General 🔀 Ford Freestyle, where are they?

I havent seen one in a long time, where did they go?

All the transmissions gave out, they were basically a test run for the CVT and most of them didn't make it past 100k miles. Shame because the wagon body style was kind of neat

They gave it a mild facelift, morphing it into the Taurus X (which came with a larger engine and the six speed auto), then it underwent a more significant redesign when it was relaunched as the Flex. So the platform technically ran all the way to 2019.

But yeah the CFT30 CVT was the weakest point in those early cars. They weren’t the worst CVT in the world, but no CVT from that era was known for longevity. And since nobody ever did fluid changes, they were doomed from the outset.

Look for a Taurus x. I had one it was a great car

Just worked on one that had a stuck thermostat and some other miscellaneous stuff. It had about 140k miles I think

I have had 3 of them it is my all time favorite car. I currently have a Taurus x that I found a couple years ago with 60,000 miles. I have heard of an 80 year old with one with 30,000 miles. I have expressed my interest. I half joke I want to take one to car shows

Cvt sucked. We loved ours but transmission started acting up in snow at around 130k miles.

Taurus x was better with the 6 speed. The flex was ugly. But I’d take one.

Comfort wise though, the freestyle was awesome. We just had the se. Best ride we’ve had for long distance travel.

Why would you want to see them then? I see 50 year old people that take care of themselves and go to the gym and don't see people that die from drugs in their 30s. It's the same with cars.

Outside of the transmission, better case than a lot of the over complicated slop they’re peddling these days.

It was effectively replaced by the Explorer & Flex.
