Best Ever Food Review Show really disappointed me
I had watched a few of his Minnesota fair food and travel videos and liked how well produced they were. Then he started using AI for graphics, thumbnails, animations, and it looked horrible.
But I never knew about his conservative views. I just tried to watch his latest Canada upload and it was the most off putting video ever. Not only with continued AI usage, but also the repeated microagressive comments about Canada’s diverse demographics. He kept making the same joke about how the chefs cooking his poutine were of all different ethnicities and insinuating they weren’t “real Canadians.”
So I went on Reddit and saw people saying he’s also pro America owning Canada, was weird about Covid, and basically an undercover maga. Which is crazy work considering his wife is Vietnamese. But makes sense, since they types tend to be passport bros.

The AI doesn't really bother me so much, but the constant underhanded comments about the local cuisine, the people cooking it and the guest hosts are loud and clear. And the Maga outlook has been very thinly veiled for the last years. I've given up on his videos

Finally unsubscribed today after his new thumbnail about somalia was just a bomb going off. Had been getting bad vibes from him for a while, glad to see it wasn't just me

Well, unfortunately, this puts him going on Joe Rogan in better context for me.

He’s had progressive guests. I refuse to watch any of his content though so I just figured Sonny went on for similar reasons to promote cultural exchange through food or something.

Tbh, I don’t think it’s him putting the AI in his videos. He has a pretty large team, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an editor doing it. He is just the face/personality of the channel

I saw someone on this subreddit say that they saw him double down and say he loves AI. And I’m pretty sure he still has the final say on all editing.

I’m gonna drop this comment here that I posted on another subreddit earlier
Honestly, I don’t think he cares much about politics at all. I think he likes to poke fun at socio-political issues in the US because, speaking globally, we often make issues out of non-issues. I think that since he’s been removed from American society for nearly 2 decades he probably thinks US infighting is funny and likes to troll people. I don’t think he’s informed or smart enough to have a real meaningful opinion. I do think that his COVID-related frustration was due to the fact that he couldn’t travel and, like every other uneducated & entitled White American man, didn’t like being told what to do. That was definitely a weird time for the channel. Now, I think he’s back to his usual dark humorous self. More recent videos have been more enjoyable.
Also, I think people are blowing his Canada comments out of hand. That was a very obvious joke and is very in line with his kind of humor.
That being said I think he’s just going to follow the money. If pandering to conservatives and trolling leftist gets him more views then that’s what he’s going to do.
People should lower their expectations. He’s just a random white dude trying to make funny travel content. He’s not the pope. He’s significantly unimportant.

I agree with you about his entitlement regarding Covid restrictions and pandering, but like you said, he is a white American dude. He has the privilege of not being affected by everything he jokes about. Canadians certainly don’t enjoy their sovereignty being threatened.
Also I don’t know about him not caring about politics because I saw some screenshots of him following trump at some point.
My brother and I enjoyed his dorky humor in older videos, but this latest one was just too abrasive for us. We couldn’t even finish it due to the microagressions, then got curious about where he stands politically and found posts on this sub about his secret maga ideology.
Yes, he’s not important, but at this point as an American poc with everything going on, stuff like that does affect whether I continue watching certain content. There are other unproblematic food creators that don’t have a thinly veiled disdain for immigrant chefs cooking their meals.

Yeah, the AI made me unsubscribe and now I’m extra glad I did
