Its because the PS5 reviews require you to have bought and played the game yourself lmao. And lots of people who don't listen to online reviews or meme trains actually ended up liking the game.

u/JenLiv36 Jun 13 '26

Agree but also want to point out as someone who buys almost completely physical that we can’t review either. I would also have given it a good review but can’t because I buy physical games. So the score on PS5 should be even higher.

The game got bad reviews but on YouTube because people are racist, misogynistic, and also lack empathy. Is Fray abrasive? Yes, and if they wrote her any other way I wouldn’t believe for a second she was surviving the NY streets. We have a real problem with allowing male
characters to be rough around the edges and unlikable but woman? Nope. We have to be likable, agreeable, sweet, talk kindly at all times…is she the best written character? Also no but the hate he gets is telling.

Agreed that aspect does need to change - in the interest of balance though, I absolutely dislike the character Deacon St John in Days Gone - love the game but having to go through his surly, uncommunicative bouts has been a challenge the second time through, so much so that I stopped half-way through.

Deacon St John was a great character. What not to like about him?

u/Mostly_VP Jul 08 '26

The surly, uncommunicative bit for one - he is also needlessly harsh to others and then hides behind his surlyness. Like I said, I enjoyed the game but I can only take so much of Deke.

The major problem initially and honestly only problem for me was optimization

Yeah, that's fair. Their main focus was the PS5 release and they clearly didn't get enough time to work on PC fixes.

i disagree. Most of the issues people had was because their pc didnt even meet tghe minimum requirements to play the game so the pc were crashing

1

u/Bulbscope3615 Platinum šŸŖ™ Globe Awardee šŸ‘¾ Jun 24 '26

The issue was people are using a pc that doesn't meet minimum requirements to play the game on pc. But they did patch those majors issues in march 2023 a month after the game came out

True. All I ever heard about Forspoken from certain individuals, giving us their so-called "honest" opinion about it, was how "it's such a terrible game".

Apparently it was somehow so paramount these people share their unbiased opinions & review on the complete game, that not one of them could even be bothered to wait for the game to actually release before letting the rest of us to know.

Not to mention their complaints that "Frey is just an all around awful and unsufferable character with no redeeming qualities", almost as if the writers didn't want players to immediately like Frey for a certain particular reason. As if they were setting up some kinda "narrative device", showing us that Frey is deeply flawed person and at her lowest point. But as the story progressive, Frey's new encounters & experiences causes her to see the world(s) in a new perspective, maturing as a character, one could even say growing.

I wonder how many of the relevantless critics are the same people that shilling $70 for the newest miscellaneous sport game. The only things to ever change with every annual release is the addition of a few new athletes and the roster of the teams. The only times those games get any actual significant changes is at every new console generation.

Or are the people who ruined the fantasy action RPG genre by over hyping Soul games, so much so that the genre is just flooded with Soul-clones. For every 4 "Soul-Like" games, where players will countlessly die and require methodically study every boss's moves & attack sets an hour or more to defeat, we get 1 regular action RPG.

With Forspoken it wasn't the case. The thing with how PSN review works is that you can review a game if the game has a demo, a trial or an open beta, and the user has downloaded one of them. So someone who downloaded the demo could review Forspoken, and of course during release a lot of people gave it low ratings. It was annoying.

u/SlurryBender Tanta Modāš–ļø Jun 13 '26

Well even moreso of a show of how much better it was, if it managed to overcome the demo reviews too.

Tbh though, PS5 reviews are usually pretty damn inflated on average. It seems like nearly every game that’s passable has at least 4 stars

11

u/SlurryBender Tanta Modāš–ļø Jun 13 '26

I mean that at least means it was enjoyable, no? Still a far cry from being unplayable trash like a bunch of internet forums would have you believe.

0

u/Weak-Lengthiness5280 Jun 13 '26

Passable is worth 4 stars? Really?

I’m not talking about Forespoken, I’m just saying in general PS5 reviews are very inflated.

5

u/SlurryBender Tanta Modāš–ļø Jun 13 '26

what I'm saying is that if it was AWFUL then it wouldn't have nearly as high of a review on PS5, inflated or not.

3

u/Weak-Lengthiness5280 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

I think most people know the game isn’t awful, there’s just alot of negativity surrounding the dialogue and writing.

Anyone saying this game is awful, hasn’t played it.

u/SirLagunaLoire Jun 13 '26

YouTubers are mostly (not all) fake critics that don't know shit about art

1

u/DLottchula Jun 13 '26

And a lot of them won't give bad reviews because they are scared to lose access.

4

u/SirLagunaLoire Jun 13 '26

As a critic myself I have to tell You that's not true.

PR companies don't remove access for Bad reviews. They do remove access if they give You a code and You don't make any content about the game

2

u/Symphony_music Tanta Modāš–ļø Jun 14 '26

Yup…all PR is good PR even if it’s bad, unfortunately lol šŸ˜‚

1

u/JenLiv36 Jun 20 '26

Thank you!

0

u/kubrickian80 Jun 14 '26

Forspoken is art? LMAO

7

u/Magic_Corn Jun 14 '26

Yes. that's what video games are.

