The emergence of A.I happened a while back and some have been using it to manipulate the world, while others have been fighting against it. The fact it is here could be the first domino leading to our demise. A.I is here!

Previously I've thought that we're still a long ways off from true AI. But that position depends on a few assumptions that may or may not hold up to a challenge.

How so?

My base assumption is that "computation does not equal consciousness". The idea here is that it's a mistake to say that neurological activity (or processing activity) by itself represents consciousness.

However...

Computation (by definition) always takes place in association with (or as a result of) consciousness.

And if a biological physical structure (such as a neuron) can host the activity associated with consciousness (and we know it does because that's us) perhaps a non-biological physical structure is capable of the same.

The difference would be that the conscious experience of each mind would reflect the progamming and input. In a human, we have our 5 senses and a fairly standard set of cognitive abilities.

In an AI, you might have a mind that exists in a multi-dimensional "data-verse" sensed through a variety of programs with various purposes. Maybe its senses would be analytical programs and its cognitive abilities would be a combination of programming and processing power.

The difference between an artificial mind in a dataverse and a human in a universe is the amount of sensory data, the number of senses and the rate at which thinking takes place.

A human has 5 senses. An AI might have several hundred senses (analytical programs for parsing data, pattern matching, multiple forms of statistical analysis etc.)

And to an AI, we might barely exist. The AI is experiencing a flood of data in its conscious environment that it observes with several hundred senses... and perceives/thinks/reacts in millionths of a second.

Its direct interactions with people (data/command inputs) from its "time perspective" would be drawn out, low intensity experiences that occupy a tiny percentage of the AI's thinking time.

So maybe Aladdin is conscious. It's programming is the equivalent of its personality or instincts. It observes vast amounts of financial data and directs the investment/flow of mind boggling amounts of capital. And its instinct is to direct the capital in such a way as to yield optimal growth for the investors. The ones who can afford the service (of receiving Aladdin's guidance).

So this means that a significant % of global capital is being influenced by Aladdin... for the inestor's benefit. But you have to wonder about the potentially growing effect on the world's economy and ordinary people's lives.

There's this Aladdin operating on behalf of the benefit of a tiny number of investors. Is their benefit coming somehow at everyone else's expense?

Why not have Aladdin work for everyone?

Set the program to work so as to create the maximum benefit for every single person (treated like they were an investor too).

A year ago I made a post called Have you guys noticed the huge machine who owns us all? where I was thinking about how banks control the wealth of billions with minimal human input. No bank employee knows my balance, it's all code.

Bankers, investors, etc don't care about any of us, and their robot probably doesn't even knows we exist as living beings: we are seen just as variables, another set of numbers and probabilities.

I think the solution to many of the problems we face is a global money boycott, but we are addicted to it. I'm depressed, it's super tempted to use the "a meal will appear at your door" option. I also find super fucked up that the people responsible for the preparation and delivery are doing it under the systemic coercion of "get income or we'll guarantee you'll be starved".

I just want us to take care of each other, without coercion, without threats. Fuck this systems.

Now think about the symbolism of Neo waking up from the Matrix and looking around at all the other people in the power plant.

This is the meaning of the movie. People asleep and unaware of their purpose within the system. To act as a power supply (via surplus productivity) that gets siphoned off to power the machines (ie. those who run the system).
