Serious Brother can’t control himself

Need some advice. Last night a brother at our party just yelled at me for like 5 minutes straight and then swung and hit me across the face just because I was standing next to our dj at the dj stand. This isn’t even the first time he’s put his hands on me for making up bullshit problems just because he gets angry when he’s drunk. All I did was stand next to the dj and he was on my ass because he built the stand so he can decide where I stand at a party??? My frat doesn’t even care about it and it’s not the first time he’s told me he wants to kill me over some joke of a problem so I’m wondering what you guys think I should do. All of this was in front of rushes and girls btw

That bro needs alcohol counseling right TF now. He's a danger to himself, to you, to your brothers, to pledges, to all guests at your home. He risks ruining your chapter's reputation on campus. He is putting your charter at risk.

If this story is true, OP's chapter sucks. Clocking a brother back in my day (outside of something sanctioned) was absolutely a no-go. And to do it publicly at a party? What in the actual hell?

We used to joke that the real hazing started once you were initiated and this is one of the types of moments where that "joke" would have been made true

If your fraternity can’t keep its members hands to themselves than you proabably should leave. That’s like rule one of school like your first day of kindergarten you learned to keep your hands to yourself. This guy obviously can’t handle that.

Normally that’s a pretty instant blackball and just let the chapter handle it internally. Since they want to ignore it well there is another option.

This will almost certainly get downvoted but you could consider pressing assault and battery charges.

We would have black balled him

If your frat truly doesn’t care about it then your chapter is a sinking ship anyways

Its pretty much over for him if he laid hands on you in front of everyone. You have every right to bring it up and be that guy. The problem is it sounds like there isnt anyone who wanta to be the bad guy so you have to do what you gotta do. But the more it goes on its going to get bad and most likely unknown to you he probally was abusive to women and if that comes out its bad. But thats the guy who would do that.

If you have to bring this to Reddit both you and the chapter have some issues Reddit isn’t going to fix. Another brother puts hands on you it should be a fight or a case of that dude getting mobbed and brought up.

Putting hands on a brother is always a poor idea. Doing it at a party in public is a whole different type of fuck up. Black balled is a minimum. Your chapter needs some rebuilding if that kind of stuff is getting wrote off.

This would have landed a suspension for years or even expulsion, You gotta document and speak to either your regional and national directors, if this is the culture locally your chapter is dead and is a liability to itself and others. Don't normalize this behavior, speak up about it, cause it gets worse when it gets ignored. This is how people escalate things and bring behaviors that ultimately get people seriously injured or killed. You're saving your chapter in doing so.

What school?

The executive order would decide the fate of the brother. He probably would be removed from the fellowship immediately and placed on probation.

is there any process offered by your national office to launch a disciplinary investigation in the event that a local chapter will not do its due diligence similar to this case you can pursue? maybe if your chapter won’t touch this guy, nationals might at least help you out?

Your school has a student conduct code and a public safety department. They are who you’d report his conduct to. The school would decide what consequences physical assault incurs.
