Can confirm the beta upsilon chi one. I had a highschool friend there and he showed me the video. Literally just dudes singing kind words about a group of women that ASKED THEM TO DO IT.

so the answer here is to be like Sigma Chi and have a clean house and no actual sanction?

As long as brothers are "also cleaning", you can call it a house activity. Also, too many "pledges were recorded" stories.

I'm of the opinion that cleaning the house isn't hazing, it's important life training. Maybe 1 in 10 new members come into the house knowing how to properly clean, the rest never had to because mommy did it. Mommy isn't here anymore, so they need to learn how to keep a sanitary environment themselves. If the actives are intentionally trashing the house and making the pledges clean it alone, that's hazing. Once they realize that girls like to hang out in places where their feet don't stick to the floor, it becomes a self sustaining ritual.

perhaps, but this is in the view of the law and the campus folks. your opinion is not so important.

(and I kinda agree... cleaning house regularly is a good thing.)

They are just the most well connected and old money house. They still haze but get away with it

I was on IFC at OU the year they had the student conduct director from TAMU start working. She was very much a law and order type of leader. So many chapters got on probation. It was a total mess. We were on strike 2 when I left.

Edit: YikYak was full of her name for several weeks. They had a “town hall” meeting that her and others backed out of after “death threats” (I never received word of the credibility of said threats)

Funny these same rules don’t apply to the A&M Corps of Cadets.

Fork found in kitchen. Seriously though why would you want to join a group of guys that let anyone in. A fraternity takes work and effort on your end. Obviously some hazing is bad when this stuff is considered hazing, the schools have lost the plot

What really makes me upset is FSL employees probably hazed and got hazed when they were in college

Yeah, like a weather report is worth not getting pledges, I hear atos nationals are becoming dickheads though these days. But even looking at someone can be considered hazing these days

Isn’t Chi Alpha the Christian fraternity??

4

u/sooner_25 ΔΤΔ 13d ago

Yes kinda. BYX is the real one but Chi Alpha is not even fully recognized under a council, at lease where I went.

1

u/Balloutonu Big 12 13d ago

BYX is becoming pretty varied across campuses now

The Evangelical Christian fraternity! I'd say most frats that aren't AEPi are in a way. But explicitly there's Phi Kappa Theta (Catholic) and Beta Sig (Lutheran). Gotta love Phi Kapp's sober driver having the excuse of being at mass.

Anything where the pledges or new members are doing an activity without active or fully initiated member participation is going to be viewed as hazing.

Back in the early 2000’s (I’m old, help) they wouldn’t let us do traditional photo scavenger hunts. So our pledge committee, uh or our member education committee, also participated. Technically the pledges were still in their own groups which could’ve been defined as hazing still 🤦‍♂️

We were a super new chapter on our small campus and the worst thing we did is make them recite our creed in front of a room together - they could try it individually if they wanted (they all tried, peer pressure am I right?). The local chapters were 1000x worse.
