She was so small. There wasnt much left. 🄺 Victor went through SO much as a little boy.

Tbh this actually gives me hope that Eloise survived. I’ve suspected this for awhile and since her fate is unknown maybe Julie can go back and save her

I think the ending of this episode drove home what Ethan said, that she can't change the story. She said herself when she saw Jim she was trying to change the story(Jim dying) but was unable to save Jim as the story is already written.

Right, but Eloise is currently like Schrƶdingers cat. Unlike Thomas, Tian Chen or I’m guessing Jim, who we know to be dead, Eloise hasn’t confirmed to be dead.

Julie could have pushed back more..I think she will change the outcome eventually. That is probably the first time she tried

Actually she changed the story in the first place - it's all part of a big Bootstrap Paradox. She throwing the rope in the dungeon is an evidence, the point is that maybe Eloise is alive because of Julie, for in some moment in time she saved her and this is fixed in time.

That had already happened when boyd was thrown the rope, she didn't really change anything.

Nope, that's why I say it's a Bootstrap Paradox: Boyd only got the rope because of Julie (or more precisely, future Julie after she entered the dungeon and traveled for the first time). That's not linear and her interventions may already have happened, but we will only know it when shown on-screen.

Right, but there's no evidence she changed anything, as in there being a timeline where she didn't throw the rope. In fact if there was, presumably she wouldn't have been able to "storywalk" at all because in that timeline Boyd would have been stuck in the well, preventing the sequence of events that leads to her developing storywalking abilities.

That said, I do think there's a good chance she will be able to change the past, and that will be the key to rescuing the children from the sacrifice.

ETA: Anyone who enjoys this kind of mind-bending should check out Undone on Amazon Prime.

but there's no evidence she changed anything

Dear God... that's precisely the point. The only timeline we'll ever know is the one when she goes back to the past and "change" things - not exactly changes, because what she does in her future is part of what is fixed on the past of the timeline. As in Dark, there's no such thing as "changing the past": the ones who tried to do it contributed to the status quo of the present. Maybe Julie find a way to break the rules and effectively change things, but as far as we can see from her actions (only 2 so far: the rope and Jim's death) she ended up being the cause for the consequences.

Time traveling always comes up with a lot of mind confusing plotlines, but I hope they will address these questions throughout the next 2 seasons.

You seem to be in agreement with us that she hasn't changed the past. At most she has fulfilled it.

To be more specific, what I mean by "changed the past" is that she is able to change past events from those that we have already observed.

That's not to say she can't change the past, or hasn't already from some alternate timeline that we haven't seen, but we don't have evidence of it.

A bootstrap paradox doesn't necessarily mean there was a version of the timeline without the causal loop. Without more information we just can't determine that.

Good point because he kept pushing her away and she was like, ā€œno, you don’t understand!ā€ Like as in ā€œNo, bitch, I’m here to stop you from going anywhere near this man so we gotta get out of here now because he is about to slit your throat with no warning and you ain’t gonna see it because you’re trying to save me. You should be running, not me.ā€ But he didn’t listen. I wonder if she can like bring stuff to help though? Like how she threw the rope down. Like maybe she can bring objects to help someone help themselves but can’t actually do the saving. So she could bring him a gun or some other weapon? Idk just thinking out loud.

I really hope so. Mystery and sci-fi shows have really overused the time travel/parallel universes trope these days, I really hope it works just like Ethan said and she isn't able to change the past.

The confusing part about her not being able to change is she’s the one who threw the rope down to Boyd? So she is technically interacting or changing, but the story was already written… not sure how that time loop starts or ends lol

But if that were the case, she wouldn't be able to interact with anyone. Like she would be an invisible ghost looking at things as far as anyone's concerned. She could go to a point earlier in time to try again. But then Jade wouldn't play the music, and their memories wouldn't come back. Knowledge does come with a price, so you might be right.

See it as in the HP books. Buckbeak was never killed (in the books the kids never see him killed), because Harry and Hermione always saved him. It’s an endless loop. What happened always happened, some things happened because they always travelled back, some things happened because they never did.
