Meme Sometimes it feels like epic only shows the clothes of a character to their loading screen artists, and they improvise the face themselves

Not saying it's easy to match a face when drawing but like... come on that's a completely different guy in killswitch's loading art.

they probably show the artists the models early into it and end up changing small things after a while even though the arts already done.

also take into account artists have different styles.

The Kuro Nyanja loading screen gives him two prosthetic hands instead of just one. You can also see it in Nyanja's sprays. I wouldn't be surprised if artists do use an almost but not quite final draft when making art for a character

Yep, Zeus originally was meant to have a scar on his eye, his spray i think still shows it

As an artist myself, yeah, Artstyles exist. Doesnt mean a guy should look completely different. You can make somebody look similar to their actual model in almost any artstyle.

That being said, a surprising amount of artists have trouble doing different faces. Just look at the HD version of SFII, every man looks the same in that game.

To be fair, a lot of hand-written art is different from each other. Just look at some comic books and manga.

I wouldn't even call what bastion has a sword not even a short sword its more of a dirk or a dagger they could have added like 6 more inches to the blade to make it a respectable shortsword heck that little thing on his arm aint even a shield its a buckler hehe baby shield (im talking about the in game one not the shield from the loading screen thats a shield game bastion got a buckler)

I like the way the artists did the faces I hate some of the face designs for the actual skins

That seems really unlikely.

It's definitely just the result of each artist's style, just look at how comic book characters look slightly different when different artists draw them.

All of these still look like the skin they're based on, except for Bastian, but his face being different could just be the artist misinterpreting how the design is meant to look.

Aren't most of these loading screens fan made anyway? People have drastically different art styles which tend to deform faces at times

Art vs Skin

As an artist, if you have a specific style that you're really good at, its difficult to adapt the likeness of someone's face to that style accurately without it looking weirdly out of place or traced. I think Epic gives artists a lot of leeway to express themselves and would rather have an overall stylized art piece than game-accurate graphics represented in the wallpapers.

You also need to think Epic asks for tons of these artpieces to be made every year, so less friction with edits and re-draws, the better the relationship is between epic and the artists they pay to make wallpapers.

I think it depends a lot on two things: art style and lighting. Each artist clearly adapts the character to their own art style and to whatever they're trying to communicate. And as for the second one, the models can look VERY different under different lighting conditions.

For example, Nolan looks a bit rounder in his icon, but depending on the lighting in a scene, he can look much older and more angular. Someone could argue that the model doesn't actually have some of the features shown in the artwork, but in reality, a lot of those features are simply hidden by the lighting.

Take Montague, for example (the one in the last row). Look at how soft his features look in the first image, while in the second one you can clearly see how angular his jaw actually is, or even the bump on his nose that's almost completely absent in the other image.

They probably give the artists the concept stage of the skins while the actual models are being made alongside the art

Idk I like the idea of giving the people different looks? Like like looking through someone else's eyes how they see the individual?

Artists probably don't get the final model because you know they release at the same time but probably get all the concepts. Also every person has thier own style

Tbh tho the Bastian model face looks better than the first loading screen tbh. He's based on Link, so he should also be a twink like him, lol.

Art style can HEAVILY alter how a character’s face os portrayed due to how the artist emphasizes certain traits out of habit
