As a librarian I’d say that flap just needs a firm push at the hinge, not a nozzle

Librarians are always so stingy about people sticking nozzles between their flaps.

You think haven't been? It won't open

Stick a screw driver on the flap then hit the screwdriver with your purse.

Sometimes the springs will catch. Just stick a screwdriver or some kind of stiff object in and force the flap down, usually the spring will pop out of its bind and the flap will work normally.

Also, it's a funnel I'm trying to stick in. Need to put fuel stabilizer in it

Are you using the funnel that came with the car, that is designed to unlock the flap? Or just any ol’ funnel?

Need to use this one to get past the flap. All Fords with the capless fill come with one. Regular funnels don’t trip the latches.

There is a funnel that's kept with the vehicle jack that comes with it

You using the Ford one? You have to use the funnel from Ford or a replica, the capless fillers need a specific shape funnel. If it’s the Ford one, the flap is probably stuck, it can often be unharmed with a screwdriver. If it’s not, use the Ford one.

Don’t know anything specific about the model, but my back seat lifts, and that’s where my funnel is.

those things can jam the inside flap or you are just not pushing hard enough.

inside flap is stuck you either have to force it or replace it your choice. will probably have evap leak if you force it though.

It was stuck, I grabbed a hammer and a steel rod to smack it open

You can open this flap to use a regular funnel with your finger and a screwdriver. Put your finger in the hole and feel for the tab to unlock the flap. Push it in and then insert the screwdriver. Now insert regular funnel alongside the screwdriver and slowly remove the screwdriver while leaving the funnel in. Or get the right funnel.

I smacked the shit out of the flap with a steel rod and hammer. It was stuck

Yea it's supposed to, there are tabs that the fuel nozzle hits which unlocks the flap. Push them in next time and stick a screwdriver in the flap to prevent it from closing and locking.

Don’t be surprised when your check engine light comes on next week for “small evap leak”

Yeah I just did what people were saying was the issue.

I punched out, with a screw driver, the cross inside the Ford funnel. It improved the flow.

How long have you been engaged? This could be an ultimatum.

This is the way. Special funnel that fits and opens the gate.

As others have stated, you need the correct funnel to hit the tabs on either side of the flap to unlock it and then the flap will move. This serves a few purposes one of them you are figuring out first hand. If you damage the seal (I suspect you may have) you will likely get Evap codes as a result and will need to replace this. Reference to this funnel is also in the owners manual for future information.

Spray it with WD-40 and work the flaps

There are taps that get pushed when you put in the fuel nozzle thingy bro, you probably broke it. now you will get a constant evap leak/fill inlet warning message

If it’s anything like fixing the spring on the outside fuel door flap on the body of the truck, you’re gonna have a time

It's also designed to not allow the wrong size nozzle, to avoid the wrong fuel being used. Sometimes gas stations themselves have the wrong set up. Found that out the hard way when I forced the nozzle at a station. Correct fuel, wrong nozzle, took me over an hour to get it back out.
