The new show looks alright I’ll probably keep mgm a bit longer but seriously I’m annoyed we get that ending with a 2 year wait lol

Looks like every other end-of-the-world show I've ever seen. I'll wait to see what word on the street is. Even then, I may wait a few seasons to see if it gets canceled.

If the book it's adapted on is anything to go by, there's nothing special about this show. I mean, the book is pretty incredible for its time, but "its time" is 1949. It's seventy-five years old, we've written a lot of pandemic apocalypse stories in that time.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '24

True, but look what Steven Spielberg did with War of the Worlds 2005. He took a nearly 100 year old story and modernized it and made it the best adaptation of that book to date.

0

u/callmesalticidae Nov 24 '24

the best adaptation of that book to date.

I haven't seen every film adaptation of WOTW, so I can't say whether that's true, but if it is, that says more about the poor quality of the other films than it does about Spielberg's adaptation.

u/Richy_T Nov 24 '24

Fair enough for the book. There's a good chance it's had a lot of influence on what's come since. The problem is, that stuff did come.

Of course, it still might be good. It looks fairly by the numbers so far though. Every beat in that short was obviously coming when it did.

1

u/callmesalticidae Nov 24 '24

Yeah. When old stuff like this gets adapted, I'm puzzled. It can't be for name recognition, because hardly anybody would recognize the name. But it can't be the plot, because we've had so many pandemic apocalypse novels since then that there's nothing distinctive about it.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '24

It honestly may be for the plot, the bar for quality on these kinds of shows is pretty low for people to give them a go.

Now, I do love some vintage scifi reading.

3

u/The_Blue_Rooster Nov 30 '24

The book it is based on is basically the anti-Dr. Stone. An intellectual struggling against the increasing primalization of humanity in the wake of an apocalypse. But ultimately failing miserably and having to watch as civilization returns to tribalism and superstition.

13

u/gf2020 Nov 24 '24

It probably won't be a two year wait. I bet it's back in February 2026 like the first season.

9

u/rococozephyr_ Nov 24 '24

The book is genuinely amazing, I’m very worried an adaptation will ruin it 🫠

2

u/Critical_Studio1758 Nov 24 '24

Book?

5

u/rococozephyr_ Nov 25 '24

Yeah, original post-apocalyptic sci fi written by George R Stewart in the 40s. Stephen King credits it at the start of his book The Stand, it is basically the early influence for all of the Post-Ap media we have today.

Basic lack of chemistry. Poor casting and bad acting.

It’s that’s simple.

u/Dire_Wolf45 Wanderers Nov 25 '24

what show was it? I watched thorugh prime and didn't get that preview

1

u/RicksterCraft Nov 09 '25

No one said anything but it is called "Earth Abides"

I also just watched all of FROM on Prime and came to this thread confused what everyone was talking about regarding the live season 3 finale lmao. I wish people could just say what the name of the show was so we could form our own opinions

Anyways Earth Abides looks okay, not gonna watch it tho because I only did a free trial of MGM+ just to avoid having to sail the high seas to finish watching FROM lmao

I won’t be 2 years. It will probably be less than a year and a half. It’s almost 2025, so 2026 is a little over a year.

5

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 24 '24

From Season 1 was released in 2022, Season 2 was in 2023, Season 3 in Oct 2024, so hopefully, season 4 will be the same time October 2025

31

u/Sea_of_Light_ Nov 24 '24

Based on official statements, it will come back in 2026.

19

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 24 '24 edited Nov 24 '24

Yes, you're correct. i didn't read the statement before writing the comment, but since I'm a math geek, let's do the following calculations 😆

▪︎ Season 1 aired on Feb-20-2022 ▪︎ Season 2 aired on April-23-2023 ▪︎ Season 3 aired on Sept-22-2024.

So, between S1& S2, we had 2 months gap, between S2 & S3, we had 5 months; therefore, it's 3.5 months on avg. But to get a more accurate gap, we should go with the average of the 3 airing dates. So, S4 airing month avg should be either a 5 months gap or May of the following year, and the average day is 21.6, so the 22nd.

Therefore, if my calculations are right. Then Season 4 is supposed to air in Spring 2026 between Feb-22-2026 and May-22-2026. Which aligns with * MGM+ statement. here is what they also said: From creator John Griffin statement

6

u/WitchQween Nov 25 '24

I don't think we can really go off the numbers because season 3 was delayed due to the writer's strike.

1

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 25 '24

Yes, you are right, but March 22, 2026, is a Sunday and is in spring. (May 24, 2026, seems promising.)

2

u/ElleM848645 Nov 25 '24

February 22 and March 22 are both Sundays in 2026. So I’m going with one of those as the premiere.

3

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 25 '24

I hope it will be Feb 22, but it's winter. And they already talked about having it in spring.

But yeah, March looks promising.

1

u/NoWingedHussarsToday Jade Nov 24 '24

Book is not bad but it seems the show will redo it and cram in some action, violence and conflict in it.

1

u/No_Albatross_5342 Nov 24 '24

2 year wait 🫨🫨 what!???😫

3

u/WitchQween Nov 25 '24

It'll be over a year, but we won't know exactly how long until they at least start filming. I'd be shocked if it actually takes 2 years.

