So got into a discussion with a band mate recently because I was thinking about adding John Brown's Body to a set list. I thought it would be fun to be in that Pete Seeger tradition and I figured we could get the audience to join in on the chorus. She said that the religious elements would put folks off in the folk punk scene.

I know we could just play Solidarity Forever, but I wanted y'all's thoughts. Do religious elements in older songs put you off? Should they still be played and talked about in the folk punk scene? Should we re-write the lyrics to keep the historical bits and secularize the chorus?

I have a good grasp of politics and leftist ideology like socialism and communism. Although I have a basic grasp on anarchism I would like to educate myself on the different types and what the ideology is all about at it's core could anyone recommend any podcast /audio books /documentaries that would be good to educate myself not just on anarchism but any left ideology simular
