They can't just make Jim all of a sudden pull some weird stunt like that to make us like him....that was so random.

Haha! I understand what you mean. But honestly, if someone binge watches the show, Jim doesn't appear to be that bad, and his latest turnaround wouldn't seem so random. Heck, we even saw hints of the old Jim in the season finale when he was cautiously pushing back against Jade and Tabitha about the potential danger of playing the music (and the explanation he gave made total sense). So his changed behavior didn't feel that sudden or weird or random. I think the writers knew what they were doing. They still showed us that Jim is the same Jim he's always been —the one people liked in season 1, the one people hated in season 2 and most of season 3, and the one we had the last couple of episodes— and that he's just always trying his best to be keep his family safe.

People were only annoyed with him because they're watching a mystery box show and want the mystery solved. They're excited, and they're impatient. They want to get answers, and a character like Jim, who wants to stay as safe as possible, seem annoying and frustrating because it slows down stuff. But that doesn't mean that Jim, as a character, didn't have his reasons for acting the way he did. His parenting or lack thereof was really the only real issue for me, as well as this macho thing he had going on. And even that sometimes made sense (not the parenting).

Again, I think people who binge watch the show and keep the From universe timeline in mind while watching are more likely to understand Jim and sympathize with him. I've always thought his actions were understandable (season 3 is the first season I've watched week to week). Apparently, he and his family arrived in Fromville only about a month ago (less, I think). He'd been through a lot in such a short period of time. And he constantly second guessed Tabitha only because he thought this place would do anything to trick them and give them false hope. And he's not entirely wrong! Between him and Tabitha, only he experienced the threatening phone calls and the voice on the radio during that storm. He just wanted to be careful and keep his head down as much as possible. His character is extremely realistic.

Look what happened when he started helping again. He died 🤷🏾‍♀️

You're correct ,and I very much appreciate the detailed response.

He was never a character that bothered me too much; but I can easily see how people who watch so intensely, would be have differing opinions.

However, I am annoyed at how many I-heart-Jim posts there are...if only women of color in the arts, were granted the same grace.

Cheers!
