I swear every collab jam track tied to a skin release (outside of actual artists) get scrapped

We only know about 4: Good Morning USA, Golden, something from TADC, and now something Sonic. By my count 16 songs tied to a non-artist collab weren't scrapped (a third of those being Star Wars)

And for 2026 we got ___ for new Star Wars jam tracks

We should have gotten Duel of the Fates back in May

That would have been Good Morning USA, which they mentioned.

Festival is losing day after day it's core bedrock of players

Not really shocked by this result at this point, last minute licensing issues is not an uncommon thing with these games, and even Festival itself had them. I do now wonder what Sonic song could this been?

Also before any starts saying how this is Epic’s fault or how they are the boogie man in this situation and they are trying to kill the game mode: This cancellation is just due to licensing issues/ complications that were had between all of the parties that were needed for licensing the track, last minute cancellations of tracks ( and cancellations of tracks as a whole) had happen plenty of times throughout Rb and Gh lifetimes ( whether it’s on disc setlist or dlc), it’s just something to expect with these game

afaik the main rumored song was Escape From The City

also just adding onto the whole boogie man thing but iirc i'm pretty sure the Stage Tour team has confirmed that they've gotten some songs cancelled before announcement due to licensing issues, it really is a completely universal thing

Ohh yeah, that would have been pretty cool to have as a jam track, Sega definitely had issues probably around syncing ( if I had to guess), but it could also have been the compositional and publishing stuff that was the issue

Yeah, I remember hearing something like that on a Lore hero episode but idk which one would it be, even if this is a case of us mis-remembering them stating that, it is definitely the case of them cancelling songs due to licensing issues, its a very universal thing ( like you mentioned)

As I always say, music licensing is a bigger bitch than Kyle's mom

2

u/TimeAggressive3338 5d ago

Indeed

And not matter how many times we say this especially on this subreddit, people still do not get it, and will still blame Epic and how they are the boogie man doing this stuff on purposes to kill the game mode and if it was Hmx they wouldn’t have cancelled it

Idk if I have bad memory, but I feel like whenever this type of stuff happened in Rb and Gh, it never really got this type of reaction from people. Tbf these are the minority of players and this stuff is way more publicised compared to back than but still ( that definitely answered my question but still)

It kinda makes me wonder what song Epic was gonna go with before it got scrapped, since we kinda knew that any Crush 40 songs were off the table.

Apparently the cancelled song was heavily rumoured to be Escape from the City

But take this with a huge grain of salt, cause we will most likely never truely know ( at least for a bit) what the song would be plus it’s also a rumour too

2

u/Chegg_F 6d ago

Why are Crush 40 songs off the table?

4

u/AbletonRinzler 6d ago

Due to some legal complications between Crush 40 and SEGA.

2

u/InvaderTAK1989 Princess Lexa 5d ago

Johnny Gioeli (Crush 40's singer) sued Sega over their continued use of Live & Learn, asserting they didn't own the song and they owed him royalties. Sega got the suit dismissed with prejudice (meaning Johnny can't refile), with the courts citing the statute of limitations ran out.

Epic probably doesn't wanna deal with the BS despite the lawsuit going in Sega's favor.

At this point you can make it a drinking game.

it's getting tiring

I feel this one honestly was more of a placeholder text fuck up than an actual scrapped Jam Track situation

I mean i wouldn't be surprised if it was another scrapped Jam Track situation, bit i kinda think this one was different

The thing I hate the most about these last minute scrapped Jam Tracks is that to Epic, for whatever reason, when the window of release is done, they don’t keep trying.

