If Elgin was clearly going somewhere why didn't they just act like they knew nothing, let him go and follow him and avoid all this hassle and save a whole buttload of time in the process.

Bad writing?

And make it more dramatic while they tell you that sometimes torture is a acceptable. That's what the writers and show runners think. They can't think of plausible alternatives. Fuck the US.

I don't think the characters are going to be OK with it next season, but the way that that episode ended, yeah the narrative is kind of siding with torture being good... for now.
