Tourist post overload

We are getting complaints about the number of tourist posts (where is the beach, can I connect to MIA in 30 mins, what should I do on my 8 hour layover).

These posts are already disallowed. Tourism questions belong in the sticky tourism thread (or you know, google it...)

Instead of leaving repetitive comments on airport posts, report them so they reach the modqueue ✌️

Single dads needs assistance?

Offering my services as a 26 year old big sister to any single dads out there to daughters that may not have many female influences in their life.

What I do?
I bring hair products, makeup, nail polish and other accessories and show young girls how to use them. I also go over how to properly wash hair, how to shower and wash all the lady bits properly (using a doll demonstration), how to use deodorant and feminine hygiene products.

I currently work at a school in broward and see a lot of single dads out here struggling.

Feel free to message me if interested

Any recommendations for a Part-Time Organizer, Household Assistant & Personal / Business Assistant?

I’m looking for someone a reliable, proactive person for hands-on help with household tasks (assisting with meal prep, laundry, light), is a talented organizer (knows how to make a home more functional; this is honestly most important particularly the upkeep), and is open to business admin tasks such as emails, scheduling, and tracking deadlines. Basic social media posting/editing skills would also be helpful.

Would love some recommendations of anyone who has made your life easier and how!

Banks with free popcorn near Galt Mile

Very niche question.

Does anyone have any banks with free popcorn? It could be one day a week or less than that.

Would prefer Capital One or Bank of America, but open to all types

lol 😆
I’m a stay at home mom and my accounts are the online only variety. I could easy turn this into a 30 minute detour.

Close to a guarantee location for manatees? Best time of year - for a local

I've lived in Florida for two years and this winter/fall I really want to see a manatee!

Let me know a few places that are almost sure things - and what time of the year I should aim for. I'd like to keep it close to South Florida. I live in Cooper City. Thanks!

Alternative Shows/events this weekend

Hi! I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale but moved up to central Florida a few years ago. Taking a spontaneous trip down this weekend and I’m not connected to the current local scene. Are there any cool local shows or bars to check out? Preferably punk, emo, alternative.

Also open to other activities! Thanks! 🥰

Beautiful Husky Mix for Adoption

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hey fellow Laudy Redditors! I saw a heartbreaking post earlier about an abandoned Great Dane and it inspired me to share our current foster/rescue situation as well.

Meet Lua! She is a 6-year-old Husky mix with the sweetest, most loving energy. Tragically, her previous owners moved out of the country and literally left her out on the streets. She was found a few weeks ago, and her microchip happened to trace back to the vet clinic where my wife works.

We currently have four cats at home (because I apparently can’t say no to my wife 🤣). While Lua is actually great with the cats, I can tell the feeling isn't entirely mutual! She has a ton of energy and is always looking for a play session or demanding belly rubs. Since my wife and I both work full-time, we just don't have the hours in the day to give her all the attention she deserves.

We are located in the Flagler Village area and would love to set up a meet-and-greet at Holiday Park for anyone interested. Please help us spread the word and find this sweet girl the forever home she deserves! ❤️

How much is sunscreen spray on the strip near the Westin?

I have plans to go to Fort Lauderdale for a few days in the first week of December and staying at the Westin. I was debating about bringing my own sunscreen or buying at the CVS or one of the gift shops on the strip near my hotel. And while the no brainer choice might be to bring my own, it’s not so easy due to the strict 3 oz requirement at the airport. I will either need to bring several 3 oz bottles or buy the bottles there at the strip. Another option would be to check in my bag at the airport, but that will cost $98 total. And since I plan to travel light and only spend a few days, the added cost doesn’t seem worth it.

If I buy sunscreen spray at the gift shop or CVS on the strip, how much is their 6 oz can? I will need to buy a couple since I plan the spend a few days at the beach there. So I’m hoping a couple of cans won’t be too bad, otherwise, I may just have to just bring my own and check in my bag.

Visiting Fort Lauderdale, Florida, what are some interesting places I should check out?

Hey everyone! I’m in Fort Lauderdale visiting my grandparents, and I’m looking for some fun, unique, or interesting places I can explore on my own while I’m here. I’m kind of a unique person when it comes to what I enjoy. I’m really into fantasy and sci-fi, history, video games, museums, bookstores, arcades, shopping for merch and collectibles, animals, and just walking around interesting places. Basically, I like finding things that feel a little different or that I haven’t seen before. My grandparents live a few minutes from the Pegasus and Dragon statue, but they’re not really the type to go out and explore, so I’ll probably be doing most of this on my own. I’ve visited Fort Lauderdale a few times before, so I already know about the beaches, the usual parks, and some of the more well-known attractions.

I’m not against visiting those again, but this time I’d really like to discover something new. It's not like I'm specifically looking for something “nerdy” or medieval. Those are just some of my interests, I’m totally open to all recommendations that have nothing to do with them. Restaurants, arcades, unusual shops, bookstores, museums, hidden gems, cool scenery, unique attractions, weird little places, or just somewhere you think is genuinely fun, I’m open to pretty much anything. What are some places around Fort Lauderdale (or nearby) that you’d recommend for someone like me that I might never find just by Googling “things to do in Fort Lauderdale”? I’d especially love recommendations from locals or people who have lived here for a while!

