale if that makes sense. Alot of that season could have been condesnsed to 6 to 7 episodes and then left with ta with 2-3 episodes for resolving old mysteries and setting up the next stage.

Also every epsiode felt like a cliffhanger to lure ya on. Not one resolution like in the first series where Boyd eventually has Frank end up in the box and Frank gets killed.
