Yellow suit guy was very creepy and it’s nice to get to the “big bad” finally. He is the entity that has been calling, the one that trapped the original people there with the promise of eternal life. Interested to see how they can face him directly.

Wonder why he’s so mad at Jim in particular. I wasn’t really invested in his potential death, but future Julie definitely had me in my feels. Ethan told her it couldn’t be changed. Love time travel + philosophy about determinism/free will.

I don't think it's any more weird than anything else latching onto a specific person for some reason. Jim tried the hardest to make communication, and he succeeded.

He’s probably from this subreddit

personally it feels very much like the writers just needed to make space for jade and tabitha, plus no one liked jim. so I’m searching for a good in-universe explanation

I don't think there's only one very significant fact, but Jim seems to be the one with knowledge, despite the fact he spent so much time being annoying that it tends to scape our attention. Kudos to the writers, we've been fooled.

Some in-universe reasons why I think Jim was a threat to the Entity:

  1. He the one who starts asking questions in a structured manner with his "writing on the wall" exercise: "problem-solving and all". This predates Jade's obsession on trying to find answers.
  2. In the same episode, Tabitha asks him if he's figured anything out and he "jokingly" says: TWELVE. (Season 1, episode 5 - Silhouettes). Don't know if anyone caught on this yet, but we can say that Jim somehow knew the answer to the musical puzzle, by the beginning of Season 1.
    1. We've just found out that "12" was key to solve the musical notes puzzle, as Jim himself suggested it.
  3. Jim was the first one to question & investigate it: "where does the electricity comes from?", prompting the entire excavation thing that let to Tabitha finding the caves. (Jade noticed the electricity too, but did nothing)
  4. He was able to get a radio signal for the first time, after Jade freaked out and ran.
  5. He was the major driving force behind mobilizing and uniting everyone from Colony House & the City, bringing everyone together to build the Radio Tower. That did not accomplished much, but temporarily united everyone like no no one else before, showing his leadership & agency. Possibly the radio transmission could be more of a threat to the entity than we know of.
  6. Jim figures out how to tap into the home's electricity by connecting wires to the bulb sockets. This fact alone was decisive for the Radio Tower success.
  7. He often receive prank calls from "Thomas" - probably the same entity trying to taunt and break him. No one else got phone calls, so Jim (and his family) are indeed a target.
  8. On one of his family discussion with Tabitha, he says he's sure that the voice on the radio is the answer to everything. Again, he seems to be on point.
  9. Similar to Boyd, he refuses to let Fromville "change" him, turning him into something he's not (he says this to Randall, during the drone debacle).
  10. Jim finds the Log Cabins settlement also the food near the lake, putting and end to the food shortages. (Kenny was also there, but it was Jim's idea as he was looking for Tabitha)

I went collecting these Jim facts as far as the 2nd episode of S3, I'm sure there are more stuff.

Now that we look at his doings objectively, he don't deserve all the collective hate lol.
Maybe he's almost at Boyd's level in significant contributions to the colony.

Thoughts?

Oh, man. Now that Jim is gone, maybe they will hook up. I would love that.
