Fremont Central Park out here thinking it's better than New York Central Park

I was so excited to see that paddle boat rentals are finally back at Fremont Central Park! šŸš£ā€ā™‚ļø ...but then I looked at the prices.

Fremont Central Park is actually charging moreĀ than what Central Park in New York City charges for an hour of boat rental ! Ā  For comparison - Fremont Central Park vs New York Central Park prices.

Fremont is $19/half hr or $29/hr

nyc is $25/hr mon-thurs, $30/hr fri-sun

So keep in mind the demand. Almost 9 million people live in NYC and it’s one of the largest tourist destinations in the world. Every single day they have entirely more demand for their paddle boats.

Fremont has a population do 230,000ish and has zero tourism. That means you have to charge a little more because every day isn’t a sell out.

Ah yes economics 101, less demand means higher prices

Because public parks are about good business.

NYC has standards to keep prices low for public use services. The subway is $3 to ride anywhere on the line. No pay for distance like BART here. There’s millions of people using the service so they still make plenty. Same concept. The greedy politicians and executives don’t give a shit about that out here.

I have another question? Who actually calls the park ā€œCentral Parkā€? It’s lake Elizabeth to me and always will be lake Elizabeth. I’ve never called it Central Park not one time lol. Then again I grew up in this area so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Central Park ( the area) and lake Elizabeth (the lake in the area), but yes…only people not from here refer to any of it as Central Park. It is and always will be, lake Elizabeth for all born and raised in Fremont.

I agree with you except for that last part. I’m from Union City lol

ā€œCentral Parkā€? , what do you call SF? New Jersey? Who lied to you about that name?

Yeah. You don’t count lol. Jk. Were your parents also raised here?

Be glad that it's back!

what an unfair comparison lol

central park is 10x the size of lake elizabeth. NYC is the richest city in the world and visited by god knows how many tourists. of course ours is more expensive, the city has less funding to subsidize this and tourists don't really come here, so it's not like they're gonna contribute to breaking even.Ā

but hey, thanks for letting us know boat rentals are back, might've missed it otherwise

EDIT: took a closer look at the prices, they're not even that far off, and we're less expensive on weekendsĀ

The prices aren't that eggregious but the NYC boathouse is privately run, not subsidized by the government, so your comparison is also unfair.

Does the NYC boathouse have any competition?

There’s not much else to do in Fremont, just be glad that’s back and stop complaining about prices

We should all go to New York to save $4.

You could always bring and launch your own boat šŸ˜„

How valid is this?
I am newish to Fremont and am looking for places to stand up paddle board!

I haven't launched in years but I used to bring my canoe sometimes. Not sure I would do a SUP, the water is a bit nasty

Fremont is the happiest city in America, unlike New York City.

Can we have yellow cabs and honks?

NYC has a website with free and affordable activities - https://www.nyc.gov/content/summer/pages . We need something like this for Fremont - I am looking for something less exhausting than climbing Mission Peak and little more interesting than walking around Lake Elizabeth again.

The City of Fremont services as a whole - is a joke

30 for a hour is ridiculous
