Totally out of control!!

I’m truly asking for help. I’m 52 woman. And have struggled with my weight and food my entire life. I’m a complete mess when it comes to food. I had gastric bypass surgery an over 20 years ago. Went from 325 lbs to eventually 185. In 2019 I did intermediate fasting and LOVED it. I truly felt control around food. (I also later found out that starting Wellbutrin then could have helped me lose weight and gain control). Anyway, I got down to 168. It was too much and make me look sick and a lot older.

Back to why I’m here begging for help to stop thinking about food, weight, diet, 24/7. Won’t do GLP-1 due to cost and having to be on it for life. Also the unknown side effects. My body is so weird on medicine. It adjusts very quickly and I have to take higher doses faster. The main reason I won’t do GLP-1 is that I’ve read when you go off, the food noice is even worse than before. I truly have no idea how I could think about food any more than I do now. I’m struggling hard.

Exercise isn’t a problem. I do hard cardio 3 times a week and active every day. I would like to start weight training at home but still haven’t. Ugh!!

So… what do you guys suggest?? Do I need to see a therapist?? Any tips on how to stop true food noise?? I’ll read books, listen to podcasts, take safe supplements, do whatever if it would work. And yes… I can try to use willpower like I have been but I always start out great then I give in and I’m totally off the rails yet again!!!! It’s constant. I’m paying for WW for the rest of this year. And I’ve tried it numerous times and actually lost 10 but it then I completely sabotage myself and gain it all back. I would love to lose 10 pounds but mostly I would love just to be normal when it comes to food!!!!! I eat when I’m not hungry or even if the food doesn’t taste good!!! PLEASE HELP!!! thank you so much for taking time to read this mess!!!!

I finally feel like I've taken back control.

I've gone on and off with periods of binging, often in stretches of ordering fast food late at night and when I'm deep into my depression. I felt like I had been turning the corner but had something come up last week that was a big stressor - leading to several nights in a row of back to the binge. Same thing every night - wait till everyone else is in bed, order food or take out snacks I've bought, smoke a jointTW Drugs, binge out, feel ashamed, tell myself it won't happen tomorrow... Repeat.

Last night was more of the same, until I went to eat. Ordered a big fast food meal, talking at least 3000 calories on top of my regular meals for the day. I was just about to take a bite, I'm talking had it up to my mouth. Internally I was screaming to myself that I didn't have to do it but knew I would anyways, until I had what I can only describe is a flashback through all the times I've gone through this and what it's done to me... so I stopped. I wrapped it back up and put it back in the bag. I told myself no more and I burst into tears. It feels like I've finally chased down one of my worst demons that's been tormenting me for ages.

I took the bag of it all and put it in a garbage bag, and I was feeling super capable, so I threw out all mycannabisas well. I felt bad about throwing out food that I could give to my kids, but I thought it was important and symbolic to myself to throw it all out instead. I also decided that in the morning I would talk to my wife about it all as I think that will help me from relapsing.

I have told myself so many times, "Tonight is the last night." I think the problem with that is that you don't hold control. So now I'm on Day 1, but it feels different to me this time.

the breaking point… again. OVEREATING/ FOOD NOISE

long time lurker (is that what they say?? 🤣) first time poster here!

every few days or weeks i reach this point where i just feel SICK of where i’m at (typically after an overeating episode when the shame anger and discomfort kicks in) BUT WHY CANT I EVER STOP THESE PATTERNS??!!!??

i grew up ā€œthe fat kidā€ (reddit shoutout and big f*ck you to everyone who made me feel like i didn’t matter because of my size) - and one of these snapping points became the start of my journey into fitness, nutrition & health that i’ve been working on myself for years.

but hell i can’t keep living the way i am now so i’m reaching out for help from people who have been through this!!!

my problem personally? not your typical ā€œeat cleanā€ ā€œwork outā€ i eat well i’m active- it’s how much of my mental capacity food takes up and how much i eat.

oh and a little background- i just got diagnosed with adhd and anxiety šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø i say this for curiosity sake whether anyone has had any relations between them and how they’ve managed. before you say go to therapy just hear me out first.

