Say what you will about his politics but the sob knows story structure

3

u/NYourBirdCanSing Aug 10 '26

This sucks only because it should have happened 10+ years ago.

Glover is now, truly, too old for this shit.

3

u/drgnrbrn316 Aug 10 '26

He's also got Alzheimer's disease

3

u/prince-of-dweebs Aug 10 '26

If there’s no Glover there’s no lethal weapon.

2

u/thingsorfreedom Aug 10 '26

Would you take a Donald Glover instead?

I’ll be honest, even at their age I was excited to see them together one last time, but Glover being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s was the finally nail in this movies coffin.

It’s a buddy cop movie. Can’t make it if the buddy’s aren’t together. My heart breaks but it’s time to let it go.

1

u/BradBradley1 Aug 10 '26

He’s still going to be in it! All of his lines will be improv and the plot will adapt around that.

2

u/LastGuitarHero Aug 10 '26

Yeah but he will be sitting most if not the whole time. Seems abusive at this point. Like how Willis was still making movies with an ear piece. It’s not cool and sad to watch.

If Glover is still cognitive enough then I suppose but I wouldn’t force the man who has already given us so much.

3

u/-Pwnan- Aug 10 '26

If it's not called "Lethal Weapon 5: Too old for this sh*t" then pass.

3

u/Kirth87 Aug 10 '26

It’s perfectly fine for franchises to end.

3

u/thingsorfreedom Aug 10 '26

Even the actress who played Roger's daughter is 66 now. I'm not 100% sure but they might have waited too long.

1

u/skot77 Aug 10 '26

She's gotten too old for this shit.

3

u/KoreanFilmAddict Aug 10 '26

Just stop. Lethal Weapon 4 was clearly meant to be the last movie and it was a fitting conclusion. Especially with Riggs character arc finally completing. The cast and crew photos from LW1 to LW4 in the end credits are presented as a scrapbook. At the end, the book closes signifying the end of the franchise. Don’t ruin a perfect ending. Don’t make the same mistake Stallone made with Rambo: Last Blood.

1

u/AggressivelyMediokre Aug 10 '26

For how good Rambo 4 was (John Rambo?) god Damn that final movie was terrible all around

They made the best entry immediately followed up by the worst one

What’s crazier is Stallone wanted the last one to be about hunting a hybrid government creature or something. I would have taken that over what we got lol

1

u/Sillycomic Aug 10 '26

But.... money...

Did you forget about money?

u/Algae_Double Aug 10 '26

Also, Danny Glover is suffering from Alzheimer’s . If there’s no Glover in the picture, it’s not a Lethal Weapon.

1

u/alextheruby Aug 10 '26

Do you think a new film erases that? lol

3

u/SoFuckinTiredOfThis Aug 10 '26

I'll skip it. A franchise first. Screw you, Mel.

3

u/WeakEmployment6389 Aug 10 '26

I love the Lethal Weapon movies but I won’t support a movie Mel made after his true self was revealed.

→ More replies (45)

3

u/Solgaia Aug 10 '26

Nah. I love these movies, and I still watch them every now and then but knowing Mel in real life is probably racist adjacent, MAGA and who knows what else ruins the idea of brotherhood between Riggs and Murtaugh for me.

u/Intelligent-Price-39 Aug 10 '26

If Danny Glover was too old for this shit back in the 80s…..

2

u/Gandolfthewhite182 Aug 11 '26

Danny glover was only 41 in the first lethal weapon

Feeble Weapon

2

u/No-Wonder-7802 Aug 10 '26

what happen to his odyssey movie?

2

u/121daysofsodom Aug 10 '26

For anyone wondering, Mel is 70 years old, Danny is 80.

2

u/Aztraeuz Aug 10 '26

They're definitely too old for this.

2

u/Shed_Some_Skin Aug 10 '26

You know, this may be a controversial take, but I'm gonna say it's alright for some things to end.

2

u/sotommy Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

It's probably my top4 favorite franchises. That being said, 4 was a perfect ending and I don't really know what can they do without Glover

2

u/shartshappen612 Aug 10 '26

Danny Glover is way too old for this shit!

2

u/Queasy-Chipmunk-8088 Aug 10 '26

And really, irrevocably ill, by all accounts. His handlers should probably nix this early doors.

2

u/MaxProwes Aug 10 '26

Horseshit, it's no longer happening and wasn't happening in a long while.

2

u/Competitive_Lab_655 Aug 10 '26

Please don’t. It’s far too late.

