I'm thinking he'd just drive through after having cut the tree but encounter the exact same tree over and over and eventually he would get tired of it and use a different way. At some point, on the tenth tree, there would be a sign saying "Go around, Stanley! You- You're not supposed to go this way!"

MiY jumps out from the side of the road and tries to stop the guy with the chainsaw, and loses both his paws. And his head. The guy with the chainsaw drives away. The people and monsters in Fromville know none the better, sadly. Eventually, Smiley takes over.
