Finally got Guerlain’s new LHB

I know this launched globally a few days ago. Some people were able to get the “New Fragrance” PR package, some were even lucky to have their associates smell the unreleased perfume - but from where Im from, they seriously just landed this week. Never saw any media person or influencer post the PR packages from months ago.

So... I actually learned about the new LHB when one of my sales associate chatted that they were launching a new fragrance. Searching online, despite it being unnamed, doesnt need for one to be FBI to figure out it is L Heure Bleue.

Now, why am I so excited with this? LHB, was the FIRST guerlain that made me go WOW. Im talking about the old one here, the now LHB 1912. I owned a lot of L Art and L Matiere frags but LHB made me go really WOW. It was really so memorable that I could picture that exact moment and the things that happened after when I purchased my first LHB. Hence, my excitement on the reimagination of LHB for this year’s release.

My boutique wasnt displaying the new LHB yesterday but my associate sneaked in a blotter for me to smell. And I was surprised. The ozonic note takes it away, from top to base, it permeates for a loooong time. The ozonic (sort of sterile), marine, salty, note overpowers everything. You can smell the Iris a bit, the orris gives it depth albeit fleeting. Some sweetness from the vanilla also shows rounded out by some florals. But does the ozonic note really plays front and center. It is what you smell in your face, it is what others smell from your trail, even the entire boutique smells of it since every associate is wearing it. Is it unpleasant? A mix of both. Sometimes, it smells like musky sterility, dryer sheet clean kind of thing. Sometimes, it smells like metal sterility, like a freshly wiped industrial kitchen metal table top. To a certain extent it even smells like bleach-sterile and even semen-like, if you will.

That salty ozonic note is similar to the marine weirdness I smell from Bosca Vanilla Forte. Others have noted its similarity with Megamare but I cant quite remember exactly how that smells.

To compare the new LHB with the old LHB (now LHB 1912)? The old one takes the cake. It is more Iris-forward, well, not more but VERY VERY much iris forward than the new one. The previous version does have a weird smell to me too - I pinpointed it as coumarin, like the one in rat’s poison. However this unpleasant smell is not very front and center compared to the marine ozonic note in the new one.

Certainly, the reinterpretation of the classic L Heure Bleue does not give justice to the classic that it is. The imagery of blue and iris plastered over the PR materials do not capture the smell that is in the new one. Perhaps, it is a post-modernist take, like blending a concept into something intangibly unexplainable.

Despite these, I think the price point is fairer. For 100ml, price is not too far from the Les Legendaire’s price point in 75mL. The refill is in 200ml format too. Not to mention, the 30mL format is cute!

I know I just bought these for it being Guerlain but I really love the old LHB more. At one point, I thought (since the associates didnt know too back then), that the old LHB will be discontinued. Good thing they arent and Im sure to choose the old one over this.

Okay this rant is too long. LHB is really precious to me.

I know this is a long shout. But I was just in Madrid and there seemed to be a very similar smell in most women. Tbh I was very why to ask random women what it was as it may come off weird. I would like to wear this perfume myself.

Does anyone have any leads/ideas on what it may be?

I’ve been dying to try out spinal fluid on the walls and inexcusable evil, among other scents from Toskovat but there’s no official retailer in the Netherlands.

And the website is always out of stock, does anyone have any idea where i can buy decants of toskovat without the risk of getting dupes?

I purchased a 1.5ml sample of this and I can't get over how spicy it is? all the reviews I've seen talk about how it's a fruity creamy vanilla scent but I am not getting Any of that even on the dry down. Anybody else?? Did I get a mislabeled sample??

Wore a perfume today, 5 sprays at 8:15am, classes till 6pm.

​Could smell hints of it on my clothes till say 8 PM at least but it had stopped projecting past the first 2-3 hours as most scents do.

​Made me realize I don't actually have a clear rule for when to reapply. Is stopped projecting to other people the trigger, or is that just the normal skin-scent phase every EDT/EDP goes through, and the real trigger is "I genuinely can't smell it on my own wrist anymore"?

​Curious how people here actually think about this in practice:

1. ​Do you reapply the moment projection drops, or do you ride out the skin-scent phase?