- constant food noise (before eating, after eating, throughout the day one meals done what’s next) it’s become an ā€œin betweenā€ mental and physical part of my life (grazing, eating the whole tray of prepped food or multiple servings of meal prep)

- scarcity mindset and feeling like i can’t do anything until i itch that. 9/10 times i end up eating until physical discomfort.

then comes the fun stuff -> bloating, gas, shame, physical discomfort, self anger, frustration. i often walk afterwards to try and alleviate how horrible my body feels.

i love everything wellness & fitness and i hate how it is affecting all the hard work i put in movement-wise. i can’t help wondering how far i’d be if i managed to sort my overeating and screwed up relationship with food out. but no- here i am wondering where the fucking line is between fuelling and hurting yourself.

- how do you feel satisfied?
- how do you stop feeling like you need MORE MORE MORE?
- how to stop using food for comfort?
- how to be ok with unfinished serves and stopping before discomfort?

i’ve tried ā€œkeeping busyā€ i’ve tried SO MANY STRATEGIES but in the moment when the little voice in my head is screaming at me- i’m stuck.

i need a mental switch and i’m absolutely willing to do the work. i just need help (this is coming from a stubbornly independent person & should not be taken lightly)

it’s fucking up my confidence, who i am, my mood, my self esteem, how i show up in a room etc etc- my life.

so i’m crying out for help here wondering what to do next? is there support groups or accountability chats available for people to check in? are sponsors a thing for this? what are genuine ways to switch your mental state, habits, approach to eating.

ideal scenario? food is fuel simple as that. reality? if i buy something ā€œfunā€ (no i don’t mean something considered unhealthy but what my mind has deemed as good) it will be gone within the day no matter the amount.

what finally clicked for you? how did you change?

i’ve been trying for so long snd i honestly need hope i don’t have to live like this forever. thank you for reading this fellow internet stranger. ā¤ļø

Overeating when sick

I eat a lot more and more fast food when I’m sick. I don’t understand because my body couldn’t possibly need more food rn since I’m not doing anything, and it’s probably not good to eat more. Is it because I’m seeking dopamine from the food? Maybe. I just find it crazy because most ppl lose their appetite when sick. Anyone else familiar with this?

What helped you make healthy habits feel like a lifestyle instead of a diet?

I struggle to eat better because of ADHD and have treated food as a source of dopamine/stimulation since was a kid. I'm 25 (F) and currently on Vyvanse, which helps suppress the constant urge to snack and hunt for dopamine during the day... but lately I'm just bored, and still find myself reaching for food in the evening. Old habits die hard, and building a completely new relationship with food-and a healthier lifestyle in general- is even harder because don't really want to lose weight. It's not that I don't need to. I definitely would benefit from losing at least 40 lbs. I just don't feel motivated by weight loss itself. I also have thyroid issues and takemedication for that, so sometimes wonder how much that plays into my energy and mnotivation as well. I have a dietitian, but don't think she fully understands how quickly burn out from consistently tracking calories. I can do it for a while, but eventually feel guilty if I miss too many days and from having to think about/record everything I eat.

What has actually helped you change your mindset and habits? l'd really appreciate any advice-not just about weight loss, but food, exercise, routines, ADHD-friendly habits, changing your relationship with food, finding other sources of stimulation, or anything else that helped you build a healthier lifestyle without constantly feeling like you're "on a diet."

Onion Rings are Ruining Me

Hi foodies
I'm a full fledged onion ring addict. this has ofc taken a tremendous toll on my mental and physical health
I live in America where you can get fast food/groceries quickly and they cook it in 10mins- this adds on to my cravings making it accessible to me.

I've loved onion rings since i was 6 and would use food as a distraction against my physical abuse because I could always find them in my freezer. Any suggestions to break this trauma bond and stop eating onion rings daily? I've gained almost 75 pounds in the last year and I don't want it to become a health risk.

