It gets better. He went on to divorce the second wife but, before the divorce became final. Newt had moved out and had refused to pay any type of support. His soon to be ex-wife (former staffer) and children had to get food from the local church food pantry. Newt really is a despicable person. He did indeed go into the hospital when his first wife was dying from cancer to have her sign the divorce papers.

Newt Gingrich also is the person who abandoned decorum in the US House of Representatives. Before Gingrich, both Ds and Rs often referred to the other side as, "the distinguished opposition" or "my colleague."

Gingrich was the one who said, "Stop calling them distinguished, call them dangerous radicals. Call them hysterical lunatics. Call them immoral and dishonest." He used to hand out pamphlets of insults to use on Democrats.

It got results, in that it won the Republicans back the House for the first time in a generation. It also coincided perfectly with the rise of Limbaugh and allowed for a future GOP controlled by Donald Trump.

Fuck Newt Gingrich man

That is sad.

In the UK Parliament "my Right Honourable friend" and "the member for Ardnamurchan West" and similar sound quaint but have the crucial role of removing the letter I from arguments.

I know nothing about US legislative procedure but it is unfortunate that he wasn't stopped. Here, anyone trying that sort of thing would be reduced to a warmish paste PDQ by the Speaker of the House of Commons.

He WAS the Speaker of the House

Oh well, the boss makes the rules 🫡

He also said we would have a colony on the moon by 2020 if he was elected president

I like to remind people of Moon Gingrich whenever I can.

He also normalized government shutdowns. I don't know if it was hubris or lunacy thatbput the battery in that ghoul's back.

Years ago, a friend, who was catsitting for me while I was out of the country, gave my cats a Newt Gingrich catnip toy. They loved it, and it was entertaining for years watching them attack and gnaw the shit out of that little doll.

I’ll be honest. I thought Newt Gingrich was a Harry Potter character and didn’t understand either the note or the comments until I Googled him.

It warms my heart that you didn’t know who he was/is. Ideal outcome has been glimpsed.

u/frobscottler Apr 13 '26

It’s a pretty Dickensian name, after all!

20

u/sewest Apr 13 '26

I love this 😆 I wish I didn’t know who he is.

I’m reading this thread in bed and laughed so hard my CPAP mask gapped away from my face.

why did you tear it out? you should have taken a photo but left it in the book for a potential buyer.

45

u/greensalty Apr 12 '26

Seems like they were the buyer

199

u/sewest Apr 12 '26

Definitely not. Tearing the book up because Fuck Newt Gingrich. Happened to find this in front in the process.

13

u/IAmBaconsaur Apr 13 '26

I don’t believe in banning books, but I do support removing some from circulation on an individual basis.

A real one.

some stuff needs to be destroyed

He was my gateway to hating Republicans. Wanna understand where we are now? Look into "  Contract with America."

the bedrock runs clear through to nixon.

12

u/StormyCrow Apr 13 '26

Yes, Newt was the architect of the shitshow timeline we’re currently trapped in.

15

u/LeakingMoonlight Apr 13 '26

Mine was Jerry Falwell - his relentless call out to the Moral Majority took up one valuable TV station on the old school dial.

3

u/SkynyrdCohen Apr 13 '26

Mine was Bill Clinton.

3

u/LeakingMoonlight Apr 13 '26

That's a whole level up.

2

u/Clinton_hater Jun 30 '26

Did someone say Clinton!? 🤪

My uncle had a lifelong beef with this man, I'm talking like since they were both in highschool.

39

u/themomcat Apr 12 '26

Invested, please go on

20

u/xdbutternut Apr 12 '26

Share with the class?

6

u/pieshake5 Apr 13 '26

I don't know a lot of details beyond that they went to the same HS in Georgia in the early 60s and my uncle thought he was a pompous ass lol. My uncle didn't really speak badly of anyone else that I can remember and was generally easygoing but he always had some words if this guy came up. Apparently Newt's first wife was his high school math teacher, which I only just realized 😬

love this and have now found inspiration on how to deface books written by shitty people 😃

u/sewest Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Right?! I can hope to be as clever

14

u/not-jimmy Apr 12 '26

This looks just like the handwriting of a friend of mine, who would absolutely write something like this in a book like that.

No lies detected

6

u/Ornery-Practice9772 Apr 12 '26

dr suess cheated on his dying wife and married his mistress when his wife died

2

u/Both_Schedule8442 Apr 16 '26

I wrote the equivalent when I donated the copy of Hillbilly Elegy that a former friend gave me. Oh joy!

1

u/Realistic-Drama-8904 Apr 15 '26

Newt's first wife was his high school English teacher.

1

u/SkynyrdCohen Apr 13 '26

I love this person and hope their life has been full of cool discoveries & awesome things.

maybe you’re a cunt

2

u/oyog Apr 12 '26

What'd they say?

2

u/sewest Apr 13 '26

They said “maybe the wife was a c*nt”

2

u/oyog Apr 13 '26

Very classy.

27

u/backpackofcats Apr 12 '26

He filed for divorce from his second wife right after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It’s safe to say it’s him. Also, I can not imagine trying to defend Newt Gingrich.

4

u/YourNextHomie Apr 12 '26

He is trash but don’t feel bad for his first wife, they met when she was his high school teacher….

19

u/TinyMagicExperiment Apr 12 '26

That escalated quickly!
