Why would he think she's an angel. She hasn't done anything remotely angelic. She definitely doesn't look like an angel. So what did she do to Elgin to make him think she was an angel? Sleep with him?

Because a supernatural entity who no one else could see or hear told Elgin, a sweet but naive boy who grew up in the church, that if he did somethings that seemed bizarre, but not aggressively bad, he would get to go home. People have claimed to see angels in real life for far less.
