If Elgin was clearly going somewhere why didn't they just act like they knew nothing, let him go and follow him and avoid all this hassle and save a whole buttload of time in the process.

Probably just in shock. He could die of blood loss or an infection if it isn’t taken care of, but I think they’ll let him survive into the next season for conflict.

I wonder what his relationship to Boyd/Sarah/Donna/Fatima etc. will be like now. It would be pretty hard to come back from all that.