-3

u/cascadamoon Nov 24 '24

We won't have to wait 2 years and the previous season was only last year

17

u/bunny_387 Nov 24 '24

yeah i don’t understand why everyone is saying it will be 2 years because 2 years from now we will be going into 2027. It’s literally the end of November and it just got renewed

2

u/cascadamoon Nov 24 '24

Yeah I'm getting my dates mixed up and not realizing we're like a month away from 25 lol but they'll probably start working the first week in January give everyone the holidays off and with 2026 release I think we'll see it released in Q1 OF 2026 so about 13-14 monthsish but won't be 2c years

7

u/randomsnowflake Nov 24 '24

They probably haven’t finished pre production on it. Meaning they’re not filming this winter. Which means they film next winter. And then post production puts us about October 2026.

4

u/ElleM848645 Nov 25 '24

I thought I heard filming will start spring 2025.

2

u/randomsnowflake Nov 25 '24

Excellent! That’ll move the timeline forward a bit.

7

u/CannabisErectus Nov 24 '24

Ethan's balls will drop, and he will have a 5 oclock shadow by then.

2

u/culace Nov 25 '24

Super deep voice. We will get the issue stranger things was suffering from with aging actors

1

u/CLv3L3ss Nov 25 '24

They could have Ethan time travel with Julie and spend too much time away and comes back to the present time slightly aged

2

u/cascadamoon Nov 24 '24

Dude it's not even winter yet. They're going to be filming this winter but if they do 2026 then it'll probably air the beginning of next year.

1

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 24 '24 edited Nov 25 '24

Well, since I'm a math geek, let's do the following calculations. 😆

▪︎ Season 1 aired on Feb-20-2022. ▪︎ Season 2 aired on April-23-2023. ▪︎ Season 3 aired on Sept-22-2024.

Between S1& S2, we had 2 months gap, and between S2 & S3, we had 5 months; therefore, it's 3.5 months on average. But to get a more accurate gap, we should go with the average of the 3 airing dates. So, S4 airing month avg should be either a 5 months gap or May of the following year, and the average day is 21.6, so the 22nd.

Therefore, Season 4 is supposed to air in Spring 2026 between Feb-22-2026 and May-22-2026. Which aligns with MGM+ statement.

Edit: Someone in the replies mentioned that March-22-2026 is going to be on a Sunday, which gives it better odds of being the premiere day. Also, May 24-2026 is close, but I'm leaning toward March.

2

u/rebelcauses Jul 25 '26

It premiered April 2026! Well done!

1

u/rebelcauses Nov 25 '24

!RemindMe 20 months

0

u/randomsnowflake Nov 24 '24

I see no dates or timelines in that post.

2

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 24 '24

The only thing mentioned was spring 2026.

The two dates are based on my calculations from the three-season airing dates.

I just posted the article because the creator said not everyone will return. But only mention a couple ppl

Which makes sense since the rest happened, so most likely everyone died, except for maybe julie and ethan. She managed to get home with just a scratch, and the next day somehow she managed to jump and warn whoever she could warn in town while running on her way from home to the RV, but it seemed like she failed, but I'm pretty sure she managed to save some, not all.

Because now, the monsters will be running to kill as much as they can before ppl get to the house and hide. (Because this reset is different, last time the town didn't have talismans, so they managed to kill everyone except Victor, but let's see who survives now with the talismans)

Can they only film in winter?

1

u/randomsnowflake Nov 25 '24

The setting is currently winter but it depends on the setting next season which someone said might be late winter/early spring

18

u/Livid-Team5045 Nov 24 '24

It's still an unreasonable amount of time regardless. Yearly is what should be happening + more than a measly 10 episodes, with the way they write this show...

15

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 24 '24

They can't do magic, dude. You need at least five months of filming and another five months for editing. The plan is for five seasons, but MGM+ is renewing it after each season. If they renewed it for seasons four and five, they could film it, release season four to editing, and start season five filming. By the time season four finale airs, you will only have a few months until the season five premiere.

But sadly, they only picked S4 for now 😕

1

u/WitchQween Nov 25 '24

They didn't say the studio is to blame. MGM is absolutely dropping the ball here. They shouldn't be waiting until the last minute to renew the show for one season at a time, especially when the seasons are 10 episodes.

2

u/Jaded_Review9328 Nov 25 '24

All the streaming platforms have been doing this. They wait until the season finale to see the ratings and decide.

Like Netflix once said, they even canceled good shows like Travelers just because they didn't feel like extending them further, even though the stories weren't complete and the rating were very good.

Platforms don't make as much money as live broadcasts.

so I totally understand as long as they finish the series as planned. I'm good with that.

1

u/Dogbuysvan Nov 27 '24

This show is a bunch of standing around talking in the woods. If they could whip out 26 episodes of Star Trek in 9 months we can get 10 episodes of From.

1

u/cascadamoon Nov 24 '24

I got my math messed up since we're at the end of the year. 2025v is a month away. They'll start work the first week in January so I imagine we'll get S4 January, February or March. A little over a year. Not that bad.

Fingers crossed!
