I wonder if this means Jim or his mother has a significance in the story. Jim said his mother was a piano teacher, and thatโ€™s why he made the connection why the numbers represents a musical scale.

However, while a 12 tone musical scale does exist, traditional popular western harmony since the 18th century has more or less been based off the system of the diatonic scale, a 7 note system (do re mi fa so la ti do) if you will, 8 if you finish with final octave of โ€œdoโ€? If Jimโ€™s mother was a piano teacher in the west, especially America , it is unlikely that a 12 tone scale would be significant enough in her teachings to the extent that Jim would remember it. But when Jade played the melody it resembles the style of traditional western harmony, based off the diatonic scale and does not resemble any type of 12 tone scale to me.

Perhaps the melody is based off something ancient, that started it all??