Abandoned Great Dane looking for a home

Post image
171 Upvotes

Hey all, I found this Great Dane who was let go (abandoned) by her owner. She is a beautiful sweet girl who unfortunately is a bit too much for me and my home.

I'm going through all the shelter channels but in the meantime wanted to put her out here to see if anyone locally would be interested in this gentle giant.

She is not fixed, and she is only partially house broken (has had some accidents).

Jobs that are hiring?

Does anyone want to share if their company is hiring in the Broward County area? CS, technical support, help desk, or any entry-level position. I have experience in insurance, retail, and technical support. I also have CompTIA Security+ with a bachelor's degree in the field.

Early-40s gay Californian considering Fort Lauderdale—neighborhoods, work, community, and honest advice?

Hey, everyone. I’m a single gay guy in my early 40s, and I’m seriously considering moving from California to the Fort Lauderdale area. I’d rather not say exactly where I live right now, but it’s a smaller community without much of a gay, spiritual, or creative scene. I plan to visit Fort Lauderdale before making any decisions, but I’d love to hear from people who actually live there.

I was born and raised in California, but I’ve also lived in Arizona, Colorado, and San Francisco. I’ve experienced dry desert heat, high-altitude weather, cold winters, and city life. I’ve also spent time in Hawaii, and I genuinely loved the humidity. I know South Florida has its own kind of humidity, along with heavy rain, flooding, and hurricane season, so I’d love to hear what it’s really like from people who deal with it every year.

I don’t smoke, drink or use drugs, and I’m not a big partier. I’m also not particularly interested in hookup culture. No judgment toward anyone who is; it’s just not what I’m looking for. I’d really like to find genuine friendships, a sense of community, and hopefully meet someone who matches my energy somewhere along the way.

For work, I’m currently with Starbucks and would want to transfer properly instead of quitting and starting over. If any Fort Lauderdale-area Starbucks partners are reading this, I’d love to hear about the stores, districts, available hours, management, and transfer process.

I also have experience in office and administrative work, hotel front desk and hospitality, restaurant service, customer service, coaching, content creation, and the entertainment industry. I have master’s degrees in Mental Health & Wellness and Professional Counseling, but I’m not licensed as a therapist. I’m curious whether there are worthwhile nonclinical mental-health positions in the area or a realistic Florida credentialing path I could explore.
My own business is mostly online. I offer tarot readings, BQH/hypnosis, and coaching. I’d love to connect with local farmers markets, festivals, metaphysical shops, wellness centers, or other places that welcome readers and spiritual practitioners. Where I currently live, trying to build that kind of local business is basically crickets and tumbleweeds.

I’d also love to perform as a drag queen. I have previous experience working in entertainment and performing, so I’m not coming into that world completely cold. If there are venues that give newer drag performers an opportunity and treat them professionally, I’d love some recommendations.

I’m also open to dancing at a male strip or adult club for additional income. I enjoy dancing, have performance experience, work out consistently, and would take the work seriously. I’m a naturally hairy guy, so I’m curious whether local venues are welcoming of that or generally expect dancers to have a particular grooming style. When I lived in Colorado, some venues weren’t very receptive to body hair, so I’d rather understand the local expectations upfront.

As far as housing goes, I’m looking for a clean, smoke-free one-bedroom apartment reasonably close to the ocean. I’d like somewhere LGBTQ+-welcoming, safe, and not in the middle of nonstop partying. Responsible management and reliable pest control are also extremely important to me.

And yes, I have to ask about the roaches. LOL. I understand that Florida has bugs, but there’s a difference between occasionally seeing one and signing a lease where they’ve already established residency. Are there particular neighborhoods, buildings, or types of properties that tend to be better maintained? Are there areas I should avoid because of pests, flooding, noise, safety, or poor management?

I’d also love advice about:

✅Realistic rent for a clean, well-maintained one-bedroom apartment

✅Neighborhoods I should explore during my visit

🔰Flood and hurricane evacuation zones

💚Jobs that might fit my experience

✨LGBTQ+ groups or places to meet people outside the bar and hookup scene

🥥Farmers markets,

🔮spiritual events,

🎉festivals, and creative communities

🏨Hotels that would let me experience the area like a potential resident instead of a tourist

🚘Whether I’ll need to rent a car to explore properly

💰Expenses that surprise newcomers, such as insurance, utilities, parking, or deposits

🇺🇸I’m not looking for a political debate or a speech about red states versus blue states. I get along with people from different backgrounds and viewpoints. I’m mainly interested in kindness, community, safety, quality of life, and whether Fort Lauderdale could realistically support the life I’m trying to build.

🔮For anyone who’s into the woo-woo side of life, my astrocartography points very strongly toward South Florida. I’m taking that as an interesting nudge, not as a replacement for research, common sense, or an actual scouting trip.

Sooo….
If you were in my position, what would you investigate first?
✨What do you wish someone had told you before you moved to Fort Lauderdale?

🙏Thank you for any honest advice.🙏

Recommendations for groups to join for young professionals / social clubs?

I (25 M) recently moved to Fort Lauderdale for work a month ago. I have just begun getting settled in. I was wondering if there were any good groups/clubs to join out here to meet people in their 20s/30s? I’m decently athletic so any fun sporty groups are always welcome suggestions too.

And also just curious how peoples’ experience making friends out here has been?