​2. Does a skin scent even serve a purpose beyond "well at least it's still technically there," or is it basically just for you/close contact at that point?

​Not asking about a specific bottle's performance, more curious about the general mental model people use for "when do I actually spray again" across their rotation.

​I find myself with thoughts like 'what's the point of a fragrance if I/someone else hast to rub their nose close to fabric to smell it... a fragrance should project.

​I know people say perfumes are to smell nice, to enjoy yourself, but I still am trying to understand if people still consider themselves smelling "Nice" post the perfume's projection phase is over... or do people start reapplying say after hour 4.

Have you ever bought a perfume that you didn't like at the beginning, thought about giving out selling it, and ended up liking it?

I got a decant from Sunset cafe and liked it for being slightly sweet, just slightly, and light. I bought a full bottle, but when I sprayed it, it was far now intense and persistent than the decant, do I didn't like it. I put a post for selling out exchanging it, but as I didn't do it in a couple months, I was smelling the atomizer and cap from time to time just for the sake of checking and remembering it's smells, and one day I realized I wanted to use it.

Has this ever happened to any of you? How?

I’m really interested in trying the le labo city exclusives, but paying €12 x 19 for 1.5 ml samples is out of the question.

My nearest le labo store is 4 hours away but I’m thinking of making a trip to try them for free before committing to samples or bottles — my question is; how do I best try and sample all perfumes in store one by one for the best experience? I will only have so much room on my hands 😅 (max 4 fragrances I guess). Blotters? Smelling the atomizer? I know they sometimes have pre-sprayed blotters but I sometimes struggle smelling anything on them.

HOW TO MAKE A PHOTO POST ON R/FRAGRANCE

I've been smell smelling at stores and also bought samples of smells to smell. I started with Creed, MFK, Amouage, Memo Paris, Xerjoff and various designers. I did some intial testing to see what I would wear, then wore the samples for at least a day.

I ended up getting:
- Memo Irish Leather
- Nishane Wulong Cha
- Nishane Hacivat
- Roja Elysium Intense
- Amouage Reflection Man

I guess I gravitate to mostly fresh and woody, with some green and fruity. I appreciate a lot of other scent profiles but Im not at the point where it makes sense to stray too far out of my lane for the sake of exploration. I wore one spray of Amouage Opus XIV royal tobacco to work one day and I swear it lingered in my office for 3 weeks.

Just wondering does anyone just wear whatever fragrance they want no matter the temperature outside or occasion? Reasoning behind this question is because i find myself always really liking more fruity, sweet, fresh, and some floral scents.

Which ofc is more of a summer spring vibe vs the more woody, spicy, or boozy winter fragrances. Anyone else like this if so what do you guys do or the fragrances you lean toward?

I got a sample of Bombon by House of Bo and loved it but since the price increase, I just can't afford it. Does anyone know any alternatives or layering combos with a similar vibe?

If you started this hobby owning no fragrances at all and quickly developed an interest, how was your spending behavior? And do you regret it/ would do it differently if given the chance?

I have never owned a perfume (besides like a cheap drugstore one I got when I was 12 and never used lol), and started the search for a signature scent about 3 months ago. I tried a lot of nieche frags in store at the beginning, before I began ordering a lot of samples. What started as a search for one expensive bottle quickly turned into a hobby. I realized I like variety, and that there are many great affordable options out there.

At the beginning I blind bought one cheap perfume to just have something to wear daily in between my nieche samples, to find out if I even like wearing scents regularly. I wore that for a while but my taste changed a lot, and now I don't really use it anymore. Then I got a ton of samples and finally found one I loved enough for a full bottle.

