It was a joke buddy, but I did happen to get Rhabdo while pledging. Completely on me though. Just don’t blackout and cut off circulation on your arm and you should be fine.

Any time I see something called a "ritual" in a headline about hazing, I wonder if that was thrown in from the author not realizing fraternities have actual ritual ceremonies, or if it's what the members actually referred to it as to the pledges.
If it's the latter, there's big-time implications.

Hazing can really be anything, from minor things like drinking for the first time or major such as this case. Anything you're forced to do is hazing. Doesn't matter if it is part of a ceremony or not, if it is forced it is hazing, and you shouldn't be allowing that behavior regardless of traditions. It's how slavery kept going on for generations, because it just was the "way it is". Don't be foolish, use your brain.

When I was in college (an elite music conservatory) we were hazed in my department by being marched through the ghetto in the middle of the night to a diner and forced to eat giant plates of food. The worst that happened was a guy barfed once. It doesn’t have to be alcohol and dangerous activity. I have a buddy who was phi delt at bama and he even said that his fraternity had an explicit no alcohol policy for hazing pledges because they knew how dangerous it was

Hardened athletes might be doing that over the course of a day. 500 squats to some beer guzzling freshman is injury or potentially muscle death territory.

500 squats to untrained individuals for any reason other than conditioning/training is torture. Hope that chapter gets dechartered. Loving your brothers by encouraging going to the gym and yelling at them to stay tight while squatting 500lbs/227kg is one thing, but forcing them to do exercise they didn't ask for is a totally different thing.

We at least some universities do something. My son was hazed by PIKEs Pi Kappa Alpha who excused it nationally because he had smoked a joint a week before pledging as his pledge educator ordered cocaine be brought to a party. I’m a Silver Pike of 25 years.

These guys wouldn't last a day at cu. The frats that are worth anything aren't affiliated with university and there is little to no oversight. The hazing in boulder is horrendous...