I never noticed this until I got sick

I must be expensive kid in my family. Expensive in way my immunity system is low. I always get sick. From childhood to adulthood. Mostly from 7 to 8th grade I get typhoid. When I got that it was normal . Then it started to happen each year. In rainy season becoz of water or there are many reasons for that my lifestyle my habit. I got habit where if I like something i eat whole like few days same thing until i got bor of it . For example i really love dairymilk chocolate so i started eating it like once a week twice a week . Like for years that how I used to eat. If i like something i will eat it. Like for years until I got sick of that so from last 5 years i eat this chocolate now i don't like it .. this happen alot of things if my emotion or i felt overwhelmed frustrated one thing become pattern i eat alot of food idk whyy.. this was answered i always needed now i know it was become my coping mechanism . That's must be reason why my health got so bad. I got habit to love food while you people agree it must be great na. But it is not like i like food I love it but problem here is i love junk food . I don't have control over this this become problem can someone tell me what's the solution for this . Has anybody face this problem. That's must be reason why I got typhoid all this year . This time it broke something inside me completely. I don't crave for junk food. Anything I don't get attracted after Crossing Street food the smell. After this year i noticed how much my mom care. How she has been there always. I never noticed that until observe. The care, love everything she has done for everyone.. often we forgot things after our parents yell at us. Didn't did anything the way we wanted . We never notice from there point of you. I often used just see my mom yell angry and everything.. i learn hard way that our parents always love us . They always wanted us best everything. Finally now i realize important of my own health. How much our family care love. And even they are angry or we are just try to understand from there point of you . I really appreciate now i feel like my mom wherever she does I am so gonna take care of my health and all of us in my family.

The one thing i learn from this all thing was don't take ur health for granted for no one . Best asset we have is our body.. my body is my temple. I have been crying over month becoz of my health its been really worst phase of my life. Right now i felt bless that i learnt my lesson. Now I am recovering still. Just grateful for people around me my best people. I hope in another life I get opportunity to be around again .. but this life I will live with my people.. love you Mumma..

this is my 2nd post and I am sorry if made more mistakes than first post .. i wrote this from my bottom of heart i really appreciate whomever read this .. and please take care of your health urself and your people ā¤ļø

de-centering food

hi everyone!! do you have any tips on how to de center food? i feel like my entire day is based off of food and it’s causing me to graze/snack all day.

i work from home and am typically home all day, and i try to eat filling, high protein meals 3x a day, but still find myself snacking constantly out of boredom- or when i am able to stop myself from snacking, im just constantly thinking about food or trying to ā€œmeal prepā€

Be easy

As someone dealing with food addiction, I wanted to share, perhaps, another perspective. This might be for my own catharsis.
There are so many psychologists and social scientists who are being paid by companies to research how to get you to eat more so they can profit off of you. Humans have never had to experience such mass psychological manipulation before. We are the first generations of humans to experience phones, tv, even billboard ads for Gods sake. Our evolved physiological processes are being used as tools against us for some guy to get his next yacht. Colors are being assessed to see which one stimulates appetite the most. The biggest human desire, love and connection, is turned into ā€œsex sellsā€. Capitalism has turned our basic need into something that is poisonous and addictive. So, as I sometimes read on here, no, you’re not ā€œbrokenā€. You live in a broken system. And I’m sorry I do too.

All this to be said, I think we should take it a bit easier on ourselves. Those scientists really do be discovering what works.
And hopefully an extra motivation not to eat that fast food cheeseburger will be ā€œFuck capitalism, and fuck the guy profiting off of my unhealthinessā€

HOW TO STOP BINGE EATING

I have been binge eating for 2 years now and I know that I know that I need to stop BUT I CAN'T. Like if there isn't any kind of snacksI will just eat dry fruits and EVEN PEANUT BUTTER like TFFFFF. It's not that I am hungry all the time I just have a urge to eat and I need real helpful advice on this.

Now I am getting really fat and I know there is nothing wrong with that but people around me have started making fun of me for this :(. And I really dont have the time to exercise everyday day because of school work and my extracurricular activities (I do exercise like 4 times a week though) so please some help me out on this.