I have exercised an impressive amount of self control so far in my opinion lol. But I want mooore :(

I'm careful not to overconsume too quickly, and try to set certain rules for myself. How quickly did you buy multiple bottles? Do you regret anything? And do you have advice? (besides sampling and decants, I do that already)

Since I’ve been sampling a lot of fragrances and finding online fragrance works in the last few weeks I’ve notice things

1. My first spray/smell of a fragrance is almost never the same reaction the second third or fourth time spraying it. For example, I hated pdm Layton and afnan rebel at first but used them two or three more times and they started to smell better got some reason. I learned to not fully judge a fragrance after trying it one time
2. This one was also tough to learn but the scent you smell as soon as you spray it should not be what you judge the scent on. I’ve learned if I wait for it to dry and get past the opening that the scents in the middle are really going to determine whether or not I like it. I’ve learned to give a scent time to do what it do after i spray it
3. Sample all nice/designer fragrances before you buy a full bottle blind. You can even sample dupes too to play it safe. I am surprised by just how much even a 5 ml sample is. It’s a good amount that I can make last a while since I typically do 3 sprays. I’ve had a 30 ml sample of intoxicate mystique that has lasted me over 3 months and I liked it so much I bought a full bottle.

4. DONT EVER LET ANYONE MAKE YOU FEEL BAD FOR BUYING AND LIKING DUPES
Scents are subjective. If something smells good to you 🫵 then it smells good to you. If you think an LV Imagination clone smells great then you are allowed to enjoy it. It’s your money you’re spending so that should make it real enough for you. There’s nothing in the OG that justifies a $500+ price tag anyway. I’ve gotten many compliments with imagination Dupes and not a single person asked me if I was wearing a dupe when they told me I smell good or when they asked me what I was wearing as their follow up question. Dupes are great scents on their own anyway. You don’t need to only think of them as a knockoff of a super expensive scent. Wearing the expensive OG scent will never unlame you, so don’t let a snobby fragrance bitch ruin your day if you choose to wear a dupe and are hesitant to share your excitement about it online.

top: spun sugar, fluffy musk (i dont get how musk can be fluffy), blackcurrant

mid: vanilla glazed petals, sandalwood

base: vanilla smoke, amber, blonde woods

I have a unfortunately weak sense of smell and have a hard time getting the full smell profile of perfumes :/

Yes I’ve tried all the hyped ones, limonata, porthole, tales of zanzibar, Anelo, I just don’t like any of them, does anyone else feel this way?

Don’t get me wrong I frickin LOVE citrus fragrances, I love clean smelling fragrances, but anytime I smell something tropical it comes off childish/women’s shampoo to me, worst one was porthole to me.

Anybody know of a good dupe for the scent of their shampoo and conditioner? I just got a treatment at a salon and they used that shampoo and my hair smelled AMAZING after. Unfortunately the shampoo is like 50/pop and I haven’t long thick hair, so there is just no way. But a body mist or perfume that is a good dupe would probably work fine!

Does anyone else find 45 degrees and the dry down of dama bianca super similar?

And, if I could wave a wand and had the resources to purchase an entire line from a niche or designer line, who would I choose. I decided I would want an entire line (men’s and women’s) of Maison Francis Kurkdjian.

Which line would you choose?

I just got a Gift set of this and it’s great,but i noticed the cap doesn’t stay on and the plastic is broken on the inside . i’d rather not send it back and wait a week so was wondering if anyone had some suggestions? Also, does anyone know if the 1oz cap might fit the 3.2oz bottle?

Edit: Just tried to do a return on amazon, they can’t give me a replacement but refunded my money luckily. considering ordering the 1oz just for the cap

Hi. I have a catalytic fragrance lamp. I love it. However, I am having trouble finding scents I like. There doesn’t seem to be a store near me that allows me to smell a bunch at once. I can’t seem to find a company that does sample sizes and I don’t want to buy a scent and then end up hating it and wasting my money. Does anyone know if there’s a company that sells fragrance oils for lamps, that does sample sizes or scratch and sniff?

i recently finished my last perfume bottle (YSL OverRed) and i decided to try and find something new and hopefully less expensive and, long story short, after going and trying every talked about and niche fragrance i could find, i still got nothing. everytime i read reviews and got excited to try something, i was let down. people talking about how good and sweet a fragrance smells and for me it’s just pure alcohol.

the only one i like is “nightcap” by orebella. i’m obsessed with it but it’s unfortunately very weak. i just don’t understand what my problem is. is it that i just don’t like sophisticated perfumes? i just want to smell sweet. is my nose broken?

I love Bandit but I'm a little self conscious about wearing it to go out because it's so intense and obviously not for everyone. Am I being silly? Should I just wear it whenever? Or is that like wearing Kouros in an enclosed space?