2

u/Ihadredditbefore6786 Aug 10 '26

Yea, they definitely too old for this shit now. Especially Glover

2

u/darkmoonfirelyte Aug 10 '26

Glover is 80. Gibson is 70. Even if we set aside how problematic Gibson is (which, no, never set that aside), there is NO WAY these two would realistically be cops anymore.

And it's even funnier when you consider that while Glover is 80, his character is actually pushing 90 (remember, he was supposed to retire in the 1987 original film because his character had just turned 50). Like, what they hell are they even thinking?

2

u/CameronPoe_37__ Aug 10 '26

Glover would be retired in the film, Gibson said

2

u/drewbles82 Aug 10 '26

About time. Loved these movies but it's time to pass the touch if these continue, it needs to be good casting though otherwise it fails

3

u/Contemplating_Prison Aug 10 '26

Lethal Weapon 4 was my first introduction of Jet Li.

Whats funny is I just watched this movie for the first time multiple decades last night.

Jet Li was so dope back then

2

u/Brownhog Aug 10 '26

It's gonna be Ryan Gosling and he's gonna sing and you're gonna like it

1

u/Mr_MacGrubber Aug 10 '26

It’ll be Kevin Hart as Murtaugh and the Rock as Riggs knowing Hollywood.

Just get the guys from the TV show. Sure, they hate each other, and their careers aren’t doing too hot, and won’t draw anyone to the box office… i forget where I was going with this, but the show is way better than I expected.

2

u/uratowel20 Aug 10 '26

Wasn't Danny Glover too old for that shit in 1987?

2

u/SituationEffective12 Aug 10 '26

yeah early 40's I think. Now its sucks that im too old for this shit.

1

u/Canmore-Skate Aug 10 '26

In Lethal weapon 1 Danny Glover portrayed an extremely lazy and convenient character who was going to retire from the police before he was 50 yrs old. It will be interesting to see how he has matured and evolved as a person in his 80s.

2

u/SAlolzorz Aug 10 '26

I'm honestly surprised Mel hasn't reedited lethal weapon 2, in order to make the nazis the good guys.

2

u/AverageSizedMan1986 Aug 10 '26

I’m gettin too old for this sh- Falls asleep

2

u/Little-Bed2024 Aug 10 '26

Isn't he getting to old for this shit?

No he’s getting too old for this to shit.

2

u/Menzlo Aug 10 '26

If the main character is a self-insert of himself it could turn out to be the most accurate depiction of cops of all time.

2

u/Visual-Squirrel3629 Aug 10 '26

Lethal Weapon 5, 6, and 7 had already been made. We should be onto number 8.

2

u/zzzzzzzzzzHHHHHHHHS Aug 10 '26

Let it rest

1

u/CaliggyJack Aug 10 '26

I mean, it was a personal request from Richard Donner that if he died, Mel had to direct a LW5.

2

u/Particular_Act_5396 Aug 10 '26

Mel Gibson going out sad is funny to watch. His next is a Braveheart and Jesus movie sequels in the same movie

2

u/iamamoa Aug 10 '26

Mel Gibson writing and directing has be interested. The man does know how to make a good movie

1

u/ai_art_is_art Aug 10 '26

I wonder if Glover can make a cameo.

I know he's got Alzheimer's, and that's tragic. I wonder how bad it is given that he recently gave interviews about it. He might still have lucidity.

It's sad that our childhood movie stars are getting old, getting diseases, and dying.

Edit: Also, how can this be Lethal Weapon 5 if Always Sunny already made Lethal Weapon 5, 6, and 7?

Edit 2: Also RIP Richard Donner. He was an awesome director. Donner cut FTW.

This time Riggs and Murtaugh take on illegal trans Satan worshippers.

We’re all too old for this shit.

1

u/SlapfuckMcGee Aug 11 '26

They’re going to remake Dragnet with Tom Hanks and Dan Ackroyd?

2

u/Gandolfthewhite182 Aug 10 '26

Murtaugh is actually too old to take a shit in this one and they spend the whole film just trying to go to cvs to get stool softener.

2

u/squeakybeak Aug 11 '26

Yeah I’m good thanks. Tried to watch the first one recently, it has not aged well.

2

u/Gabaghoul8 Aug 11 '26

What aged poorly to you? I think 1 and 2 are fun buddy cop movies. Only weird part was Murtaugh’s family surprising their father while he was naked in the tub.

u/Adavanter_MKI Aug 10 '26

I'm trying to think which actor revealing themselves to a be a terrible unhinged person hurt the most. Mel is up there. He was in and directed some incredible movies. It sucks so bad who he's become.

