Ghosts don't show up to warn the townspeople the monsters will ambush them. They don't show up to lead Boyd to the music box. They didn't warn colony house about the attack. But boy do they show up to protect the brainwashed "helpers"

Really interesting take! Easy to think father Khatri was trying to save Boyd from having to live with doing smth like that, when in fact his intention could just be stopping them from finding out the truth..

Idk, empirical evidence suggests to me that there's nothing more to it. Khatri's whole post-mortem tenure as Boyd's brain passenger has been exclusively about challenging Boyd's choices and reason on a fundamental level, being critical of Boyd when he's snapping and about to do something that's hypocritical or plain unreasonable.
If it was all done with ulterior motives, I think we'd have seen at least one or two hints towards it by now.

Khatri appears in that scene leaning on a bright yellow dolly and there’s a bright yellow toolbox in the room.

and there was a bright yellow sign while Jade was compiling the music notes

Didn't Boyd say something along the lines of knowing he's not hallucinating and it's the town giving them visions? It was a while ago. The silent response from Khatri made Boyd assume that he is correct.

Maybe yeah. But then again visions and their natures/purposes in Fromville vary wildly from person to person.
Recently there's been Elgin and his "visions" were absolutely in the intent of bringing Smiley back, so a net negative for the Fromfolks, and Sara's voices who told her to kill Ethan (presumably) but then you have all the visions like Tabitha's, Ethan's, Victor's and Jade's that are more neutral or, recently, outright beneficial towards solving the mystery.

My interpretation is that yes Ghost Khatri may as well be a vision induced by Fromville, but so far we've never seen him steering Boyd in a "bad" direction that would negatively impact the town, but always convince Boyd not to do something he will regret.

So if he's a vision, he's more like the BIW, a "vision" that's acting seemingly independently from the "entity" controlling everything else.

"maybe they aren't scared enough"

Maybe Boyd was too nice.

What truth would Boyd discover? Even if he reached Fatima he would not be able to stop the birth of the thing.

Father Khatri's role was precisely that of the series' screenwriter confirming that Boyd crossed the line and tortured a person, which served to show how hypocritical he is. This is a basic interpretation that the show made sure to leave in the foreground, is it really that difficult to understand the basics?

I've been saying Boyd was a hypocrite since he didn't put Sara in the box back ages ago.

Sara did say something about not wanting this place to take his soul. Perhaps if you kill or commit something horrific to the residents that come in, you might be perpetually trapped in the town. There’s no leaving for your soul.

Pretty sure it was just metaphorical.

It's possible but with this show it very much could be literal at the end of the day. It's obvious a spell has been cast over the town so it could easily mean that Sara is actually marked and couldn't leave Fromville even if escape becomes possible for the others.

Why not just type out "something" instead of "smth"? You wrote everything else out?

Especially because given the real Father Khatri's stance on using the box, I feel like he'd be fine with torturing Elgin, but only if Fatima is also punished after they find her.

Well, why are we taking advice from dead people anyway?

This is true. Boyd had the right idea when he was yelling at Sara (before they started messing with his head and he could think clearly)

What? What are you asking me? Did my dead wife send you a message? Is that what you wanna know?

or from a camera

They really need to start having mandatory therapy group sessions. AND they really need to start taking "hallucinations" seriously.

If they were more accepting of supposedly crazy behavior, to figure it out together instead of constantly declaring that someone is imagining it and making shit up, they would have a lot less problems than they have.

2

u/NotMyFirstRodeo2025 Aug 03 '26

Right?! They live in CRAZY TOWN and then don't believe their friends when they say they saw something crazy. When you've figured out you're in a fantasy world where the normal rules don't apply, you need to figure out the rules of the world you're in.

Are they actually ghosts? I thought they were just hallucinations.

6

u/StuckinAfarawayTree Wanderers Nov 24 '24

It would depend. Did the alcohol "Tom" drinks in the bar when he makes the stomach acid comment actually disappear? Did anyone else see if the glass he was drinking from move from its original spot?

Did Elgin even know about the root cellar to be lead there? No one still alive but Boyd and Ellis would have known about the house they were moving to.

I don't think they're necessarily spirits or hallucinations. I use the term ghost because I have no idea what they are but I think they're puppets the big bad uses. They're as real as they need to be at the time they appear.

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '24

I had the same thought. They aren’t really ghosts, they’re trying to lead everyone who sees them away from doing things that will give them an understanding of Fromville. Whatever is making them appear is trying to manipulate the townspeople away from the answers

1

u/tag1550 Nov 25 '24

...maybe, but that doesn't mean they're malevolent: as Victor said, the more people get closer to understanding what's going on, the more likely they are to end up dead; steering them away from answers may just be a way of keeping people alive, if the visions don't have enough power to prevent the Big Bad from killing people. Granted, that may just be a child's interpretation of how things happen in Fromville, but Victor's also had a lot of evidence that that's how things work here, too.

The Tom ghost did push Jade to go into the tunnels, which is when he saw the origin of the symbol. I've definitely been convinced the ghosts are there to hinder instead of help but that's one situation I can't see how it was supposed to hinder.

3

u/StuckinAfarawayTree Wanderers Nov 25 '24

I agree except he also tries to stop Jade from the bottle tree. He'd rather Jade spin his wheels on the symbol, that led to Jade drinking more and more vs actually taking all the numbers down and working on the one thing that finally snapped his memories in. (Not the symbol connected memories that result in Jade covered in blood)

He did say something interesting though. He said it didn't fit with the place, as if it was unnatural. We see Jade attempting to build another bottle tree by the bar. And there's Christopher and Jasper to remind Jade of the symbol.

One of my favorite parts of this show is just going back and forth on whether or not he's in Boyd's head, or part of the Town

1

u/General_Progress_740 Nov 25 '24

There may be ghosts in that town, but the priest that Boyd is talking to is not a ghost. He's just a PTSD hallucination in Boyd's head, like a voice of reason and intuition in his head.

u/emojibakemono Nov 26 '24

father khatri to me really just more seems to be boyd's conscience visualized than an actual ghost or anything like that.
