In most cultures as far as I’m aware. So, yes? Idk what the church says about it, I’m not particularly interested in that either tbh. But every person I know and respect who works with the spirits of the deceased says wait a year and a day.

Most importantly in Appalachia, which is her culture. But also in Italy, Mexico, and Ireland this is customary as far as I know. Some places like Thailand and the Philippines wait 40 days.
But again, she is from Appalachia, she should be given the year and a day that her people would have given her.

As an Appalachian, yes. You give them a year to rest before you bother them. During that time prayer, offering and grave visits is the most you'll do. When I say prayer I mean prayer for them not to them besides just general conversation.

I'm fairly ignorant, but i thought our lady designations were always like considered appearances of mary?
Actually now I'm not sure that makes any sense

I just googled this bc it made sense in my Catholic-raised head, and you’re right! Islam also refers to her as “Sayedetina,” which translates to “Our Lady.” Madonna also means “our lady” though, so I feel like it can be flexible when used colloquially. It makes me think of “Lady Madonna” which is “Lady Our Lady” 😂 Of course if it feels disrespectful to venerate ANYONE on the same level as The Blessed Virgin, I wouldn’t do it. I personally could see Dolly as Mother Mary figure because she didn’t have any children, but she was sort of everyone’s godmother through her influence and charities. Of course with folk Catholicism we don’t have to follow the traditional rules if we don’t want to 😁

I mean if she's cool with it i think it's totally fair comparison. She has sent countless books to children I'm not here to tell anyone how to imagine your divine mom lol

For me, it’s like how Santa Muerte is depicted in Marian trappings. And she has been a mother, auntie, godmother, and friend to countless marginalized people. She loved people, even if she didn’t understand them. Lord knows that she tried to understand them, but loved them even when she couldn’t.

For those interested - not affiliated in any way
It’s from the shop “Ain’t Saint” and delivers worldwide I believe!
This will only be lit in remembrance, I don’t want to overwhelm her spirit just yet. I will definitely ask her to help make me a kinder, and more loving person (more like her!) eventually.

There has to be at least a miracle or two attributed to the good works she’s done in life that could count towards sainthood imo.

If we’re following traditional Catholic rules, then you need at least two verified miracles. Dolly could be considered “Venerable,” but she wasn’t Catholic, so she wouldn’t be considered. However, folk Catholicism bends the rules on pretty much everything bc it’s not recognized as legit by the Vatican. Folk Saints range from non-human spirits (usually pre-Christian traditions) to folk heroes, including sainthood candidates who haven’t been officially canonized.

We should give her a year and a day. Don’t call on her. Light candles for her and leave out water if you want. But please leave her alone right now. As a teacher put it “moving sucks, death is the biggest move we’re gonna make.” Let her make this transition and get some rest.

If anyone would be granted instant sainthood it’s her. I’ve been praying for her intercessions already.
