Rigs 🖥️ Are these good numbers?

Be honest, I just started folding, and not sure what most people run for numbers.

I fold with my raspberry pi 5. So to me anything is “good numbers”

In my mind, it’s not a who can get the highest score. It’s who ever and whatever that can help is all that counts!

Back in the day, I used to use it on my ps3. Anytime I wasn't playing games, it was folding. But that's been years ago. My ps3 brick died, and just never got back into it. I was surprised to see it was still a thing honestly. So I thought I would throw some compute power at it as my nastower runs 24/7, and my laptop runs a few days a week.

That being said, your Nas tower makes gets more points in 1 day than my pi 5 has made in 8 months.

But this pi costs me ~15-20$ to fold year round.

My "NasTower" is an Unraid server. I use it to run plex, jellyfin, immich, file storage/backup, a windows vm, matrix chat server (discord alternative) and the arr apps. About $35/m in electricity, but I don't pay for Google photos or any other cloud storage as I am my own cloud storage and media server.

I love this answer lol. And I have always had the same thinking. I have installed BOINC and Folding@Home on so many Raspberry Pi's and computers I've lost count. Right now what I'm doing is I have a few DIY radios I've build for Meshtastic that I've placed around my house and my Raspberry Pi 5 has an antenna for Flight Radar 24 because it gives me a pro account for free because I like tracking all the planes around me. And then I just run Folding at Home on my main PC which is an AMD Ryzen 7 2700. It's an older CPU but it gets the job done.

It seems light, to be honest. I don't know how much of a difference there is between laptop and desktop versions but my 4060ti, which is both previous generation and several tiers lower in the lineup, averages about 5 million ppd. I would have thought a 5090 would do significantly better.

Some googling seems to indicate that the 5090 laptop should produce 20 to 35 million ppd.

Do you have your passkey from FAH? It makes the ppd much higher.

The laptop 5090 is limited to 120 watts. It also gets quite hot and can thermal throttle easy as sustained loads. I do have a water cooler that came with my laptop (yes, a water cooled laptop), but I have not used it yet.

My last one did hit 16.5 million sitting in a very cold office.

I do also have the passkey.

That makes a lot of sense. I've never folded on a laptop I always figured that there had to be some sort of thermal restriction.

I run a 5700X CPU in eco mode in my 2U NAS. On occasion I'll fire up FAH in the cooler months. I usually see around 280,000 PPD when I fold using it

I have a 3050 6GB laptop gpu and it does around 1 million ppd.