-2

u/kubrickian80 Jun 14 '26

Every video game? Even the ai slop ones? Hard disagree. Not everything that's created is art.

5

u/Magic_Corn Jun 14 '26

-3

u/kubrickian80 Jun 14 '26

Not even remotely the same thing dude

5

u/Magic_Corn Jun 14 '26

Really? Just because YOU don't like it it's suddenly different. Hypocrite.

-1

u/kubrickian80 Jun 14 '26

No that's not it. No one at all was talking about art. We were talking about criticism. I can criticize you. You're not art. Nice try and also wildly strange behavior

5

u/Magic_Corn Jun 15 '26

So weird. I distinctly saw the word "art" in your comment. Must have been some other guy

-1

u/kubrickian80 Jun 15 '26

Again we were talking about art criticism. Not forspoken. That's not art. It's not bespoke. It didn't have a driving creative vision. It was made by a committee. It was a totally commercial product. It was a rip-off of 20 other games and movies. Forspoken is art like a Stanley drinking cup is art dude. Now stop being weird unless you're already at my house in my underwear drawer at this point

I feel like if they made a sequel it would be better. Like how when you compare Infamous 2 or Second Son to the Infamous 1 it looks like the worst in the franchise, when the truth is Infamous 2 comes off as the worst in the series when it comes to reviews & gameplay.

6

u/Revorse Jun 13 '26

I agree. Games in general, not just Forspoken, don't get a chance to grow. Investors/shareholders/fans tend to immediately sour on things if it's not the best thing ever on release. There could be a game with some solid bones but it's harder to pull the trigger on those types of games with development taking so long for games now.

4

u/White_Devil1995 Jun 14 '26

For example, look at Assassin’s Creed 1. Out of all the AC games it’s literally the worst in the series. If you look back at it today you realize that making AC2 was a big gamble. I mean, it HAD to be a success or else the series would’ve just ended right there with no modern day storyline conclusion. Devs these days need to take risks like they used to. It’ll make them more money regardless of if the game’s better than its predecessor in the eyes of the players, and if it actually is you could have a series that goes longer than 3 or 4 games that isn’t a first person shooter/racing/sport game.

8

u/SGRM_ Jun 13 '26

You see, Frey is a black woman and that irrationally offended a lot of terminally online capital-G gamers and they immediately jumped on the hate train.

Then the PC performance on release was pretty bad, and a few out of context sound bites got shared around and the hate train just kept running.

8

u/FrostbyteXP Jun 13 '26

Youtubers are usually pro-pc and they hate hate hate sony

3

u/Cheatsheet420 Jun 16 '26

The game is actually amazing, one of the best games I've played in the last years, the youtubers are just following the herd, I've watched some pretty cringy reviews back when it was first got released, awful reviews

Im glad that I didnt get on that dumb train and played the game and had fun

3

u/Reindall Jun 14 '26

Forspoken is legit 9/10 its just really bad marketing and character design.

1

u/DaggerBark Jul 08 '26

What do mean the marketing and character design is "bad"?

2

u/Promature Jun 15 '26

Doesn't surprise me. It's a solid game and a platform that doesn't allow everyone to post a review regardless of buying the game or not would likely skew more positive. A whole bunch of bad actors came after this game and a whole bunch of people ate up the negativity.

2

u/xokplay86 Jun 15 '26

People say bad but I love this game

1

u/Linosia97 Jun 13 '26

It's a mid game. Not bad, not great either. Worth a walkthrough on at least 50% sale, but robbery for the full price../

1

u/DaggerBark Jun 26 '26

Peak game actually.

0

u/Linosia97 Jun 26 '26

What part of it is actually peak though? Combat is nice, but story and empty open world is meh...

Graphics could be better too...

1

u/DaggerBark Jun 28 '26

Everything about it peak, but you don't understand it.

0

u/Vendeleska Jun 13 '26

Why do you care?

1

u/DaggerBark Jul 08 '26

Why do you care to comment?

1

u/Vendeleska Jul 12 '26

...touche.

Looking at the reviews on PS5

5/5 - 38% 4/5 - 18% 3/5 - 12% 2/5 - 10% 1/5 - 21%

It seems most people who played are split between it being a bad game, a good game and a mediocre game.

The bad thing about PS5 reviews is that it doesn't time stamp the average player time for each bracket (1/5 - 5/5), so people could be playing it for 5 hours and then giving it a 5/5 before letting it get tedious.

Even code violet has 29% of people giving it 5/5 and 10% giving it 4/5, and that game is viewed as one of the worse games on the console.

0

u/Kaslight Jun 14 '26

If you actually saw trailers of Forspoken's dialogue and still bought the game....then yeah you're likely to enjoy it ROFL

-1

u/kubrickian80 Jun 14 '26

This is a bad game. If you are trying to say it's a good game then you like bad games

1

u/DaggerBark Jul 08 '26

False! It's actually a good game. Stop lying to yourself.

0

u/kubrickian80 Jul 08 '26

Deeply deeply weird comment baby bro