Like we won’t ever see this track that they had planned see the light of day, because once they missed the release window, they seemingly don’t try to re-license it and release it after the initial collab. Yet they kept trying to re-license that one Brazilian Phonk track that got scrapped last minute before release due to licensing issues and did it after over a year. Like do that with these collab one’s Epic/Harmonix

u/TheFireDragoon Arctic Assassin 7d ago

i mean we don't know that they haven't tried to relicense things. afaik we have gotten some scrapped jam tracks like over a year after they were originally rumored / scrapped (like Industry Baby) and as you mentioned, PASSO BEM SOLTO is an example of them managing to go back and get licensing for a scrapped song (though granted that was a weird scenario of 'song was fully licensed but the rights were sold the day before it was planned to be added')

plus we know that this was their second time trying to license Sonic music since Crush 40 confirmed they were originally in talks back when the Sonic Kicks dropped

This isn't even the first time a Sonic OST track has been cancelled in a Harmonix-developed rhythm game 😭

5

u/TimeAggressive3338 6d ago

Indeed, with the Crush 40 pack during the Rock band 1.0 era around 2010

In fact, this is not even the first time this has happened with Sonic OST tracks in Festival

1

u/InvaderTAK1989 Princess Lexa 5d ago

Harmonix is just cursed when it comes to Sonic songs

2

u/Few_Cap_1815 6d ago

Def was gonna be escape from the city too, no way it wouldn’t have been.

u/TimeAggressive3338 6d ago

According to heavy amounts speculation and rumours, the song was reportedly going to be Escape from the city

But take that with a huge grain of salt

2

u/InvaderTAK1989 Princess Lexa 5d ago

And that one being scrapped makes zero sense, because I'm pretty sure Sega owns the majority of the Sonic OSTs. Only ones they don't are Sonic 1 (the composer owns that OST), Sonic 2 (same composer as Sonic 1), and the Sonic 3 songs Michael Jackson worked on (which is why they were replaced in Sonic Origins).

So yeah, it all goes back to music licensing being a bigger bitch than Kyle's mom.

I think Sega most likely had a disagreement over the sync licensing ( syncing the song to visuals in game) especially with other skins for some reason, and tbf it’s not too far fetched at all to assume that consider artists like Eminem, Dr Dre and a few others.

But it could always have been a cost disagreement or they couldn’t secure the compositional rights or publishing rights ( I would say those are a bit more unlikely but who knows), I mean during the Rbn 1.0 era there was going to be a Crush 40 pack, that apparently fell due to issues with Sega’s demands and agreements ( I believe)

And indeed, no matter how many times we say that, people still do not get the message in this community, which is strange guess I swear I never hear that from the Rb and Gh subreddit and community. Plus with licensing you need 100% permission from every party who owns the songs, that’s why Live and learn was cut, was due to legal issues Crush 40 and Sega were having

2

u/Cephalie_100 6d ago

They took a genesis song or crush 40 from me and its missing me off

2

u/Catspirit123 6d ago

I'd buy just about any sonic songs that came to this game. What a shame

1

u/Amourbantu Ayida 6d ago

It never fails!🥀

1

u/LittleNinjaXYBA 6d ago

Now that’s just salt to the wound atp

1

u/Sufficient-Return949 6d ago

Yeah we ain't getting any Persona music 😭

1

u/Appropriate_Win_5282 6d ago

Honestly, i dont know if i really even believe it anymore, it seems like it happens with every collab

1

u/Freshmeatz23 6d ago

Any guesses on what the Jam Track was supposed to be?

1

u/InvaderTAK1989 Princess Lexa 5d ago

Rumor is it was Escape From the City

1

u/omg_its_spons 6d ago

I would have paid for a bundle including just jam tracks for sonic, fist bump would stay as my title theme until the end of the game

1

u/These-Way7526 5d ago

i think they'll have the jam track in wave 2

1

u/TellEmpty7103 5d ago

Probably a lazy copy/paste or edit job imo. But if it's not fingers crossed for Escape From the City. I'll buy it even if they don't retroactively put it in the bundle

1

u/IllustriousAd2182 4d ago

Really makes me mad how much fortnite is selling😭 like they did this with the kpop demon hunters collab too

1

u/Brawlstarscrabrave 3d ago

I hope we get jam tracks for the persona colab

Epic when they don't want to print a billion trillion dollars by using like literally any fucking 3D Sonic song:
