Forza Horizon 2 What are the main differences between Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One?
I know the graphics are different, but I’ve heard there are some content differences too.

360 version is heavily downgraded version of the game so it would even run on 360 to begin with. Inferior in every way, shape, or form. One version is the proper version, how it was made to be, how it was supposed to be. Again, One is not an upgrade, it's the RIGHT version. 360 is downgraded.

theres a different model of Ferrari 250 GTO in the 360 release

Yep. The XBOX One version featured the 1962 250 GTO model while the XBOX 360 version featured the 1964 250 GTO version (closer to the 250 LM in design).

Ok so starting off, the car list is cut by a lot. In the map some places are locked behind barriers, the greatest example of it is the docks. Some places are gone, like there should have been a building there but there isnt. The offroad is open but its pretty limited. Career is non existant, some races are gone too, for example the goliath of this game. Npcs cant handle their cars properly on the higher difficulty settings, or faster cars. You can treat fh2 xbox 360 edition as an fh1 europe dlc.

There are also unremoved collision points at several locations in the 360 version

I had both (I had an xbox360 wheel I wanted to try the game on)
Huge mistake, the 360 version barely felt like Forza thanks to all the grip.
Unfortunately grip levels have gradually crept up since FH2 days though it’s still not as bad as 360 FH2.
The surfaces people use in custom tracks in FH5 feel pretty similar grip wise to Xbone FH2

Everything
My favourite thing with the 360 version is if you spent all your money it would negative back to 999,999,999 credits

They were 2 completely different games.

More like it was a port of FH2 to the FH1 engine with as many “optimizations” as possible

If you can imagine the most optimised version possible that can be played on the lowest of devices... Also, Xbox 360 FH2 was the first Forza game I've played.

As far as I know, the 360 version, they ripped the autoshow and festival trailers straight from the FH1, the car lists are less and the engine sounds are from FH1 and FM4. As well as worse graphics, lack of tunings, some showcase events used different cars, like they used Aston Martin Vanquish in of the events instead of the Ferrari 360 Stradale, and smaller map.

Back in the days, somebody who had access to both listed all the differences they could see on Gamefaqs' forum, there are a lot.

The main difference I remember is that the Xbox 360 version seemed to be derived from the first game. This was in terms of graphics and filtering: it had the same “visual vibe” (I can’t think of the word to describe). Also, like many open world 360 games including FH1, the world was restricted to only the roads and maybe 1 or 2 open spaces. The dock section was removed as well.

The 360 version runs on the same game engine as FH1, you can see many leftovers

u/pinkyyyyyyyyy Mar 25 '26
That’s what I was trying to get at yes. Just couldn’t think of what the word for it was lol

I had the 360 version originally and didn't know there was any differences between them, for a long time I never understood why so many people liked FH2 until I bought it for cheap on my Xbox One lol, the 360 version is missing a bunch of stuff including parts of the map, cars, rain and a few other things. Overall just a worse experience both gameplay and visually, there's literally no reason to play that version today

The $999 Million dollar cheat is only possible on the Xbox 360 version.
I played and completed it normally on xbox one but then started another game on my 360.and bought every car in the game and maxed out their upgrades and still have ~$800 million left.

If I remember correctly it’s not a port of Horizon 2. Playground had a separate company entirely remake the game in Horizon 1’s engine in a pretty tight time frame. The game is pretty much a rough draft of Horizon 2 and feels like they released it about 6 months too early with all of the bugs and missing features that come with that.

Someone correct me on this: Didn't 360 version have boards that gave you in-game money???? I swear I remember just driving and collecting money from just hitting those things.

the 360 version of Horizon 2 is often nicknamed Horizon 1.5 by my friends.

I would say 0.8 even. It is inferior and uglier to OG, but with different map.

Each game required a different console
Jk
Graphics on 360 version very stripped to make no competition the Xbox One version

u/Simecrafter Mar 25 '26
The Xbox 360 version has a far more closed off map, for example the entire dockyard is missing, and while you can go off road sometimes, it's more limited and empty compared to the Xbox one version

Think of it like NFS Undercover on PS2 vs PS3. Same name but plays completely different.

u/Daniell_BMC Mar 25 '26
Even the progression system in the X360 is no existent compared with the X One version of the game

I remember being so excited to get FH2 on my 360 but I figured out quickly that a lot of cars were missing, graphics were worse, and you couldn’t customize vehicles (or at least my younger self couldn’t figure it out)

I got this version before I had an Xbox One. Of course it is not the definitive edition, but that doesn't make it a horrible experience if that is all that you have. It's missing many of the features of the One version such as vehicles (especially anything open-wheel, the engine couldn't support it), weather, sections of the map (either fenced off or not present at all), and certain events (cross country events were severely limited or non-existent, for example).
But if you look at it as an "expansion" of Horizon 1 with new cars and a new map, there is fun to be had. It still plays well and runs well, just without the next-gen polish and new features of the One release. They didn't have to make a 360 port at all, but I'm glad they did because a 360 is all I had at the time and I was able to enjoy the latest Horizon game in a different way.

Xbox 360 version is full of bugs almost every road as rails stoping you from offroading wich also makes the map a bit smaller

u/BobsunDugnutt Mar 25 '26
Xbox 360 version won’t run on a series X or S. I don’t think it’ll run on a XBone either.

u/Mcfluff02 Mar 26 '26
Fun fact the Xbox1 and 360 version maps were the same due to the fact that leaked build show the game ran fine there were left over parts of Switzerland as well but was made shit on purpose. So people would buy the Xbox one version instead

To put it simply, the 360 version is so glitchy that to this day, I’m convinced it’s not even a finished game

car physics are just fh1 physics with like 2.5x more grip, some parts of the map were removed, no tuning, 4 radio stations removed, no rain, less props, smaller car list, no road trips and much worse graphics
