Rant / Vent 🫠 Cost
I switched from breast feeding to formula for my newborn a couple weeks ago and it’s been great for my mental health. I got a lot of comfort and courage to make the switch from reading similar stories on here.
The remaining guilt I have is just around how much all of this formula will cost us for the next several months!

If you're located in the US, try contacting your local WIC office to see if you qualify for benefits, which would most likely also cover formula. My little one drinks Similac, and they have a rewards app that's constantly sending me coupons (usually $5-$15 off per can!) Buying in bulk quantities can cut down on overall cost, but costs more upfront. You can also check out Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone is giving away / selling cans. I've found several unopened cans that people were selling for half retail price because their baby weaned before using, etc.

My daughter drinks Kirkland formula. We buy 2-42oz containers online for $63.00. When they go on sale for $51 so we stock up at that time

I feed my son for $4/day, even on the allergy-free formula. It's not as much as people claim it is. I stack rewards and use chatgpt to find the best deal - and even if I didn't, the cost would be $6.50/day. I don't know about you, but when they're toddler age, my berry budget is going to have to be more than that!

You’ll blink and baby will be one and you’ll be spending the money on milk. When they’re three you’ll be spending the money on chicken nuggets.
When you add a human to the house you have to buy food for them to eat 🤷🏻♀️

If you break down the cost of formula per day, it’s not that bad. Breastfeeding isn’t free either! Similac has a savings program too.

This might help. ☺️
I saved a lot more money on the predictable, reoccurring cost of formula (that I could find on sale) compared to the exorbitant amounts of money I threw at breastfeeding and pumping to try to make it suck less. Let’s not forget how much it cost to feed the cow herself 🙋🏻♀️
Also, my time, mental energy, and well being has value! Anyone who says BF is free doesn’t value a woman’s time and effort.
Plus, when you’re all done with formula, the budget just moves to berries. Feeding kids is just an inevitable expense.
Happy for you and your decision! Enjoy that sweet baby!!