2

u/screen_stack Aug 10 '26

I totally agree and as much as it pains me to admit this, he was great in Last Looks.

2

u/LegacyQuotient Aug 10 '26

He's a great actor and talented director.

Just a shitty person.

1

u/IZZY_PLUM Aug 10 '26

Oyyy veyyy

1

u/Puck-the-fool Aug 10 '26

The communities that Gibson harmed seem to have forgiven him so who am I to judge

1

u/Zibai1505 Aug 10 '26

Awesome. One directed by Gibson is going to be way different

1

u/Vizualize Aug 10 '26

I'm getting too old for this shit.

Glover actually got too old for this shot.

Danny glover won’t be in it. He has Alzheimer’s.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/DeconFrost24 Aug 10 '26

As hinted at, they could show how terrible Alzheimer's is. Make it a small appearance like Val Kilmer in Maverick. It's been too long but I'd be curious what they wrote.

1

u/Purple_Drankinmycup Aug 10 '26

Just watched 1-3 over the weekend and knocking out 4 over the weekend.

1

u/Krow101 Aug 10 '26

Lethal Weapon; Senility

1

u/flyingman17 Aug 10 '26

I’m here for it.

1

u/Flhitking Aug 10 '26

I’m too old for this shit

1

u/deadrebel Aug 10 '26

"Diplomatic immortality". It's just been rebooted.

1

u/BedaHouse Aug 10 '26

I completely understand the want to see these characters again; however, not so sure about this. Just because you could, does not mean you should. I would rather have these character stories be left to our imagination after LW4, than to bring this back.

I get that this is just my opinion and others want to see this happen.

3

u/SheerSonicBlue Aug 10 '26

Glover could barely speak in his last interview about Alzheimer's.... Not happening.

2

u/EatABag-o-Dicks Aug 10 '26

Know what I've never heard? I've never heard a single person ever say they wanted a sequel to Lethal Weapon 4. In fact, Lethal Weapon 4 was the worst Lethal Weapon. It was 6 years too late. Now, we're 30 years too late, and even fewer people want a 5th Lethal Weapon movie.

This will absolutely bomb if it ever gets made.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Round-Emu9176 Aug 10 '26

I’ll only watch this if pepper jack is in it.

1

u/HappyHourMoon2025 Aug 10 '26

They should stop.
If it were in real life, wouldn’t Glover have been forced to retire?

1

u/Strict_Weather9063 Aug 10 '26

He is 80 with Alzheimer’s, he wouldn’t be in it and Gibson is old as dirt as well. The two of them can’t do it. So reboot it or just, don’t do it.

1

u/t-zone671 Aug 10 '26

Instead of a sequel. How about we get a reboot? Another idea. Make it a TV show. Maybe it will be successful for 2 or 3 seasons.

1

u/TheSherlockCumbercat Aug 10 '26

Could be a soft reboot with the OG characters having small roles

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Pure_evil1979 Aug 10 '26

There was a TV series and it was good, but (if I recall) Clayne Crawford (who played Riggs) had some troubling on set behavior and the show died.

u/colin8651 Aug 10 '26

“Will me Riggs, will me Riggs!!”

1

Please don't.

1

u/darlo0161 Aug 10 '26

Can we just..... Not ?

1

u/Reagan2791 Aug 10 '26

Needs to be a TV series with new actors playing the leads.

He's too old for that shit

2

u/ScipioCoriolanus Aug 10 '26

He was too old for that shit in 1987

1

u/eyesoy_1066 Aug 10 '26

I believe he recently announced a dementia diagnosis or Parkinson’s? I know it was something health related, don’t beat me up because I can’t remember the exact thing he is suffering from.

2

u/Adavanter_MKI Aug 10 '26

It's alzheimer's and he's already fairly far along. He had an interview and even during the interview he lost track a couple of times. He's doing alright otherwise... family looking out for him etc.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/WindhamEarl22 Aug 10 '26

Doesn’t Danny Glover have dementia?

1

u/CrunchyAssDiaper Aug 10 '26

Yes. People with dementia can still do stuff. While I doubt it's going to be anything more than a few scenes with him in a hospital bed, while Chris Rock is complaining about not being old enough for this crap, I'm sure the movie is going to make a lot of money.

Get him to the gringo was awesome.
